YUCHAMEDICAL PAIN MANAGEMENT &CHIROPRACTIC REHABILITATION

When it comes to applying a “cutting-edge” approach to helping individu-als achieve optimal health, physicalrehabilitation and pain management,Yucha Medical Pain Management &Chiropractic Rehabilitation “wrotethe book,” so to speak.

Randy E. Yucha, DC, and Rod Gabel, DC,authors of A Unique Approach to Your Health— Putting the Whole Team Behind You!, arepartners in Yucha Medical Pain Management& Chiropractic Rehabilitation, located at 435 West Cedarville Road in North CoventryTownship.

Two years ago, the partners transitioned thepractice to reflect a new, medically integratedapproach, offering effective ways to combineconservative chiropractic treatments andphysical therapy with medical pain manage-ment. The medical integration includes paininjections, topical anti-inflammatory prescrip-tions filled in-house, bracing for low backs, necks and knees, blood analysis for food sensitivities, medical weight loss, as well ascutting-edge procedures such as PRP andStem Cell treatments. These treatments, alongwith conservative modalities including mas-sage therapy, spinal decompression, electricmuscle stimulation, ultrasound therapy andexercise rehabilitation, provide relief from painassociated with headaches, migraines, neckand back pain, disc problems, osteoarthriticknees, carpal tunnel and sciatica, along withsinus and allergy problems, fatigue, irritabilityand many other stress-related conditions.

The multitude of services allow them totreat muscle, joint, disc and nerve prob-lems that cause pain in most cases. Thisstrongly distinguishes Yucha Medical PainManagement & Chiropractic Rehabilitationfrom many of the other chiropractic offices inthe area, as they are more comprehensive intheir approach to healing the body.

“Chiropractic is just a small portion of whatwe do and what we offer,” explains Dr. Gabel.“We don’t even consider ourselves a chiropractic facility. We really are a physicalmedicine or medical pain management clinic. We have a medical doctor (Dr. MaryKashurba, MD) overseeing the pain manage-ment side, and we also have a physician assis-tant (Hanh Pham, PA-C) who is trained inorthopedics and pain management as well. This allows us to combine modern medicalprocedures and chiropractic, to get people bet-ter faster, and that’s our intention. People nowhave more options, and they have all of theseresources at their disposal all under one roof.Dr. Mary Kashurba, MD, ABIHM and Hanh Pham, PA-C.

“Meeting in the middle and integratingmedicine and chiropractic gives ourpatients the best of both worlds,” Dr. Gabelsaid. “Our transition into a physical medi-cine practice and adding medical painmanagement providers to our team hasgreatly expanded our scope of practice andhas allowed us to be very successful intreating our patients.”

“There are definitely differences betweenchiropractic offices,” Dr. Yucha points out.“We’ve been able to utilize everythingunder our license to help people. The chiro-practic adjustment is just one way to helppeople get out of pain. Most chiropracticoffices only offer this treatment, but ouroffice has historically offered so much more, and that’s why we’ve been so successfulover the last 25 years. We use the mostadvanced technology, specialized tablesand equipment, and many other officeshave not incorporated this, and it’s usuallybecause of the price,” he said.

Yucha Medical Pain Management &Chiropractic Rehabilitation is the onlyoffice in the Tri-County Area to offer thePro-Adjuster technology, which is a low-force adjusting instrument to prevent thetwisting, cracking and popping sensationsthat can keep people from seeking the helpthey need. “Now everyone can benefitfrom the chiropractic adjustment… fromelderly patients suffering from osteoporosisto children to people who just don’t like the‘popping’ sound. We have two ProAdjuster machines, along with specializedtables that we use for different types ofproblems, as well as very specific discissues or radiating pain symptoms,” Dr. Yucha said. “In our therapy room, weoffer many active and passive modalities inorder to aid in the healing process or to helprehabilitate a patient following an injury. We incorporate all these things (as opposedto a lot of other chiropractors in the area).”

“There are a lot of things that people cando conservatively,” adds Dr. Gabel. “Ourcare is still extremely conservative. We canprescribe different types of at-home equipment that’s covered by insurance, like low-back supports and cervical collarsthat people can use at home to feel betterfor longer. Now people have the opportu-nity to use something at home instead oftaking a pain medication or rushing in foran appointment. I think our patients reallyappreciate that,” he said.

“We also have an in-house pharmacy fortopical, non-narcotic pain medications thatare extremely safe in comparison to some ofthe narcotics that people are being prescribedon a daily basis. These medications are pharmaceutical grade so you can’t buy themover-the-counter. The reason we have an in-house pharmacy is we don’t want peopledamaging their kidneys and their livers withover-the-counter anti-inflammatories,” Dr. Yucha said. “They are much stronger, much more effective, and much safer in comparison to taking daily oral meds.”

Yucha Medical Pain Management &Chiropractic Rehabilitation also distin-guishes itself from other clinics by offeringMedical Weight Loss, which is directlysupervised by their medical providers tohelp the Tri-County Area combat the grow-ing obesity epidemic. In addition to losingweight on this program, there are a multi-tude of health benefits, including increasedenergy and stamina, better cardiovascularhealth and reduced pain. They are also theonly clinic in the area that offers Lipo LaserRed Light Therapy in order to lose fat andinches rapidly. There are informationalworkshops held in the office, or private,one-on-one consultations can be scheduledwith one of the doctors.

“We do medical weight loss to help peo-ple lose weight fast,” Dr. Yucha said. “Theresults that we have seen have beenabsolutely remarkable! We have somepatients losing over 30 lbs in a month, losing inches, and fitting in clothes theyhaven’t worn in years. We’ve literally hadpatients come in crying because of their success. It’s changed their lives completely, and we feel great about helping them reachtheir goals.”

“When you talk about nutrition andweight loss, we also do a lot of food sensitivity and allergy testing here, so it’snot just always pain based,” Dr. Gabeladded. “When you’re eating the wrongfoods that don’t agree with you, it createsa lot of inflammation, and chronic inflam-mation can lead to an increase inheadaches and migraines, increase in pain, inability to lose weight, energy and fatigueissues, gastric reflux, bloating, and G.I.issues. It’s important to find out whichfruits, vegetables, meats, dairy and evengluten may be causing an inflammatoryresponse in the body.”

The success of Yucha Medical PainManagement & Chiropractic Rehabilitation’scomprehensive multi-service, multi-discipli-nary, multi-specialist approach is evidencedby the current need to expand to accommo-date an increased demand for their services. And space permitted, further expansion ofservices may be on the horizon.

“The next thing we’re going to add is hearing aids,” said Dr. Yucha. “It’s huge, cognitively, and studies show people whocan’t hear have greater chance ofAlzheimer’s because they’re not able tocommunicate with the general public andthe world.”

“Another thing we’re going to be bring-ing in soon is youth enhancement and rejuvenation and hormone replacementtherapy,” added Dr. Gabel. “PRP and StemCell Therapy can help by injecting differentgrowth factors into areas for anti-agingeffects and hair restoration, but these treat-ments can also help to reduce pain andinflammation. These treatments may trulybe the future of medicine. It allows yourbody to heal itself, in essence, by injectingstem cells or platelet rich plasma. The ideais rather than succumbing to arthritis andother degenerative conditions or the agingprocess, you can actually re-generate tissueand possibly reverse the effects or wear-and-tear and time. It’s certainly worth considering as it presents as safer and lesscostly option in comparison to surgery.”

Regarding the efficacy of that multi-disci-plinary multi-specialist approach, Dr. Gabelsaid, “For one, Dr. Yucha has been adjustingpeople here for 30 years. There’s probablynot a lot that he hasn’t seen. I have a sportsmedicine background. We have another chiropractor (Dr. Justin DiPhillippo, DC,DACNB) who is a chiropractic neurologist.

We have people on the medical side withorthopedic, surgical, and physical medicineand rehabilitation backgrounds. We canattack different types of injuries in a varietyof ways. We all collaborate on individualpatient cases, so that our patients get the benefit of multiple eyes and multiple specialties looking at the same patient, andrecommending what may be the best andmost efficient treatment for them specifical-ly,” he said, adding, “There’s a lot of differentways to treat the same issue, but when youcan combine effective treatment options, people get better at a much faster rate.”

“And I think people are also veryimpressed and appreciative that we’vebeen able to put together a group of talented doctors like this,” Dr. Yucha added.“It gives them more confidence,” he said, pointing out that it also accelerates theprocess of providing results. “We felt if we could put something together wherepeople didn’t have to go out as often, andbe able to provide more things to get thembetter, faster, people would be happy. Andthey are very happy.”

Dr. Yucha grew up in Pottstown, graduating from St. Pius X High School, St. Joseph’s University with a Bachelor ofScience degree, and Temple Universitywith a Master’s degree in ClinicalPsychology. After graduating fromSherman College of Chiropractic, heobtained a Fellowship in the InternationalAcademy of Clinical Acupuncture, andbegan his private practice in 1990, specializ-ing in the relief of acute and chronic pain, using conservative techniques for headacherelief, disc problems and spinal injuries.

At the age of 12, Rod Gabel, who is fromthe Boyertown area, was successfully treat-ed for recurring headaches by Dr. Yucha.Inspired by the results, he studied atVillanova University and Palmer Collegeof Chiropractic to become a chiropractor.During his last trimester at Palmer, hereturned to Dr. Yucha’s office for his four-month externship program, and in2012, Dr. Rod Gabel joined the team. He isan Internationally Certified ChiropracticSports Physician and a Titleist PerformanceInstitute Golf Fitness Instructor, and is able to help area golfers and all other athletes play longer, play better and playwithout pain.

“When people limit themselves to anything, I think they really miss out onwhat could be,” Dr. Gabel said, “so I thinkthe constant evolution, whether it’sexpanding the business or looking forother pain relief options is extremelyimportant. I think too many people are setin treating their pain one way or with onething. There are too many things out therethat they could try, and it’s our job to provide them with those options. I believeit’s important to be on the forefront of medicine as it is always changing andalways improving. We owe it to ourpatients to always provide them with thebest practices possible.”

“We’re definitely risk takers,” Dr. Yuchasaid, in regard to constantly looking to find more ways to help patients recoverquickly. “I think I can speak for Dr. Rod, wenever really look at the negative in regardto whether something will work. We doour absolute best to make it work. That’sthe way I feel with patients. I expect everybody to get better. I know that noteverybody is going to get better, but honestly when I sit with a patient and gothrough what we recommend, I honestlybelieve they’re going to get better, and inmost cases, they do.” he said.
