Inspiring Children and Youth to beActive, Creative, and Connected in New WaysWe at Red Fox hope you and your families and communities are staying healthyand well. We are staying safe and having fun pivoting all our programs to virtualactivities. Our team is devising new ways to help children and youth stay active,creative and connected. We have dropped off active play equipment to childrenthroughout Metro Vancouver. The children can practice their skills and thendemonstrate them in virtual gatherings. We thank the United Way of the LowerMainland and Vancity Community Foundation for making these smiles possible.



Children at Strathcona Elementary School in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside havetwo programs just for them: our PowWow Drum & Dance Group and Creative Cafe.



The Drum Group has been running since 2010. Elder Kat Zucomulwut Norris leadschildren in traditional PowWow drumming and dancing. Our team dropped off handdrums and bannock ingredients so that everyone can dance, drum and makebannock together on Zoom.

Creative CaféOur Creative art, theatre and music program with the J Peachy Gallery continues toinspire children to express themselves and learn in new ways. We dropped off artsupplies to children and then everyone shared their creations on Zoom. We had avirtual concert with local musicians. Children were dancing and singing along.



Phone Outreach SessionsThe children who participate in our programs are used to seeing the Red Fox staff every week. To stay connected, we are calling children weekly to check in and seehow they are doing. Many children are feeling isolated and the calls brighten theirdays.

Calling all Youth - 2 Exciting Opportunities AwaitRed Fox Youth Internship Program - this brand new program is a paid trainingposition for youth who are interested in working in recreation, youth work orchildcare. Gain the skills and knowledge needed to land a job you love. Boost yourdigital and financial literacy skills. Enjoy fun team building activities. This is a three-year project with start dates every few months.



Hey youth, want to help the environment and be active at the same time? Join oursecond year of Seed Generation, our stewardship and recreation project withEnvironmental Youth Alliance. Pull invasive species at Still Creek, grow native plantsin Strathcona Park and learn about Coast Salish traditions and practices. Explorenature on weekly hikes, canoe rides and bike trips. Lead Active Play and Drummingactivities to children in local parks. For youth ages 15 to 18.



Both programs are possible thanks to the support of Employment & SocialDevelopment Canada.

Bringing out the Best in our TeamEveryone in Red Fox is working remotely right now. Our team of staff and youthleaders are learning from home through webinars and group activities. They areincreasing their digital literacy and learning new skills to foster social-emotionaldevelopment and physical literacy in children and youth. They are getting guidancefrom a counselor on how best to support children and youth right now. They're



getting some help for themselves too which is good for their mental health.

Red Fox is fostering physical health too by encouraging our team to be active. Theyare doing fun activities together as well as on their own. From dancing Zumba onZoom to creating body weight workouts together to going on a walk or a bike rideon their own - we are getting our team active and ready to resume our Active Playprograms this summer. Thanks to Vancity Community Foundation and SocialVenture Partners Vancouver, Red Fox is able to support our staff and youth leadersto keep learning and moving.



Summer PlansWe are gearing up for our summer Active Play, Creative Cafe and Drum Groupprograms. We are gathering information and guidelines to stay safe while gettingkids active and learning new skills. Stay tuned for details. Our youth programslaunch in June with a combination of in-person and virtual activities. We are hiringfour youth for our Canada Summer Jobs position, thanks again to Employment &Social Development Canada.

Background: Red Fox Healthy Living Society is a registered Charity that promoteshealthy living and life skills to children and youth of all backgrounds and fostersemployability to youth and young adults who face barriers, with a focus onIndigenous youth. All our programs are free and accessible to families living on lowincomes and we provide training honoraria to youth leaders. Red Fox engages1,000 + children and youth in physical literacy, food security and cultural programseach month. Graduates of our Youth Employment Training program are working inchildcare, youth work, Arts and Culture, and food services.
