Our legacy, reputa on and commitment to innova on say it all.
Lithonia Lighting, the leader in industrial lighting, has delivered high-quality, reliable lighting
solutions for 65 years. These solutions include high intensity discharge (HID), fl uorescent, induction
and now LED sources. When properly designed, LED systems offer improved optical control, energy
effi ciency and maintenance cycles over conventional technologies.
Lithonia Ligh ng has set the new standard in high bay ligh ng with the PROTEON™ LED luminaire.
SAVES ENERGY. 50% more effi cient than HID solutions. Occupancy sensors, photocells and digital controls (nLight®) provide additional energy savings.
REDUCES MAINTENANCE COSTS. Long-life LEDs and electronics offer a predicted useful life of more than 100,000 hours (L70).
SUPPORTS MULTIPLE APPLICATIONS. Capable of effectively lighting open areas and aisles with high mounting heights and a wide range of ambient temperatures.

Aluminum conducts heat three times
greater than steel making it the ideal
heat sink material. The PROTEON
LED fi xture uses an aluminum-
extruded housing weighing 22 lbs.
with more than 2500 square inches
of surface area. This robust heat
sink reduces the temperature of
electrical components and thermal
stress caused by frequent switching
that is common with occupancy
sensors. In addition, slots in the side
of the luminaire allow cooler air to
enter as warmer air escapes through
vents in the top of the luminaire.
THROUGH CONDUCTION AND CONVECTION heat is transferred away from temperature-sensitive components.
76
PROTEON is reliable. . . THERMAL MANAGEMENT is critically important to achieve the reliability expected from LED lighting.
Extreme temperatures, both hot and cold, are common in high bay environments and can have a negative
impact on the performance of electrical components. Using the most advanced computer modeling available,
our engineers incorporated metal only where it is most effi cient. They also used electronics that actively
respond to the environment providing optimal light output without sacrifi cing life. This fi xture intelligence
allows the PROTEON LED high bay to operate in a wide spectrum of temperatures ranging from -13°F (-25°C)
to 131°F (55°C), ensuring years of trouble-free operation.
. . . and accessible
Electrical components are securely mounted to a removable,
maintenance-friendly tray. Using pluggable connectors, this
sliding electrical tray can be disconnected from the LED
boards for quick removal.
Driver and surge protector are securely mounted to removable electrical tray.
Harnesses used extensively to connect drivers, LED boards, surge protector, sensor and primary power connection.
Dimming and emergency lighting leads located directly beneath access plate for easy location of auxiliary wires during installation.

LED BOARDS: High-brightness LEDs are driven at a conservative drive current (.35 max rating)
to achieve the highest lumens per watt with the least amount of heat possible.
Dynamic temperature-sensing feature continuously monitors board temperature and drive current to ensure LEDs and board components do not exceed rated temperature.
Optional emergency battery pack provides a minimum of 90 minutes of light during primary power failure.
Conformal-coated board protects electrical components from humidity and condensation.

PROTEON is effi cient . . .
To achieve optimal performance and reliability,
the PROTEON LED fi xture uses a custom light
engine specifi cally designed for the high-lumen
requirements of high bay lighting.
8
LED DRIVERS: Each LED driver operates with one LED board. This
allows the LED board to send signals to its unique driver to achieve peak performance.
Drivers operate from 120-277 volts standard. 347V and 480V options are available.
0-10V dimming leads are standard on each LED driver. Variable dimming range performs from 100% to 10%.
. . . and precise
ADVANCED OPTICS AND LED TECHNOLOGY produce unprecedented control of light distribution. Through the use of custom, highly effi cient refl ectors, the PROTEON LED fi xture delivers light precisely on task.
Four optical choices accommodate aisles or open spaces with mounting heights ranging from 15 to 40 feet.
Each refl ector is die-formed to ensure precise and consistent light distribution.
Refl ectors are made from premium Alanod® MIRO-SILVER®, specular aluminum with a minimum total refl ectance of 97%.
Distributions vary slightly by lumen package.

PROTEON is safe . . .
GLARE CONTROL should be considered in any lighting design to ensure the safety of those occupying the space. It is especially important in high bay applications where forklift operators or athletes must look toward the ceiling. The PROTEON LED fi xture comes standard with a semi-diffuse lens to reduce glare and LED image. For additional glare control, a highly diffuse lens is available.

INVESTMENT
PHOTOCELL CONTROL in AREAS WITH SKYLIGHTS Take advantage of natural daylight. Using preset light levels,
photocells can step down the light level of the PROTEON fi xture or turn it off entirely. Photocells are available
standalone or integrated into the occupany sensor.
12
INTEGRATED MODULAR PLUG (IMP)
Plug-and-play functionality of the IMP option allows external
sensors and photocells to be quickly added or removed
from a PROTEON LED high bay equipped with the optional
IMP receptacle.
EMBEDDED SENSORS 360° sensor shipped integrated into PROTEON LED high bay housing. No installation necessary.
Optional factory-installed controls offer additional energy savings and can extend the life of the PROTEON LED high bay. Fixture-level controls are reliable and ship from the factory to eliminate costly fi eld installation.
PROTEON is in control . . .
ZONAL NETWORK CONTROL OVER WORK AREAS USING nLight®
PROTEON LED is available with nLight enabled controls which facilitate remote confi gurability
of the fi xture over a CAT5 wired or WIFI wireless network. Grouping fi xtures, adjusting
dim levels, scheduling operation and monitoring status are just some of the advanced features
provided with nLight enabled fi xtures.
OCCUPANCY CONTROL PER FIXTURE in AISLEWAYSOccupancy sensors commonly reduce power consumption by more than 50% in a warehouse application. PROTEON LED offers several operational sequences once vacancy is detected:
Light turns off completely
Light dims to a fi xed low level
Light initially dims then completely turns off after an additional period of vacancy

Design considera ons . . .
Every application is uniquely different. That is why Lithonia Lighting engineers applied their years of application knowledge to create an extremely versatile fi xture capable of serving most every application with high ceilings. To get the most from your lighting, keep in mind the following design considerations. Consult your Lithonia Lighting representative for additional assistance in choosing the right PROTEON LED fi xture for your space.

Cost of ownership . . .
PROTEON LED high bay has a lower total
cost of ownership compared to conventional
HID high bays. The PROTEON fi xture uses less
energy to operate and is virtually maintenance
free so you can achieve a payback in only 2-4
years. This far outweighs the initial purchase
price of the fi xture. Add controls to maximize
your savings. The following charts illustrate
this payback based off of 24/7 operation and
$.10/Kwh. Maintenance costs have also been
included in the calculations at $80 per metal
halide lamp replacement.
