Mosquito, Not Bee,New Benny Theme
HOLLYWOOD, JackBenny is playing a new tune onhis fiddle this season. After a sum-mer of island -hopping in the Pacificwar area, it's now "The Mosquito"instead of "The Bee."
The comedian, who returns toNBC for his thirteenth season onSunday, Oct. 1, (7:00 p.m.) was stillslapping mosquito bites when hegot to Honolulu on his way home.
"The Army's 'Mosquito Network'is well named," he said. "Whywhen I was playing, one of thelittle so-and-so's started drilling onmy fiddle. I fooled him, though. Istarted to play 'The Bee,' andeverybody thought the drilling wassound effects."
Benny said that mosquito netting
Jack Benny
doesn't help a bit. "Certain mos-quitos are especially trained tohandle this sort of thing," he said."If the netting isn't attached, theymerely lift it up and hold it so thatthe others can get in, and if it isattached, they just drill rightthrough it. This second techniquewas rapidly gaining favor just be-fore I left because it destroys themosquito netting for future use.
"And don't be surprised if youhear a strange, realistic buzzingwhen I'm playing 'The Bee' thisseason," he added. "I think thereare stowaways in my fiddle."

NORA MARTIN
Songstress NORA MARTIN willbe playing a return engagementthis fall on NBC's Eddie Cantorshow, and she has been busy thepast few weeks shopping for aglamorous wardrobe which willcharm her G.I. audiences . .
Caught a picture of her in herlatest blouse selection-an autumnprint which fastens under her chinor does double -duty with the moreinformal over -the -suit -collar treat-ment.
The tunic is occupying a promi-nent place in street clothes andsuits and also is used on eveninggowns. MRS. FREEMAN GOS-DEN (Mr. Gosden is Amos of"Amos 'n' Andy") selected a stun-ning formal creation for the recentpremiere of the "Ice Follies"-itwas a .gold lame dinner gownwhich featured a swallow-tailedtunic in back ... DOROTHY LA-MOUR was also on hand for theopening beautifully attired in agrey satin dinner suit and match-ing Ali Baba turban ... CONNIEMOORE was warding off the icybreezes with a monk's robe coatin nutmeg brown. This theme isvery popular with its big wideround shoulders and open flowingsleeves that hang straight from theshoulder .. , NBC's CASS DALEYwore a new mink coat over a richpurple suit which had a turquoiseblouse for color contrast.
The glitter of sequins oncemore catches the eye when JOANBENNETT appears in her newcinnamon -brown dinner dress ac-cented with copper "sparklers"-it's softly draped chiffon, spatteredwith sequins in star designs.Adding autumnal color tones isher topaz and diamond jewelry.
Victorian white moire is thefabric of one of IRENE DUNNE'Snew formal gowns. It has a three -tiered skirt and a low-cut bodicewith thin straps. More sequinsare used in a gay green bird de-sign embroidered at the waistline.
