ISSUE 116 NOVEMBER 2016

Welcome to our Activity Guide!

My Favorite Holiday

Thanksgiving comes to us at a beautiful time of year. The air is crisp and

smells like dried leaves. I love it when the temperature is cool enough to

wear sweaters and boots, but not cold enough for the snow to stick to the

ground.

Thanksgiving is a comforting holiday. There is nothing like having the whole

family under one roof to enjoy each other’s company and share stories from

the past. My family usually gathers at my house for the holiday, and my

mom always shows up early to help me prepare the Thanksgiving dinner.

Having my mother in the kitchen with me is something that I am always

thankful for. She is a marvelous cook and baker, and has passed her recipes

and techniques on to me. My siblings now bring their significant others to

family events, and it is wonderful to get to know them and welcome them in-

to our family.

Of course, the Thanksgiving feast is always something to look forward to.

Roast turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, green bean casserole are all of

the components to my favorite meal. I also love that “pumpkin spice” is the

seasonal flavor for everything from coffee to cereal to beer.

Thanksgiving is the one holiday that still seems to be about family. Most of

the other holidays are very commercial, and all about spending money. But,

Thanksgiving is about recognizing how many things in our lives we have to

be grateful for.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!
