It’s time to give your class a research project, but the school library may not have sufficient resources. No problem, your students go to the internet first anyway. But how much do they know about locating and evaluating
good, relevant sources? Can they use the net safely? Do they know how to use that information ethically? In this workshop designed for Middle and Secondary classroom teachers and librarians, we will be looking at how to keep students safe while using the net, how to use Boolean operators with search engines to locate a reasonable number of relevant sources quickly, the criteria for evaluating those sites, some Web tools for organizing the information and finally how to cite the information that they find.
Audience: Middle and Secondary School Teachers and Librarians
12 Managing the School Library: Policies and ProceduresMrs. Connie Hadba Acting Head librarian Miss Rola Sakr, Librarian

In this workshop, we will be discussing the policies and procedures (job descriptions, library scheduling and circulation policies, collection development and budgeting…etc.) needed for running a school library.

Using the Macro, Sub-Micro, and Symbolic Approach to Design Figures and Activities for Chemistry TeachingMr. Saadeddine Shehab Secondary School
February 2, 20138:30 – 14:00
Chemical representations can be categorized in three equivalent types: (1) macro representations that describe the bulk observable properties of matter; (2) submicro representations that provide explanations at the particulate level; (3) symbolic representations that involve the use of chemical symbols to
represent matter. The simple presence of such representations in figures does not ensure that they sufficiently support students’ understanding. Moreover, when they do not fulfill certain requirements, they may cause misconceptions. This workshop focuses on the requirements that chemical representations should fulfill in textbooks in order to enhance conceptual understanding. Moreover, this workshop will engage chemistry teachers in designing figures and activities that may help students understand the macro, sub-micro, and symbolic level of chemistry.
