Influence to basic urges is depleting

Possibly the strength of the impulse being inhibited may determine to what extent depletion affect individuals

Not the direction of control is important but rather the exercise of control for itself

Consequences• Loss of self-control

• Influence on stereotype based responses, but not the automatic component

• Depletion of Ego Strenght has also been found to affect smoking behavior, regulation of sexual urges and impulse spending.

• Depletion reduces individuals ability to inhibit urges

• Depletion can also cause a more focused view on a reward-relevant stimulus than a reward-irrelevant stimulus, and therefore increase individuals motivation.

• Lack of self-control by strengthening impulses, rather than undermining inhibition.
