North American Midstream Infrastructure Study

• Prepared for the INGAA Foundation by ICF• Continuation of a series of studies undertaken by the INGAA

Foundation since 2001• Estimates future midstream infrastructure requirements• Estimates CAPEX associated with infrastructure development• Considers impact of recent market trends on infrastructure

development• Projects economic impacts, including number of jobs, associated

with development

Key Findings –Significant Development Continues: 2018 - 2035

• 26,000 miles of new natural gas pipelines.• 41,000 miles required for total oil, gas, and NGL transport.• 180,000 miles of pipeline needed for all midstream functions (including

gathering).• 7 million Horsepower of Compression added for natural gas transport.• 17 million Horsepower of total compression and pumping added for all

midstream functions.• 19 Bcf per year of working natural gas storage added• Total midstream CAPEX of $791 billion.• Natural Gas pipeline CAPEX of $280 billion.• New infrastructure development in the U.S. and Canada will employ an average

of 725,000 people each year.

INGAA Foundation Flagship Report -• Role of Natural Gas as part of the future

energy portfolio• Changes in the pipeline and storage

infrastructure over the next 20-year period

• Analyze the projected increase in US renewable energy and battery storage and the role of natural gas as an enabler or balancing fuel

• Provide data to respond to assertions that a rapid transition to renewables will render infrastructure investments uneconomic

Completed Guidelines

• Basic personal protective equipment guidelines

• Pressure-testing guidelines

• Overhead utilities safety guidelines

• Trenching and excavation guidelines

• Natural gas pipeline crossing guidelines

• Safety Orientation Communication

• Traffic Control Plan• Vehicle Safety

Additional guidelines are under development

What are the guidelines? The Construction Safety Guidelines are consensus guidelines prepared by a multi-company cross-section of teams of experts from the INGAA Foundation. They are safety-guidance documents on many topics related to pipeline construction safety.

The guidelines, which are endorsed by the INGAA Foundation membership and others, emphasize enhancing consistent safety performance throughout the industry. They were developed with the notion of creating a level of consistency across the industry on all projects.

How can the guidelines help the pipeline industry?Adopting and using the Construction Safety Guidelines will promote clarity and consistency for workers and supervisors for all construction contractors and pipeline companies.

They seek to create universal guidelines and provide consistency for employee safety in the interstate pipeline construction industry
