With our long tradition of charity we have not succeeded in overcoming poverty in our time. Instead, it seems, the more we try, the more poverty is on the rise, as present statistics show. Some people are already drawn to ‘compassion fatigue’ – not wanting to give again because it doesn’t work. The students will examine the necessity of and the efficiency of our traditional pattern of charity and explore a possible alternative response.
