1 Introduction to the installation of Flexi BTS in a BS-241 II Service ShelterThis document provides instructions on how to install a Flexi BTS in a BS-241 II Service Shelter. The batteries (or other equipment) on the bottom of the BS-241cabinet is dis-assembled and replaced with an outdoor installation kit (FMUG), which consists a rack to which Flexi BTS modules are installed. The batteries are reinstalled at the upper part of the BS-241 II Service Shelter, above the Flexi BTS modules. There is space for a maximum of two 3U modules in the rack.

For supported Flexi WCDMA BTS configurations, see Appendix Flexi WCDMA BTS configurations in the Cabling Flexi WCDMA BTS and Creating Configurations document in Nokia Siemens Networks WCDMA RAN System Library.

The on-site activities include preparing the site and equipment, switching off the Node B, disassembling the unnecessary components, and installing and cabling Flexi BTS modules.

Before you start

• Refer to Flexi WCDMA BTS Installation Site Requirements for detailed information on installation prerequisites.

• Check all necessary hardware delivery contents. For the FMUG delivery, see Appendix Contents of the outdoor installation kit (FMUG) delivery.

• Check the antenna jumper cables to make sure that they are sufficiently long.

See the following figure for an overview of the BS-241 II Service Shelter.

5 Preparing Flexi BTS modules for BS-241 II Service Shelter installation.Changing the fan air flow direction for a plastic fan carrier

PurposeThe air flow direction of the Flexi BTS modules must be changed before installing the modules to a BS-241cabinet. The plastic fan carrier does not need to be removed but instead the fans can be flipped while the fan carrier remains in place.

To shorten the BTS downtime, this procedure can be performed in advance.

Steps

1 Remove the module core from the casing.

2 Remove the fan screws (four on each fan).

Figure 24 Removing the fan screws

3 Flip the fans upside down.Pay attention to the arrow markings on the fans. They show the air flow direction. Make sure that the arrows are pointing towards the back of the module.

6 Installing the Flexi rack inside BS-241 II Service ShelterBefore you startIf the temperature sensor is installed on the position sixteenth or lower from the bottom of the fixing bar, it needs to be relocated to position seventeenth or higher from the bottom of the right side of the fixing bar.

g Remove the fans from Flexi rack before the installation to improve installation speed.

Steps

1 Relocate the cage nuts to positions: fifth, tenth and fifteenth from the bottom on both sides of of the fixing bar.

Fix one additional cage nut on both sides. One to the fourth hole on the left and one to the eighteenth hole on the right.

2 Before installing Flexi rack to the BS-241 II Service Shelter, route the fan cables behind the fixing bar on the left side.

Figure 40 Routing the fan cables behind the fixing bar.

3 Remove two screws on the AD panel and pull it slighly out of the rack. Route the fan cables on the left side to the back of AD panel and connect them.

Push the AD panel back and fix it by two screws.

Fix the extra cable on the left side.

g If it is possible to remove the rear wall of the cabinet, then it is easier to route and fix the fan cables on rear side of AD panel.
