1 IntroductionThis document describes the installation process for the first DUNE detector module. The first detector module is a single-phase TPC with integrated photon detection.

Figure 1: 3-D model of the installation area outside the cleanroom during APA installation.

2 Underground Conditions at the Start of Detector Installation

● Cryostat status at the start of installation

o The cryostat is leak tested and clean.o Cryogenic internal piping is completeo The temporary floor inside the cryostat is installed o Internal cryostat lighting is functionalo Temporary power inside the cryostat is availableo The HVAC is operating according to ISO-14644/ISO-8.o The inside of the cryostat has passed cleanroom inspection

Requires particle count survey is done, air velocity OK, and all procedures are in place.o The outer cleanroom may not be fully operational at the start and a temporary tent outside the TCO

may be needed initially. o The inside of the cryostat may be used for clean assembly space.

● DSS status at the start of installation

o The DSS is installed during cryostat installation. This will allow the use of the scaffolding needed to install the membrane for installing the DSS.

o The DSS will be surveyed in position and the feedthroughs adjusted.o The DSS support flanges will be tight and leak tested.o The shuttle system will be fully commissioned

● The DAQ has installed and tested a portion of the final system including the racks for rows 1 and row 24 and 25

o Row 1 will be the first installed.o Rows 24 and 25 will supply power to the TPC readout electronics for the cold boxes.o DAQ installation and testing will proceed in parallel to the detector installation.

● All CE crosses and WEC are installed prior to start of TPC installation.

o The flanges are closed and light tight. Rubber seals are installed where the flanges will need opened during installation. The CE components are clean.

● Slow control monitoring is debugged and operational

● Detector Safety System is operational

● The cryostat/detector ground monitoring is functional

3 Installation AssumptionsThe list of assumptions summarizes the fundimental decision upon which the installation plan is based. Changing any of the assumptions will have significant impact on the installation schedule, underground occupancy, and risks.

o APA doublets are tested using 3 cold boxes underground immediately outside the cryostat.o The area outside the cleanroom is used to store 1 month of materials.o The assembly area outside the cryostat and the inside of the cryostat meet the ISO-8 cleanroom

requirements according to ISO-14644.o The PD modules can be inserted into the sides of the APA though pre-installed conduits.o The APA wire tension measurement is performed on the assembly tower after the doublet is assembled.o The APS transport boxes are rotated into vertical orientation, placed on a custom cart, and the outer

covers are removed in the cavern area. The APA protective plastic bags are removed in the SAS.

o Photon detector module scanning is performed in the cleanroom.
