Sleazy Dog Construction

On the Cover... January Breakfast ClubRicky & Ronnie's Cruise In Diner has been the meeting place of our monthly Breakfast Club for almost two years now... You couldn't ask for a better location.

You don't have to look any further than the next page to see the tremendous number of things for you to do in the Porsche Club. GPX member Richard Clewett will be conducting a Tech Talk following our March Breakfast Club meeting at Ricky & Ronnies (see the ad on page 11). Clewett Engineering specializes in ignition and engine management systems for high performance engines, especially adapting older enginestoelectronicfuelinjectionandcrankfiredignition. The one hour presentation will be followed by a Q&A segment.

Registrations for our April 16 Day Away from Work Autocross have started coming in. It looks like we'll have a good turnout. This year we are conducting a mandatory 2-hour classroom session for rookie drivers. Everyone is welcome to attend this Sunday evening introduction to performance driving. You will also be able to get your car tech'd and register during the Chalk Talk, saving everyone time the next morning. The event ad is on page 6.

March 10th is the 24th Annual Porsche & Vintage VW Literature Meet at the L. A. Airport Hilton. I've been or 4 times and can't wait for the next year. Even if you take an empty wallet, there is still so much to see. People from all around the world arrive Friday night so they can get into the hall early Saturday morning. There's a small ad on page 8. You'll also have an opportunity to meet PCA's incoming national president, Prescott Kelly. Talk about someone who knows Porsche literature, posters, models and, well... just about everything Porsche.

Other great news for those of us who have missed the annual Dunkel Brothers Swap Meet is the resurrection of this Porsche Only Swap Meet. The meet will be in Costa Mesa. The Porsche 56 Club and 912 Registry have put their heads together for this one. Their ad is also on page 8.

The end of March has the largest Porsche event west of the Rockies, the Zone 8 Speed Festival at the California Speedway (ad on page 1). Besides Club Racing, Time Trial, Autocross, Concours and Vendor's Row, you'll also be able to drive you and your friends around the actual track (at reduced speed) in your own car during the lunchtime Track Tours. Give me a call (or email) if you have any questions or want to volunteer a hand.

Every three years since 2001, Porshce Cars North America and Brian Redman have put on Rennsport Reunion at the famous Daytona International Speedway.

I was fortunate enough to attend the 2004 event and, let me tell you, the only thing I've seen that rivaled it was Porsche's 50th Anniversary at Laguna Seca in 1998. If you have any interest in historical Porsche race cars, this is THE place to be. Not only cars, but the list of famous Porsche drivers in attendance was staggering. To be able to literally rub elbows with the people and cars was an opportunity of a lifetime

GPX members John & Joyce Perchulyn brought gifts to our December Breakfast Club meeting — 25 Jewel Case Calendars. Their business, Riviera Imaging in Redondo Beach, is essentially a photo lab that does things from these calendars to digital film services to greeting cards... good things for both your business or home. Check out their website at RivieraImaging.com. Needless to say, the calendars disap-peared in about 45 seconds.

These calendars were so well received that we will probably commission John to make a 2008 version for this year's Holiday Party (maybe even for participants at our October Day Away from Work Autocross).

It's great to see what some of our members do with their work time. The photo on the right is Joyce and John at last year's tour of the Saleen factory in Irvine.

As many of you can tell, the Grand Prix Region’s monthly newsletter, The Circuit, is indeed quite a production. It has received national recognition from the Porsche Club of America the last two years.

Our membership has been increasing and, as a result, we are printing and mailing a larger number of newsletters. In addi-tion, we distribute about 750 electronically. When you look at the number of copies in circulation each month, and the fact that each copy may be read my more than one person, our publication reaches a significant number of readers each month. This is where you come in.

As a member of the Grand Prix Region, we would like to continue to give you the best newsletter we can possibly deliver. To do this we need more advertising income, and we would like you to help us obtain new advertisers. If you know of any type of a business that would like to at-tract new customers, earn more money, increase store traffic, boost their image or just flat out increase their odds of pos-sibly making a sale to a Grand Prix Region member, please have them contact Skip Carter.

Perhaps you know of a good Porsche mechanic, alignment expert, attorney, real estate agent, salesperson, florist, tire company, auto parts supply company, medical professional or some other individual or company interested in reaching a market that typically drives one of the finest automobiles in the his-tory of cars. It’s almost a virtual guarantee that the reader of their ad will probably drive a Porsche.

Advertising really works. So the next time you pick up somebody’s business card, ask if they’d also be interested in placing an ad in our newsletter. If they want something big-ger than a business card, we can accommodate that as well. The ad rates are on the back page (right above the informa-tion for the Breakfast Club Meeting). For additional infor-mation contact Skip at (619) 992-9927 or send an e-mail: [email protected].

And, speaking of the Breakfast Club Meeting… We hope to see you at the next one.

Breakfast Club Meeting Update — Jan 6story & photos by Pete Ross

Pete Ross

2007… Already a New Year…

They really seem to be piling up these days and approaching with much more speed than they used to. And speaking of things picking up speed, you should see the increased attendance at the Porsche Club of America, Grand Prix Region’s Breakfast Club Meetings that are held on the first Saturday of each month.

At the January gathering, we had over forty members and guests show up, about thirty-six Porsches, and a handful of non-Porsches. All those Porsches… It was quite a spectacle to behold, and everyone had a great time on an absolutely splendid day.

Some of the highlights included Karen Lewis’ license plate on her Porsche that reads “BDAYXTC”. This shows just how nice a guy Bob Lewis really is, and I’m sure we’ll all be sending Bob our respective birth dates in anticipation of receiving our 2007 gifts. In addition, we had Tony Ugas show up for his first meet-ing after being a member for a year and a half. We also had sev-eral potential new members. Among them were: James Verkest, Mike Boivin, Bill Gonzalez (who brought his brand new Porsche Turbo), his brother Rene Gonzalez and Mariana Montes. Rod Williams filled out his application and officially became a mem-ber, and new member Paul Mason was also in attendance.

Attendees were Joe Bryant, Richard Clewitt, Bill Davis, Norma Ann Dawson, De Jur Jones, Michael Dolphin, Patricia Geary Johnson, Marty and Brita Goldsmith, Lorenzo Gray, Thomas Hartel, Jeff Haas, Giles Hurley and his son Van Giles Hurley, Bob and Karen Lewis, Rico Lopez, Roger Lubeck, Paul Mason, Phil Millard, Rick Mills, Jimmie Mitchell, Marty Noonan, Pete Novak, John Perchulyn, Peter Ross, Ron Shanon, Howard Ste-phens, Norm Stone, Michael Takaki, Robert and JoAnn Trinkle, Tony Ugas, Henry Voskanian, Greg White and Rod Williams. There were also several members in attendance that forgot to sign the roster. The final attendee was Speedster, JoAnn Trinkle’s Daschound who was sporting a doggy dress coat that was embla-zoned with a large Porsche logo on his back.

As always, everyone that showed up had a great time and our attendance is growing on a monthly basis. However, we’re still waiting for you to show up. So again… we implore you… wake up early on the first Saturday in February and join us. We guar-antee that you’ll have a great time mixing and mingling with your fellow Porschephiles. You can catch up on your sleep the following Sunday since football season should be done by then.
