Launch the VNXe simulator installation by double-clicking on its shortcut:
Follow the instructions displayed by the installation wizard
Once the installation is complete press the “Done” button
Open the folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\EMC VNXe Demo
Right click on the index.html file
Choose Open with > Internet Explorer

1 In this lab you will explore the Unisphere interface and storage infrastructure from the
viewpoint of the storage array.
Open the Dashboard of the EMC Unisphere System.
Navigate the Dashboard and discover the options you can access from this screen.
2 It is easy to customize the Dashboard to show you the most important information that
you use each day. Perform these customization steps:
Select and hold onto the title bar of the System Information window and move it to the
top right position.
Release the mouse button.
3 Drop down the Customize list. The widgets will appear at the top of the page.
Select the LUNs widget and drag it to the top left position.
Release the mouse button.
Notice how the screen arranges itself for the best fit. You can rearrange the positions as
in the previous step.

4 Next, navigate to System > Storage Resource Health.
You can see the storage resources, LUNs, LUN Groups, Datastores and File systems.
Explore this window and its tabs. Note the types of information and reports you can
view.

Select the MultiTier Storage Pool
Select the Details button on the bottom of the page.
You can see the Utilization, FAST VP, Disks, Settings and Pool History View. Explore this
window and its tabs. Note the types of information and reports you can view.
Take note of the configuration changes you can make to the system and components
through this menu choice.
7 Alter the Alert Threshold to allow for more alerts to be generated during these labs. In
the data center you will select the correct level of alerting based on the needs of the
business.
Select the Utilization tab.
Alter the Alert Threshold to 50%
Select the Apply button to save the changes
Monitor the Alerts in the Status Bar during the rest of these labs for changes.

1 From the Dashboard of the EMC Unisphere System.
Choose Create a LUN or LUN group option
2 This opens the LUN Group or LUN Wizard.
The difference between a LUN Group and a LUN is that a LUN Group maintains a
consistent state across all of the LUNs in the group. For example if you applied a
SnapShot to a LUN Group, all of the LUNs in that group will be snapped at the same
point in time. For this exercise we will create a LUN Group.
Select Create a LUN group
Enter a Group Name for the LUN Group and set a Description.

3 Now configure the LUNs in the LUN Group
We will create 10 total LUNs in this group with 2 different size configurations.
For the first set of LUNs, set the LUN Size to 100 GB
Set this as a Thin device.
Set the Add field for 5 LUNs and select Add
You should see 5 LUNs added to the pool configured as you set them.
4 Now add the second set of LUNs to the Group
For the first set of LUNs, set the LUN Size to 10 GB
Set this as a Thin device.
Set the Add field for 5 LUNs and select Add
You should see additional 5 LUNs added to the pool configured as you set them.
Click the Next button after verifying the configuration of the LUNs.

5 In this step you have the opportunity to set protection for the LUN Group. You will add
protection in a later lab so select Do not configure a snapshot schedule.
After choosing the Snapshot schedule, select the Next button.
6 Next, configure the host connectivity. You saw earlier that there are several Hosts
connected to this array using multiple protocols.
Filter for Protocols and select FC
You should only see the 10.244.214.222 host in the list.
You have four choices in Access.
• No Access – The host is denied all access to the LUN Group
• LUN – The host is granted access to the LUN Group
• Snapshot – The host is granted access to the Snapshot
• LUN and Snapshot – The host is granted access to LUN Group and the Snapshot
Select LUN and then select the Next button.

7 Now you will verify the configuration order for this LUN Group.
The settings you have elected will be shown in the Summary screen.
Once you are sure the order is correct, select the Finish button.
8 The job will now be performed and all devices created. This may take a few minutes
depending on the number of LUNs and Snapshots you selected.
Once the job is complete, select the Close button to continue.

9 Now that the LUN Group has been created, look at the storage configuration.
Select Storage > LUNs to open the LUN view
Expand the LUN Group you just created.
Verify the configuration of the LUN Group matches the previous steps.
10 Select the LUN Group and select the Details button.
You can see the Capacity, Host Access, and other information about the LUN Group from
this window.
You also can view the new LUN Group from the Host perspective by selecting Hosts >
Hosts > 10.244.214.222 to see the individual LUNs along with their SCSI LUN ID. It is
possible to change the LUN ID from this window if the system or an application has a
specific requirement.
11 Your Block Device LUN Group is successfully created.

Choose Create a file system option
2 You will configure a file system for a Windows host.
Choose the type of file-level protocol for your common share. Possible options provided
by the VNXe system are:
• CIFS used mostly for Windows OS systems in order to organize the file-based
access
• NFS used mostly for Unix-like systems in order to organize the file-based access
Select the Windows shares (CIFS) option.
Select the Next button.

Enter a description of the share to help identify it later.

4 Select a suitable Storage Pool for your file system.
Set the Tiering Policy, size, and type of the share.

Select the Next button after setting the parameters.

5 Configure the share to be created and specify its Name and Description. The share will
serve as an interface of accessing the shared folder by different hosts.
Select the Next button to continue.
6 In this step you will have to configure the Snapshot protection that you would like to
apply to your share.
Select the option Select a snapshot schedule and leave the Default Protection in place.
After choosing the Snapshot setting, select the Next button.

7 Verify the job from the Summary screen
Once you are satisfied with the configuration, select the Finish button to start the job.
8 The job will now be performed and all devices created. This may take a few minutes
depending on the number of LUNs and Snapshots you selected.

World Wide Name (WWN) and other information for each port.
4 To read the WWN on the VNX you will see a number similar to this example:

The first 16 characters are the World Wide Node Name (WWNN) while the
second 16 characters are the World Wide Port Name (WWPN). The WWPN is the
name you will use for zoning on the Fibre Channel switch.
5 Enter the storage WWN data on the zoning worksheet for this lab on page 25.
6 Gather and document the World Wide names of the host initiator ports.
