Walker Middle Magnet is now officially an Authorized IB School. W alker opened its doors with solid mission and vision statements - Mission: Empowering students to take what they have learned and use it to make the world a better place; Vision: Equipping internationally minded students through rigorous, service based learning in an atmosphere of creativity, inquiry, and fun. T he International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme at Walker Middle Magnet focuses on student-centered learning, service learning, international mindedness, holistic learning and is academically rigorous. These core concepts coupled with a focus on learning between subjects provide access to a global learning community. S tudents at Walker Middle Magnet have the opportunity to take seven high school credit courses. These courses are Algebra I, Geometry, Introductory Physical Science, Spanish I, French I, Principles of Food Preparation, and Nutrition and Wellness. Magnet School of Distinction • Florida “A” School; 1997-2014 • Five Star School • Future Business Leaders of America • Students at Walker have placed regionally in math league competitions, both individually and as a group Students in some classes are pen pals with students around the world • Aligning with a school wide novel study of the book A Long Walk to Water, students are holding a fund raiser to sponsor the building of wells in Sudan Some Walker students partner with local animal shelters by creating pieces of art to auction as a benefit for these shelters • Walker Symphonic Orchestra and Symphonic Band received superior ratings at Music Performance Assessment Autism Awareness Walk-A-Thon Cluster undefeated 2013-2014 volleyball team • 2014 soccer county champions September 2014
