common course offered at BHSU, DSU, NSU, SDSU, and USD. In order to assure that students are learning, the capstone course must include holistic assessment. If students complete BADM 482 from a different institution then the Department is unable to assess student learning through embedded experiences. For purposes of AACSB and HLC accreditation, both bodies require assurance of learning standards embedded in the programs. BADM 485 will allow the Department to assess the highest level of learning that is achieved by students. The new course will provide a higher level of integration and application of all aspects of business, financial and economic analysis than the original capstone experience course, BADM 482 Business Policy & Strategy.

the curriculum. The department head conducts exit interviews with graduating seniors each year, and each year receives the same message – that the students are graduating with a deficit in their education – with no background in bar and beverage management. In addition, the department head recently conducted an extensive survey of the 65 ACPHA Accredited programs and discovered that every other accredited program includes a bar and beverage course, and for SDSU to be competitive with accredited colleagues, it is essential that the program offer this course. The Department has chosen to make the course an elective because some students may not be interested in developing their bar and beverage management skills. The Department is proud to be an ACPHA Accredited program and looks forward to adding this course to the curriculum so that students have a well-rounded experience in order to launch
