She did an internship in

Stellenbosch South-Africa on Rapid Prototyping. The whole experience of living abroad for three months was a lot of fun! Before Stefanie started at ExxonMobil, she worked for an engineering company for two years, but she really wanted a job “in the field” and therefore she applied for a job at ExxonMobil. In 2007 she started at ExxonMobil as a process engineer on the Flexicoker unit at the Rotterdam Refinery and had several jobs since then, including environmental coordinator and Scaffolding & Insulation Supervisor. She enjoys the combination of working with people in a team in a technical environment. Olivia MalpiediDevelopment Engineer, ExxoMobil UK, Fawley

Olivia started with the company in September 2013 as a Chemical Engineering graduate from the University of Birmingham, after her experience as a vacation student last summer. Having always enjoyed science and maths, and being lucky enough to do some work experience at the refinery during secondary school, Olivia decided she wanted to go into this industry because of all the opportunities it offers from the exciting new challenges

that it faces every day, to career development.

Olivia joined the Energy group as a Development Engineer and works on long term projects that aim to improve energy efficiency across the whole refinery, as well as day-to-day monitoring of units on site to steward their performance. In the current economic climate, it is essential that we achieve high levels of efficiency in order to maintain a competitive position. She has really enjoyed her time here so far, as her job involves interaction with all the business teams, giving her a broad view of the refinery, allowing her to meet new people every day and most importantly, helping her to develop a wide range of skills. Although a large part of Olivia’s role involves technical skills she has learnt during her school and university years, she has also found that other skills such as communication, teamwork and initiating action are just as important. Olivia is looking forward to facing new challenges and experiencing more areas here at Fawley refinery, and she is hoping to get the opportunity to work at one of the numerous other refineries around the world.
