I have never had the opportunity to participate in an open house. My school has been discussing the possibility of partaking in a school wide open house. I believe that this PowerPoint will enhance my open house for parents and family members. This will be a great way for me to introduce what I expect as a third grade teacher and will help me by providing visualizations for the parents. The pictures that are in this PowerPoint are from previous years and activities that were done in the past in my third grade room. The following slides will, hopefully, encourage parents to promote their students learning within my classroom. I included limited transitions or animations because I dont want the parents to get distracted from the slideshow itself.
*
-Students are responsible for their actions, school work, and homework-Students are expected to use their listening skills for teachers, students, and guests in the room-Students are expected and encouraged to be an active participant in the classroom-Students are expected to be courteous to others-Students have many opportunities for group work-As a teacher I try to encourage the idea that school is fun if you allow it to be-Students are expected to turn in schoolwork on time as well as their homework-Consequences, that the student will come up with, will be given to any student that doesnt follow through with these expectations
*
Number and Operations: Number notation and place value, understand odd and even numbers, add and subtract whole numbers, multiply and divide numbers (it is very important that the students understand strategies and/or know the answers the multiplication problems), problem-solving with whole numbers, simple fractions, addition/subtraction of fractions, understand simple decimals.Measurement: measure and use units-length, weight, time, and temperature, understand area and perimeter and apply in problems, estimate area and perimeter, solve measurement problems.Geometry: Recognize basic elements of geometric objects, name and explore properties oh shapes, explore and name 3-D solids.Data and Probability: Use bar graphs
*
Changes in motion: Gravity, Force, and SpeedLight and Sound: Forms of energy, Light properties, Sound, Conductive and Reflective propertiesLiving Things: Structure/Function, Classification, Environmental AdaptationEarth Materials: Natural Resources, Human Impact, Earth Materials, Surface Changes, using Earths Materials
*
The students experimented with building a solar oven and attempted to cook hotdogs. They were all given the same basic materials-black paper, aluminum foil, and a pizza box.
*
Students use concepts from 2nd grade to help them transition into learning about 3rd grade standards, learning about Michigan from beginning to statehood, Michigans economy and how Michigan is involved in the national and international economy, learning about Michigans government and learning about public issues
*
Students researched a subject in Michigans history and presented their research in a living wax museum
*
Narrative writing products: realistic fiction, fantasyExpository writing products: compare/contrast two pieces, research reportPersuasive writing products: persuasive essayPoetry products: rhymed couplet, triplet, jokes, quatrain
*
This is a stage in the students life that is difficult for them. They are transitioning from learning how to read to a new stage of reading to learn. Students are expected to research information in third grade. They are expected to understand what they are reading as well as taking that information and learning from it. TQuestioning: Asking questions before, during, and after-ask questions of themselves, the authors, and the text
*
Visualizing: Making mental pictures before, during, and after readingInferring: Drawing conclusions, defining unknown words
*
Readers Theater
*
Monthly opportunities to play standards based computer games.
*
Games are used for better understanding-science activity (predator/prey)
