What is IFMA? The International Facility Management Association (IFMA) is the world’s largest and most widely recognized international association for professional facility managers, supporting over 22,000 members in 78 countries. IFMA has 127 chapters and 16 industry councils worldwide, with members that manage more than 37 billion square feet of property and purchase more than $100 billion in products and services annually. Formed in 1980, IFMA certifies facility managers, conducts research, provides educational programs, recognizes facility management certificate programs and produces World Workplace, the world’s largest facility management conference and exposition.

About IFMA New York City The New York City Chapter of IFMA is currently in its 30th year of operation. Since its formation in 1983, IFMA NYC has been committed to the guidance and advancement of the professional development of its members throughout their careers with support in certification, networking, education and research. Currently, the New York City Chapter of IFMA is comprised of over 700 members, dedicated to maintaining the Chapter as the premier association in the New York City area for the advancement of all work place professionals.

IFMA Professional Credential ProgramIFMA provides three different professional credentials: Facility Management Professional (FMP), Sustainability Facility Professional (SFP) and Certified Facility Manager (CFM). IFMA identified the key elements within the role of facility management and developed standardized tests to gauge levels of competencies amongst facility managers. All materials for testing are developed and standardized by the national office of IFMA in order to maintain the integrity of each credential. These credentials are acknowledged throughout the industry and are awarded to individuals who’ve passed the necessary tests. Both national and local chapters of IFMA provide support through study sessions, review courses and even Continuing Education Units through local colleges to assist interested facility managers in achieving their accreditation.
