Covas, Department of Polymer Engineering, Universidade do Minho, Campus de AzurȖm, 4804-533, Guimar¼es, Portugal. E-mail: [email protected] Associate Editor for the Americas: Prof. Marianna Kontopoulou, Dept. of Chemi- cal Engineering, Dupuis Hall, 19 Division St., Queen’s University, Kingston, ON K7L3N6, Canada. E-mail: [email protected] Associate Editor for East Asia and Australia: T. Kajiwara, Department of Chemical Engi- neering, Kyushu University, 744 Motooka, Nishi-ku Fukuoka 819-0395, Japan. E-mail: [email protected] Submissions should now be done only by on- line manuscript submission system – Editorial Manager Ò . Please register yourself at the journal web site at http://ipp.edmgr.com. After Login into the system as an author you can upload your manuscript. The file format preference for text is MS Word (for our production system please specify ver- sion) and for figures and tables please use eps, tif or jpg. Figures and tables in Word, Power Point or Excel should remain as is. Other formats, for example Latex files, are ac- ceptable (please check on the ipp.edmgr.com main page the accepted file formats for the manuscripts). A PDF File will be created at the end of the sub- mission process. Please view and approve it to submit your manuscript to the journal office. We recommend to use the latest version of Adobe Reader. Papers which do not follow the instructions below may not be accepted for publication (or publication will be delayed). 2 Preparation of Papers The manuscript should be written in English and must be typed double-spaced throughout with margins of at least 2 cm on all sides. Authors should ensure that submitted manuscripts are written clearly and concisely and that they have been checked for spelling and grammar. The online manuscript submission system will ask you for the following information: short and concise title, name(s) and affiliation(s) of author(s), mailing and E-mail address for proofs, five (5) keywords. Abstract page: A short abstract (not exceed- ing 20 typewritten lines) is requested. References: References should be cited in the text using the following formats: 1. Single author: the author’s name (without initials, unless there is ambiguity) and the year of publication; 2. Two authors: both author’s names and the year of publication; 3. Three or more authors: first author’s name followed by ‘et al.’ and the year of publication. Citations may be made directly citing the author’s name with the year in parentheses or parenthetically with citations listed by author and year and separated by semi-colons. Groups of references should be listed first alphabetically, then chronologically for references with the same first author. Papers from the same first author published in the same year should be differentiated with the suffix a, b, c for each individual reference. Please add the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) of your cited refer- ence (see this page “example reference formats for journal”). Examples: “as previously discussed (Agas- sant, 1996a, 1996b, 1999; Agassant and Vergnes, 1995). White et al. (2000) have re- cently shown . . .” The references are compiled at the end of the manuscript in alphabetical order, all authors should be listed, the title of the paper or book cited is to be included and the volume number, starting and ending page numbers, and year of publication. All references must be accessible; citations of “submitted” or “in preparation” manuscripts are not acceptable. Personal communications should be cited in the text. They must have a short heading typed under the table. Figures: File formats should be eps, tif, or jpg. Colored figures can be done in the printed issue for a price of 100 e/unit (for five or more units: 490 e per article). For printed colored fig- ures please get into contact with the managing editor’s office after acceptance of your paper. Colored figures within the original manuscript will remain in the online version without costs. Units and Abbreviations: SI units are pre- ferred. If a large number of symbols is used, it is helpful if authors submit a list of these symbols and their meanings. Equations: Please type mathematical and chemical symbols, equations, and formulas. Unusual symbols should be identified in the margin the first time they are used. Number equations with Arabic numbers enclosed in pa- rentheses at the right-hand margin. Type super- scripts and subscripts clearly above or below the baseline. Be sure that all symbols, letters and numbers are distinguishable. Nomenclature should follow the IUPAC rules. Dimensions should be in accordance with SI units. Length of Papers: It is recommended that manuscripts be no longer than 15 double spaced pages and no more than 10 to 15 fig- ures plus tables. 3 Rapid Communications Short papers, typically 3 printed pages or less, that report preliminary results of original re- search representing important progress in poly- mer processing. Authors should indicate in their cover letter the reasons for accelerated review and publication. Target publication times would be on the order of 5 months or less. 4 Proofreading and Reprints Authors will receive galley proofs, which they should correct and return as soon as possible to the managing editorial office: Petra Thomas-Hasenzahl E-Mail: [email protected] Pdf-data-files for a short download from your web site or for E-mail use and/or run-on-prints, special reprints can be ordered at Carl Hanser Verlag, Petra Dregger, Kolbergerstraße 22, D-81679 Munich, Tel. 0049 89 99830-113, Fax 0049 89 99830-126, E-mail: [email protected] 6 Copyright Regulations for Authors The author is responsible for obtaining re- leases from other publishers for Hanser Pub- lishers to publish material copyrighted by someone else.
