Into the Armor

• The armor is Christ

• The first part of armor: Belt of truth

• Informed faith (based on facts not feeling)

• Applied on baptism

Romans 13:12 The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and

put on the armor of light.13 Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy.14But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.

How do we put on Christ in a practical way?

The Armor is Christ

Ephesians 6:10Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of

his might.11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to

stand against the schemes of the devil…….12 13Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to

withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.

14Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put

on the breastplate of righteousness,15and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,18praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints….

• Surround yourself with the Truth (fasten)

• You use the whole belt (Truth)

John 16:12“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.13When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.14 He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you

Why surround yourself with truth? • John 15:7 Jesus said: if you abide in me

and my Words abide in you, ask whatever you wish and it will be done. By this my Father is glorified that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples

• Joh 15:10 Jesus said: If you keep my commandments you will abide in my love • John 15:11 then your joy will be full • John 15:14 Jesus said: you are my friends IF you do what I commanded you

What is an informed faith and how does this work?

Faith is trusting that God does what he says.

You faith will be tested to see if you act up on it.

Hebrew 11:17 By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was in the act of offering up his only son, 18 of whom it was said, “Through Isaac shall your offspring be named.” 19 He considered/reasoned that God was able even to raise him from the dead, from which, figuratively speaking, he did receive him back

• You have been encircled by the belt of truth and can rely on the Jesus who is the Truth, solid and an unchanging Rock (all other ground is sinking sand)

• The truth is information from God and doesn’t need change or update

Let’s apply today’s teaching to Baptism

Collossians 2:11-15 In Jesus Christ you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ,12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead. 13 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses,14by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.15 He(God) disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him(Jesus).
