STUDIO FILM

• We have decided that our film would be a studio film as it would be a high budget film, a mass market film and would be profit driven. Studios are also much bigger and have support from larger corporations which could help us make our film to the highest standards. Our film would be vertically integrated due to the fact that it would allow for us to have more control as to what goes on during the production, distribution and exhibition stages which could lead to us being able to earn more money and produce the film to our best abilities. Our film would benefit from the studio being vertically integrated because of the security that it will be distributed since it does not depend on another company to decide if its good enough to be distributed since our studio would have complete control over it and would be in charge of distributing it.

• Our film will be a “Hollywood Film” meaning it would be a big film made by a major studio

FUNDING OF A STUDIO FILM

• The funding of studio films can come from private investors, film production studios, presales, product placements or a combination of sources

• The involvement of famous actors, directors and Hollywood companies make film projects more attractive to investors

• Hollywood funding tends to have a very resourceful nature which helps producers secure money to meet the multi-million dollar film budgets

• The budget of a “Hollywood Film” can range from 1 million to around 20-30 or more million dollars when it comes to marketing costs

• On a bigger scale the average budget of a “Hollywood Film” including both production and marketing costs, is around 139 million dollars.

• All major studios have financing deals with a huge fund

PRODUCTION VALUES S T U D I O F I L M

PRODUCTION VALUES OF A STUDIO FILM• Studio films tend to have high

production values due to the large amount of crew members who specialize in the different areas of production the lights, sound, camera work, costumes, set design, and editing

• Not only this but the high budget allows for high quality and more equipment making the film look more professional

• Majority of a studio films budget is in fact used for these different production values to make sure that their film is produced in the best way possible with the best equipment and best use of skill specialization that the crew members posses.

• The ideologies of studio films tend to be more mainstream and even though our film is challenging to the mainstream and not following the convention it is still considered to have a mainstream appeal because we are drawing on the auteur style of David Fincher who is a popular mainstream director. This is why it is produced and distributed by fox.

MARKETINGS T U D I O F I L M

Page 8: Institutions

MARKETING OF A STUDIO FILM• Today the cost of above the line marketing of

a Hollywood movie is around 40 million dollars • However, studio films also use below the line

marketing using the Web 2.0 especially when their target audience are people until the age of 30 due to the fact that web 2.0 can only be accessed through converged devices which are mostly used my digital natives- people who are below 30

• Synergy Marketing is also done by some production companies due to cross-media convergence and tie-ins with other corporations

• The big studio films are marketed through saturated marketing as there are many movies that have had huge marketing campaigns through social media such as Gone Girl, Anchor Man 2 and many more. The Simpsons Movie however was done through social media but also through competitions with the prize of getting a cameo on the series and having convenience stores promoting the movie.
