    economy as a whole.

    The government of India ,realized this and

    initiated the apex level institutions to help

    the cooperative movement in India.

    It was set up in march 1963.

    It was set up mainly for the development

    of co-operative movement at nationallevel .

    Its main function is to plan and promoteprograms through co-operative societies.

    fertilizer plants,agro,etc. e.g.: fertilizer

    marketing units of Gujarat is funded by

    NCDC.

    It also provides subsidy to: storage in north

    eastern region, cold storage in all states,fishery co-operatives and dairy

    development backward states.

    Provides financial support to primary,region, state and national level marketing

    societies towards: working capital finance,

    strengthening share capital and purchase of

    NABARD came into existence on 12th July

    1982.

    It is an apex institute accredited with allmatters concerning policy and operations

    in field of credit for agriculture in rural

    areas.

    Its capital is contributed by RBI and

    government.

    On annual basis, NABARD prepares the rural

    credit plans for all districts in country.

    It promotes research in the field of rural

    banking ,agriculture and rural development.

    NABARD does not finance directly it acts as alink between bank and farmers.

    NABARD operates throughout the country withhead office in Mumbai and 28 regional offices

    and 320 district development offices.

    Works as an apex body which looks after financial

    needs of agricultural and rural credit.

    Provides short term (up to 18 months), medium term

    ( 1.5 to 7 years) and long term (not exceeding 25

    yrs.)

    It also provides long term assistance in form of loans

    to state govt. not exceeding 20 yrs. ,for

    contribution to share capital of co-operative creditinstitutions.

    SHG came into existence mainly

    for villagers.

    It is a group of 15-20people.

    Bank gives 1-4 times of theirsavings as loans.

    Loan is issued in name of group

    any they are responsible forrepayment of loan amount.

    SHG grants loan to members for

    various purposes.21

    SHG authorizes at least three members and any two

    of them jointly operate the account in the bank.

    RBI has issued instructions to all banks permitting toopen bank account of registered or unregistered

    SHGS.

    NABARD has taken a big stride in SHG.

    The total credit for SHG is around 3000 crores WHERE

    NABARD contributed almost 1500 crore.

    SHG program is the largest micro credit program in

    the world, implemented by NABARD.

    constituted by NABARD.

    It provides consultancy services in agriculture

    and agro processing projects.

    Although its services will be provided on

    payment of consultancy charges , it has more

    It was established in 2002 with paid up capital of1500 and 200 crores respectively.

    NABARD and 4 other have contribute to the equity.

    It has obtained certificate of registration fromInsurance Regulatory and DevelopmentAuthority(IDRA).

    Objective of this it to act as an implementing agency

    for govt. National Agricultural InsuranceScheme(NAIS).

    NAIS is implemented in 23 states and about 6million farmer have been covered.
