What is the Intel® Teach ProgramSkills for Success Course?

A professional development program designed for Information Communication Technology (ICT) teachers

• Prepares ICT teachers to implement a student curriculum that develops key 21st century learning skills with a focus on technology literacy, critical thinking, and collaboration

• Adapts key elements of the staff training and learner curriculum materials from the Intel® Learn Program

• Ideal for countries with a centralized computer model in school or computer lab environment

Intended Audience

ICT teachers who:

• Have the responsibility of teaching students computer skills in a centralized computer lab

• Are in need of a curriculum to be used as an enhancement to the existing materials

• Want to develop students’ 21st century skills and create a 21st century learning environment

Course Content: Student Curriculum

The main goal of the curriculum is to teach students:• Technology Literacy• Critical Thinking• Collaboration

The thematic content is as follows:

Unit 1: Technology and Community

Unit 2: Technology at Work

Students learn how to use their technology skills to improve their community.

Students learn how technology might be used at work.

Course Content: Student Curriculum

• To achieve the main goals, students collaborate and work in pairs to complete a series of activities following an iterative cycle of Plan, Do, Review, and Share.

• During each activity, students collaborate with peers to achieve a common goal, whether it be creating a flyer for a community event or creating a Web site for an entrepreneur’s new business.

• Each unit culminates with a final project where students use their technology literacy, critical thinking, and collaboration skills to solve a problem in their community or in the workforce.

Skills for Success shows teachers that effective learning environments promote 21st century skills. These core elements include:

Thematic Instruction

A set of exercises or activities that focus on a big idea or broad concept.

Relevance Content that is relevant to the context of students’ lives leads students to deeper engagement and deeper thinking.

Active Exploration

Students are better prepared to acquire and remember new information, strategies, or skills once they have spent time exploring a challenge or problem for themselves.

Choice of Autonomy

An environment that supports the development of 21st century skills provides students with a measure of choice in the activities they undertake, the strategies and tools they use, and the creative aspects of their plans, projects, or designs.

Cycles of Creation

Students’ ability to use technology effectively, think critically, and collaborate meaningfully with others takes place best within a cycle of generating and improving their work—in which students plan, execute, revise, reflect on, and share their insights about the product or solution they are developing.

Authentic Feedback

Students must assess their own work in relation to how well it serves the purposes for which it was intended. Receiving feedback helps students improve their work and develop their own critical perspective on it. Learning to give useful feedback to others also develops a student’s critical thinking and collaboration capacity.

Teacher as Facilitator

The teacher as a facilitator helps students actively build on their own strengths and incorporate their own interests into their work. (“Guide on the side.”)

Course Structure: Teacher Training

GoalThis course trains ICT teachers to deliver the course to students

Training model– 1 master trainer: 20 teachers– 2 teachers: 1 computer– 1 Teacher Book: 1 teacher– At least 3 Help Guides: 20 teachers

• Duration– Recommended implementation model: 3 ½ consecutive days (three 8-hour

days and one 4-hour day of instructional time + breaks/meal, for a total of 28 hours + homework)

– Some countries may desire to extend the training

• Upon completion, teachers will receive a certificate

Implementation Plan for Student Delivery

Two Plans

• Implementation Timeline– Complete both units in one year– Complete both units over two years, synchronizing the implementation

along with other MOE-approved curriculum

• Intel and ICT provide guidance for the plan that best suits each country

designed to help teachers successfully complete the training and serve as a future resource (as needed)

3. Appendix– Contains additional references and resources available for

teachers’ use
