SUMMER BOARDING COURSESSummer Boarding Courses provides residential summer schools in Oxford and Bournemouth for students aged 8-17 from around the world.

We are pleased to welcome students from across the globe each year, providing a truly international and cosmopolitan environment. Students can learn and develop as individuals, make new friends and learn from different cultures around the world.

The EducationImmersive English Language Learning

Our summer programmes help students to develop their English language skills, both in and out of the classroom. Excursions, project work and presentations help to develop their confidence and use of English in real life situations. By limiting the number of students that speak the same language across our summer schools, students are also better able to communicate with each other in English.

We work with some of the most prestigious boarding schools and Oxford University campuses to provide fantastic residential summer school experiences, in the cities of Oxford and Bournemouth, for students from around the world. SBC OXFORD (AGES 8-12)

Academic ProgrammeTaught by professionally qualified teachers, all students receive 15 hours of English lessons per week. Our classrooms provide a fun and comfortable environment for our young students to learn in. SBC Oxford students can choose from:

Social ProgrammeStudents can enjoy a varied and fun multi-activity programme, with a range of activities in the afternoon and evenings, including; sports, arts & crafts, whole school events and discos.

General EnglishFor all levels, from beginners to advanced, our General English lessons focus on improving vocabulary, grammar, reading, writing, listening and speaking in English through communicative and varied activities and projects.

Multi ActivitiesThe afternoon Activity Programme takes place over 5 afternoons each week. During these afternoon sessions, students will experience an engaging range of team games, sporting activities and artistic and creative craft activities.

Junior Summer StudyFor students with an upper intermediate or advanced level of English, this communicative course focuses on improving English language skills through interesting and engaging subjects, including History, Science, Literature and Creative Writing.

All SBC Oxford students participate in our Time to Shine lessons twice weekly, which include a series of dynamic, interactive challenges for students to complete in teams. Through these lessons students can develop skills in communication, collaboration and creativity in a practical setting, all whilst having fun.

English Plus+ CoursesStudents can also choose English Plus+ courses on 2 afternoons per week for an additional cost. Options include: Intensive English Speaking, Intensive English Writing, Adventure Sports, Horse Riding, Drama and Art & Design.

ExcursionsAll our students enjoy 2 day trips each week, visiting cultural sites as well as more light-hearted attractions. Locations include: Legoland, Warwick Castle, Bristol and Whipsnade Zoo.

ExcursionsStudents go on 2 full-day excursions each week to some of the UK’s best historic, cultural and entertaining sites. Locations include: London, Oxford, Windsor and Chessington Zoo.

Social ProgrammeOur Headington social programme comprises a range of engaging activities in the afternoon and evenings tailored specifically for teenagers.

General EnglishFor students from an elementary to advanced level, General English enables students to develop their vocabulary and grammar, alongside reading, writing, listening and speaking skills in English. A focus on communication and interaction builds students’ knowledge and confidence to use English.

Multi ActivitiesThe Multi-Activity Programme takes place on 3 afternoons each week and the students can choose from a variety of sporting and creative options, such as: football, drumming, cooking, painting and much more!

Academic ProgrammeStudents at Oxford College receive 22 hours of tuition per week, consisting of 15 hours of subject specific tuition through our Elective Courses and 7 hours of Academic Highlights. The Elective Courses available are:

Social ProgrammeOur comprehensive Social Programme gives our students the opportunity to explore the city of Oxford, make new friends and have fun. Students sample life as a University student, taking part in organised social activities throughout their stay.

WellbeingOur Wellbeing Programme provides opportunities for students to exercise, relax, be creative and re-energise. Wellbeing activities include recreational sports, yoga & mindfulness and art workshops.

ExcursionsDuring their course students will visit some of the UK’s best-known attractions and cultural sites. Locations include: London, Bristol, Bath, Brighton and Cambridge.

Academic HighlightsAll Oxford College students will receive 7 additional hours of study per week as part of our Academic Highlights programme. This is designed to complement the courses on offer and give students the opportunity to expand their learning environment to outside of the classroom. This includes University Preparation seminars, workshops during our Academic Excursion and our Time to Shine event.

Formal GraduationSet in a memorable location, at the end of each stay students celebrate their academic and social achievements at a Formal Dinner and Graduation Ceremony. The highlight of any Oxford College stay!

Payment of FeesA deposit of £500 is required to secure your booking. The remaining course fees must be paid by the 14th May. Any bookings after this date must be paid in full at the time of booking. Our 2018 course dates and fees are:

SBC Oxford, Dukes International, Headington Oxford and Oxford College Summer School are operated by Summer Boarding Courses Ltd who will handle all payments and enquiries. Summer Boarding Courses Ltd is an organisation which contracts the use of facilities, but has no formal connection with Dragon School, Canford School, Headington School, Wycliffe Hall, St Hugh’s College or the University of Oxford.

Supervision At all of our centres we provide 24 hour care every day and our summer staff oversee all student activities, including break and meal times, on an excursion and during time in the boarding houses.

Our StaffAll Summer School staff are friendly and helpful professionals, who ensure our students feel supported and cared for whilst away from home.

Support for ParentsFrom the moment you book, you will be allocated your own dedicated Student Support Manager in the Head Office, who will help you through the whole process from initial booking to support during the summer.
