1. The RHOA currently pays a security service to patrol the neighborhood once a week on either Friday or Saturday night during the hours of 9:00pm to 1:00am. Do you agree that security services should be continued?
t
Responses were roughly split evenly between yes and no.
Suggestions included establishing a neighborhood watch program, changing the hours of patrol, installing park closed signs with the times 11:00pm to 5:00am and installing motion detection lights at the park.
2. The RHOA currently spends significant sums planting and maintaining annual flowers at 20 different locations throughout the neighborhood. Should the RHOAcontinue planting annual flowers?
t
The majority of homeowners felt that the annual flowers in the neighborhood enhance the beauty of the neighborhood.
The RHOA board will continue to closely monitor these costs, and to request multiple vendor proposals each year.
Winter Pond Safety
As the winter months approach, it is important
to be reminded of the dangers cold weather
presents. For the safety of the homeowners
please do not walk, skate or participate in any
activity on the ponds regardless of how thick
the ice may seem.
4. Do you believe that the RHOA should sponsor social events (i.e., annual picnic, Easter egg hunt, etc.)?
t
Responses were split evenly between yes and no.
It was suggested that the board find sponsors and/or donors for event activities, for example the face painters and trolley at the annual picnic.
5. Do you believe that campaign signs should be allowed in our neighborhood prior to a primary or general election?
t
Responses were overwhelming in favor of upholding the ban on yard signs even during elections.
Ridges Homeowners
Association Survey
garbage ReminderGarbage cans are to
always be screened from view and are only allowed
to be put out on the day of garbage collection.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Park Smart…
tPark and walk in well lit, busy areas
tUse valet parking or an attended garage if you are alone
tShop at locations that have police and/or security patrols
tNever display or “flash” your cash or valuable personal items.
tIf possible, don’t leave valuables (cell phones, electronics, GPS devices, jewelry, etc.) in car …put them in the trunk if necessary
tKeep the amount of cash that you carry to a minimum …use credit cards
tCarry only one major credit card …if your wallet is stolen, you only have one card to report
3. Do you believe that the RHOA should adopt a procedure that allows fines to be imposed against homeowners who violate the covenants and refuse to resolv the issue after they are notified in writing of the violation?
t
Responses wereoverwhelmingly in favor of implementing a fine system which would allow the RHOA to impose fines against homeowners who violate the covenants and refuse to resolve issues after receiving written notice of violations.
On September 1, 2008 the RHOA board implemented a fine procedure covering covenant violations that are not corrected after written notice. This procedure was published in the 3rd quarter newsletter. A homeowner has three (3) days to respond after receiving a notice. A copy of the new procedure is included in each letter that cites a covenant violation.
Parking Lot Safety During the HolidaysBefore long, parking lots at shopping centers, banks, grocery stores and many other venues will be packed with holiday shoppers, rushing to do all of their early and last minute shopping before time runs out. But holiday revelry can quickly turn to misfortune if you don’t put safety at the top of your list this holiday season.
Here are a few simple rules to follow when walking through any parking lot.
Strangers…
tBe aware of strangers approaching you for any reason
tDo not be afraid to tell subjects to back off, scream for help, activate your car alarm
tIf you suspect that you are being followed, switch directions and immediately go to a well-lit area crowded with people
tIf someone in a vehicle asks for directions ignore them or answer from a distance and keep walking — do not approach the vehicle
Arriving at car…
tHave your keys in your hand and alarm panic button ready to activate
tLook into the vehicle and check for intruders before entering
tContinuously scan the area while loading children and packages
tTeach your children to enter and exit the vehicle quickly
tRoll up the windows and lock your doors as soon you get in the car
tMake it a habit to always start your vehicle and drive away immediately
Walk Smart…
tPay attention to your surroundings, people and vehicles in the area
tDo not approach situations that do not feel safe
tWalk with confidence
tDo not overload yourself with packages
tCarry your purse close to your body and your wallet in your front pocket
tDo not be distracted by talking on a cell phone or wearing headphones
tAsk security to escort you if you feel uneasy
A survey was included with the 2008 annual
meeting and picnic packet. Surveys were
also available at the annual meeting to
complete. Thank you to the homeowners
who responded. Although the response
level was relatively low (about 23% of all
homeowners), the RHOA board understands that many times “no news is good news”. This would
indicate that the vast majority of the Ridges’
homeowners are happy with the quality and
appearance of the neighborhood.
Listed at right are the questions from the survey, as well as an indication of
the respondents’ preferences and suggestions. The RHOA
board appreciates the feedback and will consider
the suggestions while preparing the budget
for 2009.
