1 General
1.1 Brief Description
The RMG12.2-NN gateway module permits data to be exchangedbetween two physically independent INTERBUS rings. In each ring, theRMG12.2-NN appears as a remote bus slave device with a selectabledata width between one and ten words. The redundant structure of thepower supply of the RMG12.2-NN unit provides the following benefits:
• The power supply units are isolated from each other.
• The RMG12.2-NN always starts its operation, irrespective of the powersupply that is actually applied.
• Both rings can be started up independently of each other.
• Interruption-free automatic changeover to the functioning secondpower supply unit if a power supply fails during the simultaneousoperation.
1.2 Selecting the Data Word Width
A 16-step rotary switch (S1) on the front panel of the gateway modulepermits the module’s data word width to be selected.

1.3 Installation Instructions
The RMG12.2-NN unit can be installed in an RMB12.2-02 or RMB12.2-04rack. Using the brackets provided and a DIN rail, the module can bemounted directly onto the mounting plate of a switchgear cabinet.

General information about addressing
In order to be able to address the devices in the INTERBUS systemdirectly, each device has an unambiguous address assigned. In addition,each INTERBUS module possesses an identification code (ID code) thatshows the connected configuration unambiguously.
2.2 Addressing
Local bus device: DI/DO
ID code: 03(HEX) = 03(DEC)
Data width: 1 - 10 words = 16 bits

2.3 Redundant Power Supply
The power to the gateway module is supplied via the two connectorsX5and X6 (X5 has priority). The power supply connected to X5 feeds thegateway module when both power supplies are connected. The powersupply via X6 is selected if the power at X5 drops. The electroniccomponents do not notice any interruption during the switchover process.
The diagram below shows the method of operation:

2.5 Diagnosis Indicators
There are four LEDs and one 7-segment display on the RMG12.2-NNfront panel. These indicator elements are explained below:
INTERBUS diagnostics
UL LED green Supply voltage for the module electronics
ON: UL supply voltage OK
OFF: UL supply voltage is missing
RC LED green Remotebus Check
Monitoring the incoming remote bus (X3)
ON: Incoming remote bus connection is established
OFF: Incoming remote bus connection is disturbed

ON: Data transfer on the INTERBUS is active
OFF: No data transfer

System diagnostics
When the power to the gateway module is switched on, the diagnosismessages shown below are displayed in succession for approximately 2... 3 seconds.
A steady "b" = operational is displayed if system is running and stable.
In the event of a malfunction, the display blinks and indicates the faultyINTERBUS ring.

- "S" is displayed as a start character during the startup phase.
- When the system is running, the selected data word width (here: 7) is displayed briefly.
- In the event of a system error in the 1st INTERBUS-S ring, "0" is displayed aserror message.
- Once the data word width has been displayed, the display changes to "b". (= operational)
- In the event of a system error in the 2nd INTERBUS-S ring, "1" is displayed aserror message.

2.6 Activating/De-activating I/O Error Message
An error message is available that reports the failure of an INTERBUSdevice. It provides a mutual I/O error message in the event of a failure ofan INTERBUS branch. The error message can be activated and de-activated as required.
The switch for activating/de-activating the error messages is accessiblethrough an opening in the enclosure at the rear of the RMG12.2-MMmodule. The I/O error message is active when the slide switch is in itsbottom position (see Figure below).

3 Applications
3.1 Addressing
The absolute address of an INTERBUS device results automaticallyfrom its physical location in the ring. Deviating from this, the user canassign each module a logical address between 1 and 999 via the SPSinterface. Both devices on a gateway module need not necessarily havethe same logical address assigned.
