INTRODUCTION

Project TitleConstruct 96 unit of Semi-detached houses and infrastructure.

The construction site visit was held on 19th November 2015 (Thursday). The site visit was leads by our Measurement 1 lecturer, Sr. Ang Fuey Lin and Construction Technology lecturer,

This assignment is to let us experience as a Quantity Surveyor when observing in the construction site. Due to this assignment, we can understand the basics of the construction process. We can see some mechanical plants and identify various types of buildings materials and construct technology on site.

CONTENT / TECHNICAL OBSERVATION

When we arrived the construction site, the consultants who in charge of our site visit greeted us. They were asking us to wear on the safety helmet and proper attire before going in to the site. One of the guy who is in charge of safety of the workers is very strict in supervise us about our safety. He does not let us enter to all the houses, it is because the houses are under construct and it is dangerous as some materials may be falling down from the roof.

~Two signs shows that there are dangerous in the construction site

~ Everyone of us is wearing proper attire with safety helmet. Going the site together with a class of people.

Construction Equipment and Machinery Plants

~ The Contractor briefing us some rules and regulations in the site. The most is about safety.

Crawler Excavator ~ used to dig the soil, trenching etc.

Road roller~used to compact soil, gravel, concrete, asphalt

~ The truck is sending another machinery to the site.

Backhoe Loader~ Provide superior digging, trenching, back-filling and material handling capability and can be used for many

Materials

~ Every scaffolding 1.5m height. It is a temporary structure to lift up the worker to build the building.

~ An equipment to mix the water, cement and aggregate together to form concrete (insitu concrete)

Temporary Work

Construct of Pad Footing

~ Temporary toilet in the construction site.

Step 1 – Excavate to reduce level

~ Temporary office for the Contractor and Consultant.

Step 2 – Pour a layer of lean concrete

Step 3 – Build the formwork and put on the reinforcement bar and concrete cover.

Step 4 – Erect the reinforcement bar for stumps

Step 5 – Add more formwork to make it ties.

Step 6 – Pour concrete in. Wait for the concrete become harden.

Conclusion

My personal experience to the site visit is act like a Quantity Surveyor in site. I have to observe the building structures, materials and etc. Through this site visit, I gain the safety knowledge in the construction site and how the pad footing to construct. I can surely understand some information what the lecturers taught during class by observation. We can see some heavy machinery and equipment in the construction site. We also did ask some questions to the consultant for additional knowledge.
