December 2015

Syria is one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a child. For more than four years, children there have been suffering the long-term effects of war and trauma. For children whose families have fled their home countries to escape violence, life as refugees is most often one of poverty and instability.

For some from Christian families, faith in Jesus has put their lives in danger and brought persecution.

This year’s NCM Christmas Project will provide education and support for these children. Through the support found at our Nazarene schools, and through our missionaries in the countries where these refugees are struggling to find a place to go, we can help them find SAFETY, STABILITY, and HOPE. If you choose to give a gift of hope this year, it is very easy to do. Go online to ncm.org and see for

Nazarene Compassionate Ministries 2015 CHRISTMAS PROJECT

HELP FOR REFUGEE CHILDREN in CRISIS

Something happens in our so-ciety when people turn their eyes toward others and focus their hearts on giving. It’s as if we take a break from the

self-centeredness that drives us and give in to the hope and dream that ‘peace on earth and good will toward our fellow human beings’ really is a good thing. No wonder people like to call this ‘the most wonderful time of the year’.

As people who celebrate the ‘Christ’ of Christmas we are drawn to the awareness

that His coming initiates something far more than a ‘seasonal anomaly’. In the ‘Word becom-ing flesh and dwelling among us’ God has initiat-ed the dawn of His New Kingdom. As the story of Jesus reflects, this Kingdom is focused not on the ‘high and mighty’ but the ‘meek and lowly’.

Rather than celebrating ‘power and achieve-ment’ it values ‘humility and service’. Here is a Kingdom which turns the world’s way of think-ing upside down and focuses its attention on ‘loving God and loving others’.

The amazing thing regarding the Christmas story is that we are not just invited to look

from afar and embrace this kingdom’s values, but we are called to be transformed by the power of the King. In Christ, we can have a heart that re-flects His very nature every day of the year.

So celebrate the coming of the Savior this year with great joy and rejoice in the fact that He

has come that we may become like Him. May you experience the mirAcLeofchriSTmAS!
