Individual lessons in technique and musical interpretation: All students will receive from their professors a minimum of five lessons lasting 60 minutes each, during which they will develop their instrumental technique and work on two or three works of their own choice. Classes will be given in the morning and afternoon starting at 9.30. The maximum of students for each professor shall be 10.Chamber Music lessons: all students that choose this option in the enrolment form will be part of chamber music groups, under the direction of one of the professors of the course (a list of works will be posted on our website shortly).The students will choose those pieces they would like to work from the list posted in our website, which must be specified in the enrolment form in order of preference (we advise to bring your own parts).When, in the professor’s judgement, the group or student has prepared its chosen work sufficiently, it will be performed at a public concert. In case the number of participants outnumbers the expectations, there will be an audition prior to the concerts, in any case thedirector of the course will take the final decision.

The course will begin on 18 August and will end on the 26 August with the students’ concert. The day of arrival to the accommodation is 17 August, and the day of departure is the 27 August in the morning, before 12.00.The application fee (130 euros) has to be transferred at the time of application, the 270 euros of the tuition fee no later than 28 July.

Students applying as part of a chamber music group only pay one inscription fee regardless of the number of musicians. All students are advised to bring the scores for works they wish to work upon individually (piano parts included). Also they will be in charge of carrying their own insurance. All students can add a second instrument at a price of 125 euros.

CATALIN BUCATARUviolinCatalin Bucataru made his solo debut at the age of ten winning the First Prize at the Festival Cintarea Romaniei and at fourteen won the First Prize at the Concurso del Festival Internacional de Jóvenes Orquestas de Murcia.In 1992 he became member of the Euskadi Symphony Orchestra and in 1996 won the First Prize at the Concurso Internacional de Música de Cámara Ciudad de Manresa.He has played at many important Spanish Festivals such as Quincena Musical de San Sebastian, Ciclo de Música Contemporánea de Málaga and Temporada de Música de Cámara de Bilbao.He has worked with different ensembles: Cuarteto ïndigo, Cuarteto Cadem, Cuarteto Gala, Quinteto Neofusión, Camerata Cambrensis and Kuraia.Since 2001 he is violin teacher at the Basque Conservatoire “MUSIKENE” San Sebastian and he is regularly invited to give masterclasses all across Spain.

NATHANIEL VALLOISviolin

Nathaniel Vallois was born in Paris and later studied in Israel and in London. His teachers included Miriam Solovieff, Yair Kless, Itzhak Rashkovsky and Ruggiero Ricci, and he has drawn much inspiration from his association with the great American violinist Camilla Wicks. The recipient of many prizes and awards, he has concertized extensively as soloist and chamber musician, including many concerto and recital appearances in London’s main venues and across Britain. He has performed concertos by Bartók, Beethoven, Berg, Brahms, Britten, Bruch, Dvorak, Glazunov, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Shostakovich, Sibelius, Tchaikovsky and Walton. He was a founder member of the London Archduke Piano Trio and performs with many chamber music groups.He is the Senior Violin Teacher and Lecturer at the Birmingham Conservatoire, and is on the violin and chamber music staff at the Purcell School of Music. As well as being regularly invited to play and teach in music courses and festivals in Britain, he has performed, broadcast and given masterclasses in the U.S.A, France, Germany, Spain, Israel, Romania, Turkey, South Africa. In 2014 he gave a tour of recitals and masterclasses in China, and performed and taught in Brazil.Nathaniel’s recordings include a recital CD of French music entitled Beau Soir and a CD of chamber music by Hugh Wood on Toccata Classics, which was awarded 5 stars by the BBC Music Magazine. He has a great interest in historical artists and recordings, is a regular contributor to The Strad magazine and consultant for record companies.

LEO DE NEVEviola

Leo de Neve began his studies (already at a very young age) under the guidance of Kati Sebestyen at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and later with Bruno Giuranna in Berlin and Ervin Schiffer in Tilburg.For 16 years he was the 1st Principal Viola in ‘deFilharmonie’ in Antwerp and in ‘La Monnaie-Opéra’ in Brussels.As promotor of his instrument he is a constant source of inspiration for contemporary composersand premiered works by Celis, Henderickx and Shegmans.He is also a member of the ‘Spiegel String Quartet’ www.spiegelstringquartet (in Residence - Royal Conservatory in Antwerp) and the ‘Arpae Ensemble’ www.arpae.be (flute, viola, harp). With these ensembles as well as soloist he performs regularly in Europe, Asia and South Africa.He has recorded many CDs with works by Chausson, Lekeu, Schubert, Debussy, Bartok, Schumann, Janacek, Jongen, Scarlatti… for many labels: MDG, Naxos, Marco Polo, Phaedra, Megadisc, Vox Temporis, …Because teaching is very important to him, he gives masterclasses (Europe, Japan...) and he is professor ‘viola’ and coordinator ‘lower strings’ at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp (Artesis University), where he likes to give his knowledge and experience as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral musician at the service of upcoming young musicians. He is playing a beautiful italian D. Techler (Rome 1702) viola.

ISABEL VILLANUEVAviola

Isabel Villanueva, is one of the best violists of the new generation. She is valued for her expression and sensibility as well as for her passion and commitment to promote the viola as an instrument with its own voice. She has performed recitals and concerts through Europe, Middle-East and Russia in prestigious venues including the Grand Hall of St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Wigmore Hall in London, Slovenian Philharmonic Hall in Ljubljana, Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona, Estonia Concert Hall in Tallinn or Roudaki Hall in Tehran. She has been invited to perform in festivals as Pablo Casals Festival in Prades, Santander Festival or LegeArtis Festival in Austria. Her performances have been broadcasted live for RNE Spain, TVE, Catalunya Musica, RTV Slovenia, Estonia Klassika Raadio, Swiss RTV and TV Russia ‘Kultura’.Isabel Villanueva has performed as a soloist a wide range of viola concertos by J.C.Bach, Haendel, Mozart, Hoffmeister, Bruch, Weber, Britten, Hindemith, Bartók, Walton, Gubaidulina, Olivero with the RTVE Symphony Orchestra, Moscow Soloists, Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, ‘New Russia’ State Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León, Glasperlenspiel Sinfonietta of Tallinn, among others. Chamber music partners include Andrea Lucchesini, Martti Rousi, Michaël Levinas, Daniel Schnyder, Trio Arbós or Quartetto di Cremona.

NABÍ CABESTANYcello/chamber music

Nabi Cabestany is active in many facets and styles, his work focuses on chamber music performances which has led him to give concerts throughout Europe, Japan and United States with musicians such as James Campbell or Christian Zacharias. Some of his concertshave been radio and television broadcasted.His recordings are with ensembles ranging from duo with piano to solo performance with orchestra. He has given several recitals of solo cello, which extends the dedication to contemporary music. As a soloist he has premiered works by Joaquim Homs, Xavier Benguerel, Benet Casablancas, Xavier Pagès, Voro Garcia. He has recorded a number of CDs of Spanish composers.Born in Barcelona, he began his music training at the Montserrat Boys Choir. At the University of Arts in Berlin he graduated as student of Prof. Wolfgang Boettcher following a Postgraduate Education and Interpretation degree at the Royal Academy of Music in London. He earned the prestigious Artist Diploma from Indiana University where he studied with Janos Starker with a grant from “la Caixa” foundation. He received Honor Prize at the Maria Canals International Competition in Barcelona.Founding member of the “Barcelona Barroc”, an early music ensemble which performs with various combinations, he developed his passion for music and it led him to perform baroque cello at festivals in the United States, Portugal, France, Spain, Holland and Costa Rica.As an orchestral musician he has collaborated with the Symphony Orchestra of the Bavarian Radio (Munich) served as assistant principal of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, Youth Orchestra of the European Union (EUYO).

ALEXANDER BAILLIEcello

Alexander Baillie is internationally recognised as one of the finest cellists of his generation. He began playing the cello at the comparatively late age of twelve having been directly inspired by the late Jacqueline du Pré. He wenton to study at London’s Royal College of Music and with André Navarra in Vienna.He has appeared with many British orchestras and has worked with Sir Simon Rattle, Sir John Eliot Gardiner and has appeared regularly as cello soloist in concertos, recitals and festivals throughout the world. He has given notable first performances of works by Penderecki, Hans Werner Henze, Takemitsu, Colin Matthew and H.K.Gruber. Recordings include the Tippett Triple Concerto with the composer conducting and the Shostakovich First Concerto with Benjamin Zander and the Boston Philharmonic.His version of the Britten Cello Suites achieved the highest acclaim in the New York press. He features in the film “Dvorak...who?” about the motivation for young people falling in love with classical music. Together with pianist partner James Lisney he has been promoting theBeethoven Project in England and Germany.He is Professor of Cello at the Hochschule für Künste, Bremen and founder member of “Gathering of the Clans” Cello School.

ALBERT NIETOpiano

Albert Nieto holds a doctorate of the University of Valencia with his research about Francisco Llácer Plá. Su obra pianística: Un piano sugerente.His piano career, especially dedicated to Spanishand contemporary music, has made him obtain the recognition of the public and critics.On the research side he has also addressed thisrepertoire, and proof of this is the recent publication of his critical edition of Isaac Albéniz’sIberia, which has been accompanied by the recording of some of his pieces and has been highly praised by critics.Albert has performed with orchestras such as the Symphonic of Barcelona, Balearic Islands, Bilbao, Vallés, Belgrade, Antwerp; and with musicians such as Joan Enric Lluna, Jaime Martin, François Monciero and Asier Polo, Santiago Juan and Victor Parra. He is a founding member of Trio Gerhard.He has performed at festivals such as the Quincena Musical of San Sebastian, Santander, Granada, Peralada, Bordeaux, Fundación Juan March and Musée Marmottan Monet in Paris and has premiered over seventy works by Spanish composers.Albert Nieto is regularly invited to give courses by other Music Academies and centers for teacher training. He currently is professor at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Castilla-La Mancha.

CHARLES WIFFENpiano/chamber music

Charles Wiffen is Head of the Department of Music and Associate Dean of Music and Performing Arts at Bath Spa University and previously lectured at the Royal College of Music where he was Grove Research Fellow from 1998 to 2004. He has also taught at Trinity College of Music in London, and regularly performs and gives masterclasses at Dartington International Summer School and at Festival/Curso Internacional de Musica Vitoria-Gasteiz in Spain.Born in London, Charles has performed as a pianist extensively throughout the UK, as well as further afield in France, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Germany, the USA, Israel, China, Taiwan, Japan and Africa. He has given recitals in London’s Wigmore Hall and Purcell Room, and in Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall, and his festival appearances have included the Arundel, Brighton, Bath, BBC Proms, Buckingham, Chelsea and Warwick Festivals. He has also performed in the Park Lane Group series in London and was selected by the late Isaac Stern to perform in ‘Jerusalem Encounters’. Charles has broadcast for BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM and has recorded several CDs for labels includingToccata Classics. He is a member of the LondonArchduke Trio and Contemporary Consort.Charles studied at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, and at the Royal College of Music in London. His teachers included Maria Curcio and Yonty Solomon and he has had lessons and masterclasses from Emanuel Ax and Yefim Bronfman. He also played in chamber music classes for Isaac Stern and Yo-Yo Ma. Awards include the Oude Meester Music Prize, the Jim Joel Prize and the Marjorie and Arnold Ziff Memorial Prize.

ARNO PITERSclarinet

Arno Piters studied clarinet and E-flat clarinet with Jan Cober and Willem van der Vuurst at the Maastricht Conservatory, where he earned an honours diploma. He then went on to study with George Pieterson at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and was again awarded an honours diploma.Piters was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of the Netherlands, the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester and the European Union Youth Orchestra, where he performed under such conductors as Pierre Boulez, Bernard Haitink and Vladimir Ashkenazy.He has made solo appearances with the Residentie Orchestra and the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra, among others. As a chamber player, he has performed at festivals both in and outside the Netherlands.Piters was a member of the Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra from 2001 to 2003. He was subsequently appointed as clarinettist and E-flat clarinettist with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam.He teaches at the conservatories in Amsterdam.

GABRIELLA DALL’OLIOharp

Gabriella Born in Bologna, studied in Italy, France and Germany with Pierre Jamet and Fabrice Pierre, Jaqueline Borot, Giselle Herbert and Anna Loro. Now based in London, she continues to follow an international and high profile career performing and teaching the harp.Captivating audiences around the globe her critically acclaimed recordings span solo, chamber and orchestral works on the Claves, Koch, Stradivarius, Dal Segno and Ambitus labels, and she has also made many live recordings for French, German, Italian and Swiss Radio. Her wide and varied repertoire covers most solo, concertos, chamber music repertoire as well as orchestral works (symphonic, operatic and ballet).Internationally active as a soloist and chamber musician, Gabriella has given recitals and concerts throughout Europe, USA, the Far and Middle East. She also freelances with some of the most outstanding UK and European orchestras: the Vienna Philharmonic, Vienna State Opera, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonia, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the English Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, and the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Conductors she works with include Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Mariss Jansen, Valery Gergiev, Simon Rattle, Lorin Maazel, Sir Colin Davis, Antonio Pappano, Bernard Haitink, Segei Osawa and Esa Pekka Salonen amongst countless others.

ANNA NOAKESflute

Anna Noakes has performed concerts with major London Orchestras as well as giving recitals, as both soloist and chamber musician, at the at Wigmore Hall, Purcell Room, BBC Radio 3 recitals, many National and International Festivals and numerous CD recordings. Most recently, Anna has recorded the JM Damase Flute Concerto with BBC Concert Orchestra, which is due for release in May 2014. She works closely with duo partners Gabriella D’all Olio, Harp and John Alley and Leo Nicholson, Piano Composers such as Martin Yates, Cecilia McDowall, Dominique Le Gendre, Elgar Howath and Simon Holt have been inspired to write for her.Anna broadcasts for BBC Radio3 and Classic FM and works as Guest Principal Flute with the English Chamber Orchestra, City of London Sinfonia, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Opera House Orchestra, English National Opera, Philharmonia, Briitten Sinfonia, Northern Sinfonia, Academy of St. Martins in the Fields and New London Orchestra. She now spends a great deal of her time recording music for Film and TV, playing film scores by composers that include John Williams, David Arnold, James Horner, John Powell, Harry Gregson Williams, Howard Shore, Danny Elfman, Alberto Inglesias, Craig Armstrong, Elmer Bernstein, Michael Giaccomo, Alan Silvestri and Hans Zimmer in films such as Harry Potter, James Bond, Shrek, Narnia, Bridget Jones, Love Actually, How to Train your Dragons, Lord of the Rings, Les Miserables, Volver, Sleepy Hollow, Da Vinci Code to name but a few.

ANA CREXELLSpiano accompanist

Anna Crexells completed her piano studies at Conservatorio Superior del Liceo in Barcelona and later in Italy and Switzerland.She has dedicated her career to her passion: repertoire with singers, and also with instrumentalists. She has a wide experience as repertorist, having colaborated in numerous masterclasses in Spain, France and Switzerland together with renowed Teresa Berganza, Jaume Aragall, Jaime Martín or Vicenç Prats.She is official pianist at the International Singing Competition Tenor Viñas, the Sabadell Opera and at the Conservatorio Superior de Música del Liceo in Barcelona. She often colaborates with the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and the National Young Orchestra from Catalonia. As a recitalist she has performed in festivals such as at the Schubertíada de Vilabertrán or the International Festival Porta Ferrada.

MARÍA ÁNGEL GARCÍApiano accompanist

María Ángel García was born in Yecla (Murcia). She had already achieved an impressive artistic career. She has won first prizes in well renown national and international piano competitions.She has performed to critical acclaim in numerous concerts and solo recitals in Spain, Portugal, England, Germany, Austria and the United States. She performs regularly for prestigious Festivals and Workshops in Spain and England.Maria Angel lives in Bath, U.K and shares her concert a concert carrier with teaching.Since 2007 she teaches piano in Bath Spa University and also accompanies for many Festivals, Masterclasses, Competitions and Choirs.
