SURFACE ENGINEERING is a multidisciplinary activity intended to tailor the properties of the surfaces of engineering components so that their function and serviceability improves viz: Improved corrosion resistance through barrier or sacrificial protection. Improved wear resistance, Improved mechanical properties for enhanced fatigue or toughness and Improved aesthetic appearance. These properties can be enhanced metallurgically, mechanically, chemically, or by adding a coating. Various processes employed include Weld overlay, Thermal spraying, Diffusion Transformation hardening, Surface alloying—laser cladding, chemical vapor deposition & Physical vapor deposition etc

These techniques find application in a wide spectrum of industry in Areospace, Automotive, Oil & Gas, Power (Nuclear, Hydro, Thermal, Gas) and Heat Exchangers & Pressure Vessel Sectors. The one day Inter-National Conference will focus on the above subjects and provide a platform to the leading MNCs active in the field as also R&D Institutions and wide spectrum of user industry to share the developments, latest trends & equipment Experts from Oerlikon Metco, Praxair, Hoganas, Mitsubishi Alloys, Fuji Metals and Metallising Equipment etc will participate along with end user industry in Power, Aviation, Oil & Gas, Nuclear, PV & HE sectors. Service providers like Andritz Hydro, Ador Fontech, MEC, IPM, L&T EWAC, Anode Plasma, ASP, Tocalo/ATS, Assomec etc. will also participate & enrich the knowledge exchange.

This conference is intended to provide a thorough understanding on surface characteristics and surface modification technologies. Main Objective of this conference is to disseminate knowledge in the following industrially important areas:

• Innovations in coating for power plants (Hydro, Gas, Nuclear etc.)• New global trends in boiler and condenser tubes for corrosion/erosion resistance • Graded coatings • Laser Cladding• Thermal spraying Applications• Surface preservation and protection technologies• Reclamation / Hard Coating in rolls for Steel, Sugar, Paper & Pulp Industries

It will also provide a forum for the end user industry to discuss their special requirements with the experts on the above subjects.

The Indian Welding Society‐IWS

With its Regd.office in Delhi, IWS is a National Professional Body engaged in advancement of Welding Technology. It is registered under the Registrar of Societies Act. The major objectives of the Society are as under:

• Promote the advancement of science and practice of welding• Act as a forum for exchange of knowledge and information in welding sciences, cutting, hard facing and

allied technology.• Provide consultancy to industries on welding.• Provide education and training.

IWS serves its members and industries through, North, South, West and Central Zones with head quarters at Delhi, Tiruchirappalli, Mumbai and Bhopal respectively. The area within each zone is served by various local centers, presently fifteen.

IWS has international affiliations with many welding associations ‐ institutions world over

IMPORTANT ACTIVITIES OF IWS

• IWS is organising ‐ every two years ‐ International Welding Conferences and exhibitions of Welding and Cutting Products with Messe Essen, DVS, and MDI since 2003.

• IWS is working with Asian Welding Federation on knowledge exchange and schemes to train welders as per AWF common welding certification system.

• IWS has strategic MoU with leading institutions for providing training to welders all over the country using infrastructure of such institutions and Faculty/ Knowledge of IWS.

• IWS (SZ) has provided welder training to school dropouts in interiors and IWS (NZ) has carried out similar programs in North East through IGNOU.

• IWS along with Annamalai University provides Distance Learning Engineering Programme in welding technology.

• IWS, through its zones & centres conducts short term course for welding & QC Personnel regularly for updating their knowledge base
