Science Fairs

1. Taiwan International Science Fair (TISF) & Select finalists to participate international science fairs, such as Intel ISEF, CWSF…• Grade 9-12 students• 15 countries, 493 students and 253 projects competing in 2011 TISF

2. National Primary & High School Science Fair (NPHSSF)• School fairs →Regional fairs→National fair (NPHSSF)• ~80,000 students and 20,000 projects participating in school fairs

every year

Top 3 Challenges

– Teaching practices do not support project based learning; conducting research is not part of the curriculum except very few schools with talent programs

– Schools focus on academic performance; low ratio of science fair participants compared to the total population of students.

– lacking research scientists or professional staffs to fully participate the implementation of STEM educational programs
