Highlights of INIS Activities 2006/2007

5 new members joined INIS:

the total number of participating members to 141:

118 countries and

23 international organizations



The Bibliographic Database

• In the year 2006, a total of 122,412 records were added to the INIS Bibliographic Database. This represents an increase of 100 % over year 1999 (CAI started)

• It is the best annual result ever achieved by INIS during its entire history

• In 2007 (January – September) 93,214 records were added

Thesaurus

• Joint ETDE/INIS Thesaurus

• CAI Thesaurus Extension• Multilingual Thesaurus (Arabic-Chinese-English-French-

German-Russian-Spanish)

• Monolingual versions of the Thesaurus including full thesaurus hierarchy

• Interactive Multilingual Thesaurus with navigation capabilities including full thesaurus hierarchy



INIS Database on the Internet

• A new version of the INIS Database on the Internet under new operational environment with new enhanced Interface

• Online access to NCL full-text documents

• 354 universities, 475 free subscribers and 13 paid

• 3,445 individual registrations

• ~20,000 active users



INIS Database on CD-ROM

• Frequency of updates was changed from a quarterly to a monthly basis.

• The total number of subscriptions is 237 free and 74 paid.

• A new project of redesigning INIS Database on CD/DVD-ROM was initiated and will start in 2008.



INIS NCL Collection on CD-ROM

• The total number of CD-ROMs (1997 -2007)- 373

• The total number of subscriptions – 70 free and 7 paid



Partnerships

• The Agency continued its co-operative arrangement with the OECD/NEA Data Bank.

• In 2006, 726 packages out of a total of 5,577 were distributed to 32 non-OECD Member States that are IAEA Members

• The practical Agreement between IAEA and ICSTI (International Centre of Scientific and Technical Information) was signed in 2006.

• Information exchange, access to organizational information resources, organizing joint events



Cooperation with OSTI

• Special subset Nuclear Science Abstracts of the Energy Citation Database (ECD) was created and contains over 800,000 records (~500 with full-text)



Development and Innovation

• A new INIS Data Processing System• INIS Database on the Internet

Enhancement• A new INIS & NKM Web Site• Redesign of INIS DB on CD-ROM • Metadata Extracting/Editing System



Special Activities

• Digital Preservation• Continued digitizing the INIS NCL Collection with annual

rate ~1,000,000 pages.

• Co-operation with INIS National Centres

• Digitization of various documents available at IAEA

• Implementation of new efficient digital technologies

• INIS ILO Survey

• INIS Database Usage Analysis

• Federated Search System

• IAEA Nuclear Information Portal
