One of the most interesting parts of Dirigo Pines for me is getting the opportunity to meet many tal-

ented individuals who live here. Recent conversations have made me decide to feature some of the

wonderful people and their talents and accomplishments here “Inn the Pines”. I hope to be able to

continue to feature a resident each month who is willing to share something with the community.

Please see me if you are interested yourself or would like to nominate a friend for me to ask.

Blue Ribbons at the Blue Hill Fair

I learned from a friend that one of our resident artists Rosemary Buetens had entered her some of her

artwork at the Blue Hill Fair. She entered four pieces and won four Blue Ribbons! Rosemary has al-

ways enjoyed art, but previously felt like you had to know what you were doing before you did it.

Her brother was a talented artist and musician and it was a bit tough following in his footsteps in

school. One of her teachers when she was young even said she had hoped Rosemary would have the

talent her brother had. After that she didn’t focus on art. She did small artistic things over the years,

but upon turning 80 Rosemary decided she would start taking art lessons. She now takes art classes at

the University of Maine and has developed her incredible talent. Rosemary also enjoys the painting

class with Valerie Wallace held here at Dirigo Pines. She said if you are physically able you should

just do it. The classes are step by step and you don’t need to have previous experience to join in the

fun– you never know what talent might have been hiding within you for years! Thank you Rosemary

for sharing your talent and inspiring me to try new things!

mer” a watercolor collage, “Autumn” an oil pastel, and “Winter” a pen and ink. Also, pictured are a

few other pieces she has done, including another piece which won an award!

Enchanted April

Into the Arms of Stangers: Stories of the Kinder-transport

Filmmaker Mark Jonathan Harris's Oscar-winning documentary tells the story of an underground rail-road -- the Kindertransport -- that saved the lives of more than 10,000 Jewish children at the dawn of World War II. Through interviews and archival footage, the survivors movingly recount being taken from their families and sent to live with strangers in the relative safety of England. Judi Dench narrates.

Saturday, October 13th 7:15 pm (KGP) Hayley Mills takes on four starring roles in this double feature about mistaken identity. In The Parent Trap, a teenage Mills plays identical twins separated at birth trying to reunite their parents.

When Dr. Bennet Omalu's autopsy studies lead him to conclude that multiple concussions could be the un-derlying cause of the brain disorders suffered by many U.S. football players, he encounters harsh resistance from the NFL establishment. Cast: Will Smith, Alec Baldwin & Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

Saturday, October 20th 7:15 pm (KGP) This adaptation of Jane Austen's novel about misguided matchmaking takes a comic look at the romantic med-dling of Emma Woodhouse. Wednesday, October 24th 7:15 pm (KGP) This Oscar-winning war epic chronicles World War II's harrowing D-Day invasion. Shot on the beaches of Normandy, France, the ambitious film attempts to cov-er the historic day from all perspectives, focusing on both sides of the conflict. Cast: John Wayne, Henry Fonda & Robert Mitchum.

Frankenstein 1931—NR—70 minutes—Closed Captioned

Saturday, October 27th 7:15 pm (KGP) In Frankenstein, a mad scientist (Colin Clive) creates a monster (the inimitable Boris Karloff) but errs by giv-ing him a criminal brain. This classic Universal film was directed by legendary horrormeister James Whale, who set the bar very high for all to follow.

Hocus Pocus 1993—PG—96 minutes

Wednesday, October 31st 7:15 pm (KGP) Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler and Kathy Najimy star in this supernatural family comedy as a trio of 17th-century sibling witches who are accidentally resur-rected in the 20th century by teenager Max.

Belfast and Moosehead Lake Railroad Foliage Train Ride Outing

Ride the train from Belfast and enjoy the colors of the fall foliage season on a round

trip scenic train ride as we take you through the changing fall vistas of the

woods, streams, and fields of Waldo Coun-ty. Travel time is approximately one hour.

Cost is $15.

Emera Astronomy Center Outing Halloween: Celestial Origins

Vampires, Witches, Goblins, and other spooky creatures! What do you associate with Halloween? Trick-or-Treating, cos-

tumes, or something more… Be it ghoulish or ghostly, Halloween is an astronomical

holiday! Experience the history of Hallow-een and how it fits into the seasons as a “cross-quarter day.” From Celtic roots

around the harvest and bonfires to modern celebrations, see why the night is celebrat-ed as one of spirits from beyond and sweet

treats! See how Samhain, and All Saints Day would eventually transform into Hal-loween. Traverse the night sky and learn

what planets, constellations, and stars will be out on your Halloween evening. A fun

filled program for the whole family! Cost is $5
