DNS (DOMAIN NAMING SYSTEM)

• Every computing resource on the internet has a unique number called IP address.

• However, it is easier for us to remember the names of the websites that we want to access.

• for example, it is easier to remember www.games.com rather than 202.56.6.68.

• The domain naming system is a system is a system designed to translate the English names into IP addresses.

WEB SERVER

• Web servers are computers that deliver (serves up) Web pages. Every Web server has an IP address and possibly a domain name. For example, if you enter the URL http://www.pcwebopedia.com/index.html in your browser, this sends a request to the Web server whose domain name ispcwebopedia.com. The server then fetches the page named index.html and sends it to your browser.

• Any computer can be turned into a Web server by installing server software and connecting the machine to the Internet. There are many Web server software applications, including public domain software from NCSA and Apache, and commercial packages from Microsoft, Netscape and others.

WEB PAGE

• A web page or webpage is a document or information resource that is suitable for the World Wide Web and can be accessed through a web browser and displayed on a monitor or mobile device.

• This information is usually in HTML format, and may provide navigation to other web pages via hypertext links.

• The web server may restrict access only to a private network, e.g. a corporate intranet, or it may publish pages on the World Wide Web. Web pages are requested and served from web servers using Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP).
