History
On Thursday, March 5th at 5:30 P.M. a record of 63 students were invited to the
cafeteria to paint ceiling tiles that would be displayed outside the front office. West Navarre
Intermediate School created a special activity referred to as the 26 Random Acts of Kindness.
The reward for completing all 26 acts, is creatively and colorfully designing a ceiling tile,
leaving your “fingerprint” at WNIS. The idea of this project is to slow down our busy lives
and take time to be nice, kind-hearted, learn to serve others as we continue developing into
phenomenal students and incredible citizens! It is a key part for the “whole child” to be nur-
tured at WNIS says our school leadership team.
Interviewing the Participants
We asked a few participants some questions about the 26 random acts of
kindness. Many are wondering if it is challenging to complete all 26 acts. One student, Ama-
ra Wynder, a 5th grade student from Mr. Duphiney’s class, replied, “YES, it was really chal-
lenging to figure out how to do them all...it was exciting though.” Another question we
asked was, how completing the acts make the students feel? “Good, because I felt like I was
making the world a better place,” said Kylie Long, a 3rd grade student from Mrs. Vack’s class.
As we asked more questions, participants said they planned to continue the acts because it
made them feel good about themselves, it was fun, and they can make people feel im-
portant. “Painting the ceiling tiles was fun, because my dad helped me with a family draw-
ing”, stated Jennifer Bartlett, a 5th grade student in Mrs. Rodman’s class, when talking
about her inspiration for the ceiling tile.
Let’s All Be Kind!
The word “kindness” has many different meanings, but the reason West Navarre
Intermediate School is doing this activity is to try to make us better and nicer students and to
have this school filled with the best kids in the county! We already have a school that is kind,
but we’re making it even better! Our beloved school does these activities not only for a re-
ward, but also to see all the effort we put into that paper! This activity also isn’t just to see
who rushes and finishes first, it’s about the time, effort, and responsibility to do as much as
possible. Don’t think of the 26 Random Acts of Kindness as a test, it’s just a fun task to help
students be kind and help our community. We’ve noticed all the time and effort children put
into this activity. We all did our best and our hardest! Everyone should be proud of what
they did! We’ve seen all of the work our wonderful students did and they had the courage to
do it. Maybe next year we can hit 100 students.

...One Person at a Time
Fidelis means faithful, loyal, true...trustworthy or de-
pendable. To me, Fidelis is like the definition of a truly
great friend. They are rare to find because this is
someone who knows you best in all your faults and
shortcomings, yet loves you most and is always there
to pick you up, encourage and build you up --
and help you to have the faith to persevere through
life's biggest challenges and tragedies. This type of
truly loyal friend also isn't afraid to kindly tell you
when you are way off track because their thoughts
and actions are in your best interest in the long run.
Stay tuned to the point board to see who wins the ultimate reward… the
end of year party!
Creativity take
Courage!!!!!!!!!!
Diabetes is a disease where a person has elevated levels of sugar in the blood. A
lot comes with the disease like special diet and daily medical care. As you know
one of WNIS’s very own students, Timothy Little has type 1 diabetes, and although
this seems like something super damaging, diabetes is actually a very manageable
disease. Inkstand decided to check in with Timothy to get a personal look at dia-
betes, and discuss a specific field trip in his honor. Inkstand interviewed a teacher
at our school, Mrs. Agrawal, and we asked about a community field trip that was
planned on Saturday, May 2nd 2015 and she told us that the trip is in Pensacola
walk to raise money and awareness for Juvenile Diabetes. During that time, we
also interviewed our very own principal, Mr. Crissey, and he answered a few
questions for us. When asked how they came up with the walk, he explained that
finding good Community rewards is very difficult, so he is always thinking about
and looking for new ideas . Luckily, Timothy’s mom e-mailed Mr. Crissey wonder-
ing if he was willing to support Timothy’s diabetes by fundraising , so he said yes,
and it occurred to him while responding to her, that with a little bit of effort and a
whole lot of courage this would become the last reward trip of the year. Then he
arranged a hat day and a walk as a Community on May 2nd.” Our WNIS student,
Timothy Little, has some emotions toward his diabetes that some of us did not
know about, so Timothy shared some of them with us. Timothy said he feels an-
gry, scared, and upset about his issues. We had asked Timothy why feeling these
emotions is good for dealing with this disease and he said “it helps me expect the
unexpected “during the process. He also added that his friends and family do sup-
port him through his “tasks “and not only does Timothy want others to know that
living with diabetes is hard, but he feels safe with his peers supporting him. It
might not seem like it but, Timothy feels embarrassed about our school sup-
porting him, but at the same time he feels happy that our school cares about him.
Dealing with diabetes takes COURAGE , but with our doctors, and scientists
creating new technology we can work to produce better, stronger medicines to
combat this disease.

Spring at WNIS can only mean one thing: Kickball! With testing almost over, the sandlot and track have been busy these days with teams getting ready for their grade level kickball tourna-ments Students love to have a chance to leave the classroom for some teamwork on the field. Emma Hartman and some other 5th graders say they look forward to the tournament all year. Alex Woodall, 5th grader, said, “The time we play kickball is a great time to get to know each other better.”
Nothing ruins the fun quicker than poor sportsmanship. Sports-manship comes first in this tournament. Remember the tourna-ment is just for fun. Leave the bragging and pouting at home.
If you follow these rules, the tournament should be easy as pie.

is more of a mental sport
then a physical sport. A
wrestling match is easy if
you think about your

Marvel and Fantastic Four you may like both or prefer one other the other. But I asked the expert
my dad for answers.
Marvel
Marvel’s genera is mostly upsetting and has some comedy put into it. As one of the main prop that
are used mostly is their base also known as a flying ship. There are superheroes, but some of them
are human. But as a warning there is some strong language so I would skip those parts. Marvel has
a lot of mind blowing features like the movie looks like it’s in real life so check it out.
Fantastic Four
Ever heard of a human who could stretch super long distends or turn invisible or be made out of
rock, or even be made out of fire! Well those people are in this movie and this movie is called
Fantastic Four. This movie is somehow dramatic and has some puns. There sometimes is some
gore involved but don’t worry its fake. The setting is also in real life they went to the places and
shoot the film for the movie. But I won’t spoil it so go ahead and watch it!
now let’s talk about some cloth-
ing. Gladiator sandals are all
the rage this summer and they
come in different colors and
styles… some short and some
that tie all the way up to your
knees. But the best fashion find
was EMOJI sweatpants! I think
Hey, girls do you want to know
the 2015 summer fashion
trends? Let me get started on
telling you about them. If you
are really into doing your nails
then you will really enjoy this.
The nail colors for this summer
are coral, periwinkle, and last
but not least bright yellow. Ok,
the bright yellow nail
polish with go with these
perfectly!
Haven’t got any exciting plans for this Summer? Here are a few fun and interesting hobbies for
you to try out so you can avoid the boredom blahs!
1. Learn to play an instrument (many kids in the school play either the piano, guitar, or violin, so try out one of these
top picks).
2. Read some classic literature (I personally recommend the Navarre Public Library, as they have a great classics
selection).
3. Photography (there are many different styles of photography, and many different cameras to use; some are pricy,
some cheap).
4. Learn a few new languages (the most common are Spanish or Sign Language).
5. Do some writing, or start a Summer journal (you can find some cheap blank composition books and pencils and
pens at Walmart or CVS).
6. Fishing (Grab some friends, and a fishing rod, and head to Navarre Pier).
7. Make your own SLIME! That ooey gooey stuff that is selling out in the school store, well now you can make your
own. http://sciencebob.com/making-slime-method-1/

Middle School Scares We talked to the fifth graders at WNIS about their fears of
going to middle school next year. There are two things that
are weighing on the minds of our 5th graders right now.
Most are scared about 8th graders and bullies. It is tough to
be at the bottom of the food chain. Others seemed to be
worried about being late or tardy to class. Lastly, the fifth
graders don’t like leaving behind wonderful teachers and
good friends. So, If you have really good friend at WNIS, try
getting their email or phone number so you can keep in
touch this summer. Middle school may seem scary at first,
just know that everyone is feeling the same way as you.
There are over 4,700 types of frogs in the world! 90 species in
the United States alone. Some frogs you can’t touch because
they are so dangerous like Fire-Bellied frogs. These frogs
are toxic and have sharp warts. Others just have weird
habits such as the Darwins frog. The female lays the eggs
and the male puts the eggs in his
throat pouch, where the tadpoles
grow. Then the male spits them
out! Then some are unique by size
alone. The Pae- dophrye Amauensis
frog is so small, it can fit on a dime.
These frogs don’t have it as bad as the Leopard frog. These
frogs can be found in many fifth grade classrooms come
springtime. With their pattern of green and black dots, these
are the favored frog of choice for dissecting! So, let’s just say
you really get to know these frogs inside and out! With much
respect, we say farewell to the Leopard Frogs of the 2015
class.
Farewell Frogs by Ainsley Gleason and Sam Fulton
Middle School Joys Middle School is an exciting time as well. For example, some
students polled are exited about being able to sit were ever they
want for lunch. Ah… freedom! Likewise, changing classes and
having things like Chorus and Band to choose from make school
more interesting. The last thing they were looking forward to is
meeting new teachers and friends to give them new experiences.
So use this time of change and the tools you learned here at
WNIS to grow as a person and be the best You - you can be in
Middle School!

Do you know what Scratch is? It’s a website. What kind of
website you ask? A website where you can create your own
stories, animations, games, art, and more! Let’s get more into
it… In Scratch, you can program your own projects and share
them to the Scratch community! You can also remix other
people’s projects and add your own ideas. When it’s your first
time using Scratch, It can be a little hard figuring out what to
do. And if that happens, you can go to the Scratch homepage
and type in the search bar at the top, “how to make a project”
or you can search it on YouTube. Once you share a project, it
is automatically open to the Scratch community and anybody
can remix it. If you don’t want to share a project but want it private to yourself, you can still
save it and look at it whenever you want by clicking the “My Stuff” button next to your pro-
file picture. Scratch can also have fun and unique things! You can join contests, raffles, and
role plays! But of course, you’ll have to follow the rules of whoever made the contest, raffle,
or role play. Scratch is a great place to share your ideas and to be creative! If you join
Scratch, you’ll love it! When I joined Scratch, I couldn’t get off of it! You’ll meet new and nice
people! Your imagination can be made by using this wonderful website. The possibilities are
endless.

Let it Go by Catie Staudt
Who’s terrified? People can be scared about many things including the up-
coming testing. Well, according to what FROZEN says “Let it Go”… let your
nerves go. If you don’t know how to do that I have some tips for you. If you
are really nervous you should either take a minute to take some deep
breathes and slowly deflate or you can count to ten over and over again.
“Pour out your worries like a gallon of milk.” You should release your stress
by pouring it out all your worries onto someone you trust. “Sail your ship with
positivity.” One last thing you can do is think about your worries in a positive
way. For example if you don’t think you’ll get something right, just work with
what you know by heart. If all else fails say “I think I can,” “I think I can.” Or
just think about it in your head. I hope that all these ways work out for you.

What better way to celebrate Earth Day than to think of ways to help our beautiful planet? These are 5 kid-friendly ways to help the earth.
1. Plant a tree. If there were no trees, there would be no oxygen.
2. Use reusable shopping bags. There are so many different varieties of bags to choose from. My family uses two My Little Pony bags to carry our groceries.
3. Recycle. Most garbage goes to landfills. We can reduce trash by recycling.
4. Turn off lights when not using. When you play outside you don’t waste electricity.
5. Use both sides of your paper. Paper comes from trees.
When you help the Earth, the world seems so much better.

Change by Kim Winn
Things need change
Like war and pollution.
Except problems that big
Require massive solutions.
Us, we are people
7 billion of us… small.
If we can’t fix ourselves,
Then we have no chance at all.
Our generation is too lazy
We can barely move our bones.
We won’t make any progress
Staring at our phones.
People like Hitler
Weren’t stopped with a tweet.
140 characters won’t solve it all
With Isis at our feet.
People all our life
Will tell us that we can.
But waiting and wishing just won’t help
We have to use our hand.
Optimistic people
Go through life without a care.
Wake up to reality
Because life isn’t fair.
