Installing OEM GC on RDBMS 11.2.0

This paper is about installing OEM Grid Control on a Oracle 11gR2 database.

The Server that is going to be used is a VMWare Image with the following characteristics:

As we are planning to work with the Software Library for creating several Golden Images, we use a

large Hard Disk of 80 GByte.

After unzipping the Database Software from

http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/index.html we navigate to the database

sub directory and execute ./runInstaller

After executing ./runInstaller the Installer will show up

To stay informed on Security Updates, enter your My Oracle Support credentials and press [Next >]

As we will create the database later, we select "Install database software only".

Press [Next >]

As we are going to use the database as repository for a OEM Grid Control demo system only, we

select "Single instance database installation", no need for a RAC database.

Press [Next >]

Install any additional languages if you like.

Press [Next >]

Select Enterprise Edition

Press [Next >]

Here I select Note 467677.1 from My Oracle Support, for additional instructions on the installation of

OEM GC 10.2.0.5 on an existing Database 11g

Select only those Database Components needed for OEM GC.

Press [Next >]

We use /u01/app/oracle as Oracle Base

and as Software Location we enter: /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1

Press [Next >]

We type /u01/app/oraInventory as Inventory Directory

Press [Next >]

We have selected the dba Group as OSDBA and OSOPER Group

Press [Next >]

OK, my mistake I should have created a Swap Area of 2.9GByte, however I am pretty sure that the

actual value of 1.95GB is sufficient so I select "Ignore All" and press [Next >]

Ok, everything has been entered correctly so press [Finish]

After finishing the Installation, you will be prompted to execute 2 root scripts.

Connect as user root and execute both of the scripts.

After the scripts has been completed, press [OK]

OK, that's it!

Press [Close] to exit the runInstaller

Creating the database

After navigating to /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1/bin execute ./dbca

Press [Next >]

Select "Create a Database"

Press [Next >]

Select "Custom Database"

Press [Next >]

We entered oemrep.mycorpdomain.com as the Global Database Name

Press [Next >]

Deselect "Configure Enterprise Manager" as we don't want to do a local installation of OEM Database

Control.

Press [Next >]

We selected "Use the Same Administrative Password for All Accounts", we will change this later on.

Press [Next >]

For our demo system we will use File System as the Storage Type and choose for using "Oracle-

Managed Files", of course you can make a different choice as Storage location.

We have choosen to use a Flash Recovery Area and are not going for Archivelog Mode. Of course you

can make a different choice here, or change later.

Select Oracle Label Security

Press [Standard Database Components]

Press [Next >]

Deselect "Oracle Multimedia" and "Oracle Application Express]

Press [OK]

Press [All Inialization Parameters]

Make adjustments as described

We have selected AL32UTF8 as Character Set

Press [Next >]

We leave the Storage settings as they ware and press [Next >]

Select "Create Database"

We also selected "Create Database Creation Scripts"

Press [Next >]

You can examine this page to see what selection were made

Press [OK]

Press [OK]

After completion of the Database creation the Confirmation window shows up

Press [Exit]

We have edited /etc/oratab and set the last character in the oemrep entry to Y. By this you can use the

dbstart and dbshut script to start and stop the database.

Installing OEM GC

We will now install OEM GC in an existing Database and will use the silent mode for that.

First we need to install based on a Full Installer "Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Release

10.2.0.1.1"

Next we will install, based on the Patch Installer "Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Release

10.2.0.5"

Both installers can be downloaded from

http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oem/index.html

After downloading you should have the following files:

gc_102011_linux.zip

gc_10205_part1of2.zip

gc_10205_part2of2.zip

Unzip gc_102011_linux.zip to a temporary location

unzip gc_102011_linux.zip -d /tmp

Next navigate to directory /tmp/Disk1/response and edit the em_using_existing_db.rsp

response file

For Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL) 5.X and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.X, if /usr/lib/libdb.so.2 does

not exist, run the following command:

ln -s /usr/lib/libgdbm.so.2.0.0 /usr/lib/libdb.so.2

Next start the installation of OEM GC Release 2 (10.2.0.1 for Linux or 10.2.0.2 for MS Windows)

using:

/tmp/10.2.0.5/3731593/Disk1/runInstaller -noconfig -silent -responsefile

/tmp/10.2.0.5/3731593/Disk1/response/patchset.rsp

Stop all OPMN processes by typing:

<OmsHome>/opmn/bin/opmnctl stopall

Next logon as user root and execute:

<OmsHome>/allroot.sh

Installing Patch 10.2.0.5

Unzip both files: gc_10205_part1of2.zip and gc_10205_part2of2.zip to a temporary location

unzip gc_10205_part1of2.zip -d /tmp/10.2.0.5

unzip gc_10205_part2of2.zip -d /tmp/10.2.0.5

Next navigate to /tmp/10.2.0.5 and unzip file p3731593_10205_LINUX.zip

cd /tmp/10.2.0.5

unzip p3731593_10205_LINUX.zip

Navigate to directory /tmp/10.2.0.5/3731593/Disk1/response and edit file patchset.rsp

cd /tmp/10.2.0.5/3731593/Disk1/response

vi patchset.rsp

Next run the installation of the Patch on the OMS Home

agentpatch.rsp

cd /tmp/10.2.0.5/3731593/Disk1/response

cp patchset.rsp agentpatchset.rsp

Edit file agentpatchset.rsp

Next run the installation of the Patch on the Agent Home

Next logon as user root and execute root.sh

<OmsHome>/root.sh

After applying the patch execute:

export PERL5LIB= /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/oms10g/perl/lib/5.6.1/

Now configure the OEM GC using ConfigureCG.pl

[oracle@oem oms10g]$ /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/oms10g/perl/bin/perl

/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/oms10g/sysman/install/ConfigureGC.pl

/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0

Next monitoring user DBSNMP should be unlocked and it's password needs to be set

sqlplus / as sysdba

alter user dbsnmp account unlock identified by "welcome01";

exit

After logging on to the OEM GC Console, you will find a Target called

"generic_mom_managed_host".

When using the Microsoft Operations Management Connector (MOM) plug-in, you need to configure

hits target. If you are not using this Connector, simply deleted from the All Targets page.
