ROOMS WITH A SEA VIEWA hotel room that overlooks the sea is hard to beat. The panoramic vista over the Velvet Strand is one reason to stay at the newly refurbished Portmarnock Hotel & Links (1, 2 & 3), others are the award-winning dining at both 1780 and The Seaview restaurants, and the pristine and private spa. Inspiration for the scheme came from the setting of this former Jameson family home: a palette of moody blues and greys of the sky, beige and gold from the miles of sandy dunes and sharp greens and yellow from the flora found on the famous links course that surrounds the hotel are brought inside using the textures of Irish linen and wool in curtains and upholstery.
