In addition to what you viewed on the video shown on the previous slide, Virtual PC can be used to run virtually (no pun intended ) any Microsoft OS. This document is intended to show you how and as a requirement for preparing your Virtual Environment to use with your Lab Assignments.

Lets Get Started
To begin create a folder in your my document folder called My Virtual Machines and another folder called Downloads, these will be used for the rest of the installation (please note that the directory structure here and in future slides can be designed per your preference and this document contains only suggestions.)

Next open the My Virtual Machines Folder and create a folder called Microsoft Virtual PC Machines and if you have Sun Virtual Box Create another folder Called Sun Virtual Machines

Open either the Microsoft Virtual PC Machines or the Sun Virtual Box Machines folder and create separate folders for each virtual machine you wish to create

Now that we have completed creating the folders needed to download and install our software, lets go surfing and download the software. To do this we will visit a couple of sites.

Files and Websites Needed (32 or 64 bit depends on your Hardware)

After navigating to Instructor Achurras site you will see this screen

To begin select the ISO Folder on the left side of the screen

Click on the en_srv_2003_r2_standard_cd1file and click on download button making sure to save the file in the my documents download folder we created earlier

Repeat this process selecting the en_win_srv_2003_r2_standard_cd 2 file and click the download button again make sure to save the file in the my documents download folder we created earlier

Next we need to download the Virtual PC installation files. To do this click on MS Virtual PC Support Files on the left side of the screen.

Next choose either the Virtual PC 32 Setup or the Virtual PC 64 Setup file depending on whether your computer supports 32 bit or 64 bit software. After choosing the file click on the download button, making sure to save the file in the my documents/downloads folder created earlier

To create an account click on the sign in button in the upper right corner of the screen

Next, and unless you already have a Microsoft Live.com ID, click on the sign up link on the lower left side of the screen

If you have an email account choose the first option. If you do not have an email account choose the second option

Follow the instructions on screen to complete the registration process

Once again fill out the information requested on screen. Remember the stronger the password the better the safeguard against someone cracking it. Click Continue

Complete the information requested and click next to continue

Review and sign the agreement by clicking on I accept

• Congratulations you have successful created a Dream Spark Account
