O’ CANTEEN INTERIOR DESIGN PROJECT – LONDON - 2015

This concept of an Interior Design Project mixes two different kind of design: retro and vintage with modern and contemporary style. Furnishings and Interior Design reminiscent of the period of the ‘50s, It was the age of the consumer.

THE KEY FEATURES OF THE FURNISHINGS ‘50S ARE: - Coatings with colors and patterns - Use of primary colors (red, white, black, yellow and blue) - Make usual something unusual - Division in its spaces through glass screens - Lighting environments with direct light (not glow) This interior redevelopment divides the internal environment through a glass wall partition between the kitchen and the reception area. The internal partition will be formed by an aged black iron frame and from a dark mirrored glass (smoked) so as to filter the light in the kitchen and at the same time prevent customers from seeing beyond the glass. This also will give depth to the room.

Both sides of the room are a row of painted white pallets with pots of aromatic plants hanging over them; even this solution has been designed to impart a feeling of depth to the environment. Entering on the right, will be arranged three half whiskey barrels each of which will be the exhibition stand of the three restaurants, with their logos and menus. This area will function like waiting area as well. The barrels are made of old oak with iron rims. On the left there will be a long shelf with stools to sit and eat on site. This will be the product of an extension of the counter’s top. The latter will be covered with black and white cementine tiles 20x20cm forming a sort of disconnected puzzle, to give a strong character to the environment. Lighting plays a key role in the internal environment. Ambient lighting will be differentiated by the intensity of the light bulbs.

There will be so: eleven large warm light bulbs over the counter; six points of light in the room made by hanging chandeliers with five warm light bulbs medium intensity; a twocolor neon behind the counter (yellow and orange); a neon sign outside made up sixty bulbs in series alternating yellow and orange, with the backlighted logo stright in the center. The aged american oak planks is used for floor covering, counter top, shelf and block over the counter. This type of wood gives a strong character to the environment, the neutral color will contrast perfectly with cement tiles and the walls’ colors. The walls will be painted with aged Marmorino Venetian Plaster. The chosen color is Titian red, which gives warmth to ‘environment. Anyway the neutral colors of the interior allow the use of a wide range of colors including turquoise, avion, the dove-gray, orange.
