If you’re reading this – there’s probably a few things you want to know right away. Like, how successful are we at helping to make babies? Or, how do we stack up when compared with the national average for IVF treatment? Or even, how many times in my life will I need to listen to Baby Shark?

And we’re here to say: we have answers to two of those questions. The latest independent data shows our success rates are above the national average across the board. With Genea, you’ll have a consistently greater chance of having a baby – regardless of age or previous experience with IVF. Check out the information overleaf to see for yourself.

IVF SUCCESS RATES

MEASURE 1

Births per complete egg retrieval cycle (including the later transfer of resulting embryos).

MEASURE 2

Births per complete egg retrieval cycle (including the later transfer of resulting embryos) for women having their first ever egg retrieval.

This measure shows the chance of a live birth from fresh and frozen embryo transfer procedures resulting from each complete egg retrieval cycle for women having their first ever egg retrieval in one year, at all Genea Clinics. Starting cohort year (2017): Cycles initiated in 2017 calendar year where an ART naïve woman’s first -ever egg retrieval procedure took place. Follow-up period (2017-2018): Subsequent embryo transfers performed in 2017 and 2018 resulting from the ART naïve woman’s first-ever egg retrieval procedure in 2017 and 2018. Age is female age at time the cycle was initiated (based on cycle date). Includes autologous cycles only (where a woman intended to, or used her own eggs).

MEASURE 3

Births per individual treatment attempt.

MEASURE 4

Births per embryo that is transferred.

This measure shows the chance of a live birth from each individual fresh or frozen embryo that was transferred in one year at all Genea Clinics. Cycles initiated in the most recent calendar year where live birth data is nationally reported (2018). Age is female age at time the cycle was initiated (based on cycle date). Often, when a doctor mentions ‘assisted conception’ people hear ‘IVF’ – but that’s not the be-all and end-all of baby-making science. In fact, half of the people we help to grow their family don’t require IVF at all.

For example, sometimes your timing can be a little bit out of step (like trying to breakdance to a waltz).

That’s because we’ve got a team of super-smart specialists (more than 45 of them, to be specific) who are on hand to create a fertility plan tailored to your needs.

ON TOP OF THAT WE ALSO OFFER:

• Ovulation induction (to give your ovaries a boost in their egg-

making abilities) • IUI (intrauterine insemination, to help sperm get exactly where

they need to go)

• IVF (in vitro fertilisation) + ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection,

often used as treatment for male infertility)

• Genetic testing such as Preimplantation Genetic Screening or Diagnosis (PGS/PGD) and non invasive prenatal screening (NIPS)

• Egg and sperm donor programs

• Egg freezing

Oh, and if you’re in Sydney you can always pop into our CBD clinic for a Bulk-Billed Fertility Assessment** to help work out the best treatment options for you.

* No out-of-pocket for Medicare eligible patients when blood tests are conducted at a Genea monitoring centre in Australia. Not applicable at Genea Hollywood Fertility in Perth.** No-out-of-pocket initial consultation available for Medicare eligible patients at our Sydney CBD clinic.

THETHE ABCABCssOFOF IVFIVFIf you do end up needing IVF to meet your bub, you’re in safe hands.

Here’s a little look into the process of IVF you might undertake at Genea, plus a peek into the lab and the brilliant brains that make it so special.

That’s because we have invested 10% of our revenue back into research & development over the years. Having the best tech, coupled with the best team, gives you the greatest chance at getting pregnant.

We don’t want to toot our own horn, but we only use the best and most advanced IVF technology available, a lot of which we developed ourselves.

Between Day 3 to 5 is when genetic control switches from the female’s genome to shared control between the female and male. It’s also when problems can occur, so waiting until Day 5 gives us the best baby-making odds. We can achieve this thanks to our Geri® continuous culture system.

We were the first clinic in Australia to introduce routine Day 5 embryo transfers, which is a big deal because this is a serious milestone in an embryo’s development.

Growing embryos in the lab to Day 5 (when the fertilised egg is known as a ‘blastocyst’) gives us the clearest picture of which ones are most likely to lead to a successful pregnancy.

One of the many things that makes Genea different to other fertility clinics is the way we approach culturing and transferring embryos.

‘Culture media’, by the way, is the solution that nurtures your embryo and helps it to grow and develop outside your body.

And if you hear us talking about a ‘continuous culture system’, we’re referring to how closely the lab can mimic what happens in the human body after an egg is fertilised. During IVF, the 5 to 6 days after fertilisation are crucial for the embryo’s development. A continuous culture system nurtures them in the best possible environment and plays a big part in your chances of making a baby.

CARING FOR YOUR EMBRYOS

They enable us to mimic the undisturbed natural environment of a woman’s body, which has delivered a 12.2% increase in the number of live births when compared to the traditional incubator and culture medium system^.

Like all great teams in history – Batman and Robin, Bey and Jay, cheese and Vegemite – Genea’s Geri® culture media and our Geri® incubation system produce the best results when they work together.

^ compared to the MINC incubator and Gems sequential media. Study performed in Genea’s Canberra, Wollongong, Liverpool, North West, RPA and Kent St laboratories, 2015-2019. The Geri incubation system was used in all Genea clinics by 2018. Published in a peer reviewed journal Fertility and Sterility and presented at the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) congress in 2020, official reference being: Peura T, Murray A, Hesketh N, Dalati S, Bowman M, McArthur S (2020): Is the biggest impact on clinical IVF outcomes obtained by implementation of continuous media, time-lapse incubator or both? MEET GERI®

Geri® is our state-of-the-art incubator. It houses your embryos in a dedicated chamber with our Geri® culture media for true continuous culture. Thanks to time-lapse technology, embryologists can select the best embryo for transfer or freeze without opening a chamber during the development phase. And this world-leading IVF tech is only available in Australia at Genea clinics – at no extra cost.

* Based on responses to Grow patient survey between May-October 2017 (91 patients)

GROW BY GENEA™ APP

We help you be there from day dot – so you’re more connected to the IVF process than with any other clinic.

Grow by Genea™ gives you round-the-clock access to photos and videos of your embryos – wherever and whenever you want it. 94% of the people who’ve used the app said it improved their IVF experience*.

Embryos are precious, and it’s common for people who are undertaking IVF to produce more than one.

When this happens, we freeze the remainder so you have the best chance of success within the least amount of stimulated cycles (this process is called ‘vitrification’). Plus, if you decide later on you want a sibling for bub, you’ve got a head start. Now, here’s a stat we love:

ICE, ICE, BABY

58% of our patients who’ve achieved a live birth and returned for a frozen transfer* have had a second child from their initial IVF cycle. We think those are pretty good odds. 58%

ENTER, GAVI®

Gavi® is another one of the state-of-the-art technologies we’re proud of. In fact, it’s the only machine of its kind. Gavi® automates and standardises key parts of the vitrification process to consistently preserve eggs and embryos at minus 196 degrees. After freezing, your embryos will hang out in their own Gavi® Pod until you need them.

* 1st Stim Cycle between 01 Jan 2012 – 31 Dec 2013 (3573 patients). Following subsequent Cryos through to 31 Dec 2015. Autologous patients only (no donor oocytes or surrogates). Sites from Kent St, Liverpool, Canberra, Bella Vista, Illawarra. Excludes oocyte vitrification patients.

If you’ve got a history of genetic issues in your family, have experienced recurrent miscarriage or are trying for a baby later in your life, it’s understandable that you might find the idea of IVF a little daunting. We’ve got the science – and the support – to put your mind at ease and give you the best possible chance of having a healthy bub.

One of the ways we do this is with advanced genetic testing. We perform PGS (pre-implantation genetic screening) and PGD (pre-implantation genetic diagnosis) on Day 5. While some other clinics do so on Day 3, Day 5 biopsies have been clinically shown to raise the odds of both implantation and live birth rates.

PUT YOUR MIND AT EASE WITH GENESURE®

Our GeneSure® PGS doubles the chance of a live birth for every embryo transfer and halves the miscarriage rate for women over 38 years**. You can bet we’re proud of that.

And when it comes to PGD, Genea has created tests for over 350 genetic conditions, and counting! In fact we can personalise a test for any single gene disorder.

** Compared to standard IVF for women 38 years and over where the embryos are not tested for chromosome abnormalities

MONEYMONEYMATTERSMATTERS

The cost of treatment is probably something that’s at the front of your mind. So, let’s chat money for a moment. It can be difficult to estimate the total cost of treatment because everyone’s treatment plan is personalised to ensure the best chance of having a baby.

Our ‘In This Together’ offer was created to help bring you some certainty. If you undertake three IVF cycles with Genea and haven’t had a baby, we’ll give you two more cycles at no out-of-pocket cost*. Yep, we’ve got you.

For the full details of our cycle fee offer, visit: genea.com.au/costs/in-this-together

* Terms and conditions and eligibility criteria apply. No out-of-pocket applies to the cycle. Some exclusions apply such as day surgery, anaesthetist, PGS/PGD costs.

Let’s be real for a moment: whatever your reason for undertaking IVF treatment, the journey is likely to have some tough moments. At times, feeling emotionally overwhelmed is to be expected – and when that happens, we’re going to be there.

YOUR EMOTIONAL SUPPORT NETWORK

Still, there are things that only someone who’s been though the process of assisted conception will understand. That’s why – on top of paring you with a counsellor – we run programs that bring together people in similar stages of their fertility journeys. These sessions are designed to create a safe space and give you a chance to share any emotions you may experience with people who understand.

One way we support you is with a tight-knit team of staff – from doctors to nurses, scientists, support staff and counsellors – who are up to speed with your specific treatment. You’ll have someone on hand to help no matter the issue, whether you need to chat with an embryologist or need to know the best place to park your car.
