Intrepid Edge™ InsecticideIntrepid Edge™ insecticide builds on the proven reliability of Intrepid 2F by offering additional value-added features including fast knockdown and adult insect control while maintaining the long residual of Intrepid. Intrepid Edge combines two powerful active ingredients – methoxyfenozide and spinetoram – to form the fast-acting, long-lasting insecticide. The two active ingredients produce two modes of action and two modes of entry into pests. Intrepid Edge controls a wide range of pests in tree nuts and grapes without disrupting important beneficial insects.

Labeled CropsTree nuts (Crop Group 14) and grapes, including:

■■ Walnuts■■ Almonds■■ Pistachios■■ Pecans■■ Grapes (all types)

(see label for complete list)

Activity on Eggs, Larvae, AdultsMethoxyfenozide and spinetoram are the same active ingredients found in Intrepid® and Delegate® insecticides, respectively. Combined, the two active ingredients will impact all life stages of key pests. For example, university studies have shown that spinetoram has activity on codling moth eggs, larvae and adults. Similarly, Intrepid has shown activity on navel orangeworm eggs and larvae.

The “multi-life stage” activity is valuable when multiple insect life stages are found in an orchard or vineyard. At hull split in almonds, for example, it is common for navel orangeworm eggs, larvae and adults to be present simultaneously. Intrepid Edge will comprehensively reduce the entire pest population.

Furthermore, adult activity is especially helpful when insecticides are applied late in the day or at night. At those times, adults are most active and more likely to come into contact with insecticides.

Crop SafetyNeither Intrepid nor Delegate has demonstrated any negative effects on crops, regardless of plant stage or environmental conditions. Tolerance for Intrepid Edge is very high for all labeled crops.

Two Modes of ActionIntrepid Edge falls into two IRAC (Insecticide Resistance Action Committee) groups – Group 18 (methoxyfenozide) and Group 5 (spinetoram). Methoxyfenozide imitates the insect growth hormone ecdysone, which is critical for molting and reproduction in lepidopterous insects. Upon ingestion of methoxyfenozide, a lethal disruption of the molting process occurs.

Spinetoram affects the insect nervous system by disrupting insect nerve function. This quickly paralyzes and, ultimately, kills insect pests.

Worker SafetyBoth active ingredients were initially registered under the EPA’s Reduced Risk Pesticide Program based on their enhancement of IPM and their lower risk to humans, non-target organisms, and natural resources compared to commercially-available alternatives. Required personal protective equipment (PPE) is minimal. Intrepid Edge exhibits low acute mammalian toxicity.

Signal word: CautionRe-entry interval: 4 hoursPre-harvest interval: 14 days (tree nuts) 30 days (grapes)

IPM CompatibleIntrepid Edge can be used as part of a pest management program that takes advantage of beneficial insect populations.

The active ingredient methoxyfenozide (Intrepid) is highly selective and active only on lepidopteran insects. In more than a decade of use, there has not been a single reported case of a secondary pest outbreak resulting from an application of Intrepid.

Spinetoram (Delegate) has low impact on populations of key beneficial insects. Applications of spinetoram will not flare mites or secondary pests.

The University of California conducted field trials with Intrepid Edge in walnuts. In those trials, beneficial insect populations remained high and walnut aphid, two spotted spider mite and European red mite populations remained low through the season, never reaching treatable populations.

Similarly, field trials conducted with Intrepid Edge in almonds and grapes showed no significant increase in aphid or mite populations.

FormulationIntrepid Edge is a 3 lb/gallon material, containing 2.5 lb/gallon of methoxyfenozide and 0.5 lb/gallon of spinetoram.
