Ideas for the littles The youngest children will benefit hearing the positive words spoken to them, even though

they may be too young to understand what most of them mean just yet.

You can also use the book to build letter and color recognition, and observation skills as

they search for the stars on each page.

Age range: 2-3 years

★ Letters

○ Name the letters

○ Point to the big letters: Can you find the A?

○ Find the first letter of each word: Can you find the other As on the page?

★ Colors

○ Name the colors on each page as you flip through the book: The B is pink.

○ Look through the book for a specific color: Can you find the color blue?

○ Connect letters and colors for an added challenge: What letter is the blue

one you found? Are there other blue letters?

○ Name the color of the star: What color is the star?

Read-aloud ideas These read aloud ideas offer suggestions for how to help children integrate their learning of the words more deeply through play, movement and exploratory conversation. These suggestions are intended to spark your inspiration to create your own read aloud experience.   For a simple read-aloud enrichment activity, you can ask children which words they want to know the definition for and read it from the dictionary. * Find simple definition of the words in the Confidence Dictionary or at learnersdictionary.com.  Age range: 4 - 6

★ Introduction

○ Teach the definition of confidence: What’s confidence? It’s feeling or

believing that you can do something well or succeed at something.

○ Ask, What is something you’re confident about?

○ Share some things you think the child deserves to be confident about

★ Ending

○ Ask, Where does inside you does your confidence live?

○ Possible answers: Inside your heart, your belly, your mind…

○ It can also be fun to get silly and say different body parts where confidence

can live, like eyelashes, toes and belly button

Activities for Multiple Intelligences and Learning Styles These suggestions are organized based on Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences, sensory learning styles and introverted/extroverted personality styles. You may or may not know your child’s style and that’s ok. I suggest choosing based on preference. Give older children the chance to look through the list and see what activities they gravitate towards.   Age range: 7 - 12

Intrapersonal/Introverted ★ Use the words to prompt journaling for self-discovery, for example:

○ What kinds of things help you feel confident? ○ What are some things that you like to do to be creative? ○ When do you feel most happy? ○ When are some times you like it be quiet?

★ Start a gratitude journal listing things you’re grateful for each night

★ Find a quiet place to read through the book alone while you reflect on the words,

doodle, and/or listen to music.

Interpersonal/Extroverted ★ Read the book with others; share your favorite words as you go through it

★ Create a skit and act it out with your friends using 10 of the words from the book in

the script

★ Use the conversation-based ideas on pages 5-6

Linguistic/Read/Write ★ Choose 10 words from the book to use in a story or poem

★ Write 26 sentences, using one word from each page in each one

★ Pick 10 words you want to make sure to remember the definitions of and write out a

list of the words and their definitions.

Musical/Auditory ★ Create your own tune to sing the words or read the aloud in a rhythmic way

★ Choose 10 words from the book to use in a song (you can make the song up yourself

or change the words of a song you know)

★ Read the book out loud using a different kind of voice for each of the words on the page. See how many different kinds of voices you can make.

Spatial/Visual ★ Create a painting of your favorite word and a picture to go along with it

★ Sculpt some of the words out in clay

★ Make a collage of your favorite words

Kinesthetic/Tactile ★ Spell out the words by making the letters with your body

★ Spell out the words in sand using your fingers

★ Use the play/movement-based suggestions on pages 3-4

Logical-Mathematical ★ Survey people about their favorite words and make a chart showing the results

★ If each letter of the alphabet is given a number value that matches its place in the

alphabet (A = 1, B = 2, C = 3…), What is the sum of the letters of your first name?

★ Find the gold glitter star and figure out why it’s on that page

Existential/Highly Sensitive ★ Use the words in the book as a framework for reflecting on, discussing and

exploring big questions and themes.  ○ Questions:

■ What does being abundant mean? Why do some people feel abundant and others don’t?

 ■ Why do you think a lot of people have a hard time feeling like they’re

beautiful?

■ Do you believe in magic? Why or why not?

○ Themes: ■ Justice ■ Love ■ Respect ■ Truth

★ Use the reflection questions on page 10. You can consider them from your personal

point of view and also people in general.

Naturalist/Outdoor Learning ★ Plan an outdoor adventure or quest to find something in nature you’ve never seen

before

★ Go on a walk for natural materials and create an art piece spelling out one of the words with the materials

★ Match animals to different words in the book that describe their personality and

behavior. (For example: owls are aware, monkeys are curious, lions have pride…)

Practices

★ Use the words in the book as inspiration for setting a daily, weekly or monthly intention around a feeling or quality that you want to focus on and bring more of into your life. For example: abundance, creativity, discovery, gratitude, laughter, mindfulness, play...

★ Use the words to create simple breathing practices to help you balance your energy

and emotions.  ○ Inhale what you want to bring into your life and exhale what you want to

release. Say it out loud or to yourself as you breath in and out through your nose, or inhale through your nose, exhale through your mouth.

■ I am inhaling confidence, I am exhaling doubt ■ I am inhaling happiness, I am exhaling sadness ■ Inhale peace, exhale stress.

 ○ Use the words as inspiration to do visualized breathing. Breath deeply in and

out as you visualize a scene in your mind. Try different visualizations to help you feel different ways.

■ A joyful scene ■ A loving scene ■ A magical scene ■ A peaceful scene

★ Use the words to create positive affirmations.

○ I am beautiful, inside and out. ○ I am brave. ○ I go with the flow. ○ I am happy, healthy and hopeful. ○ I am at peace. ○ I speak my truth.
