IntroductionYour coursework task will be to research the print industry and then produce your own pages for a new music magazine.

You will:

Carry out research on existing products

Produce draft designs

Complete a preliminary task

Produce your final product

Evaluate your work

Marking

Your coursework is 50% of your overall grade

You will be marked out of 100

You can get up to 20 marks for research and planning

You can get up to 60 marks for production

You can get up to 20 marks for evaluation

Marking

Your work will be marked against 4 different levels:

Level 1 - Minimal

Level 2 - Basic

Level 3 - Proficient

Level 4 - Excellent

Coursework

To complete your coursework you must submit:

Complete research and planning documentation – presented in a folder or via a blog or website

Preliminary college magazine task – presented in folder or blog and submitted electronically

Front cover, contents page and double page spread – submitted electronically

Evaluation presented in a blog or a PowerPoint – submitted electronically

Research & Planning

Your research & planning will be marked against the following criteria:

Your research into similar products and target audience

Your organisation of actors, locations, costumes and props Your work on layouts, drafting, scripting or storyboarding.

The care you have taken in the presentation of your research and planning

Production

Your production skills will be marked against the following criteria:

Your framing of shots and the way you include and exclude elements as appropriate

Your skill at using a variety of shot distances as appropriate Your ability to shoot material appropriate to the task set

Your selection of mise-en-scène including colour, figure, lighting, objects and setting

Your manipulation of photographs as appropriate to the context for presentation, including cropping and resizing

Your ability to accurately using language and register

Your skill in appropriately integrating illustration and text

Showing your understanding of conventions of layout and page design

Showing your awareness of the need for variety in fonts and text size

Evaluation

Your evaluation will be marked against the following criteria:

Your ability to refer to the choices you have made and the outcomes

Your understanding of your development from preliminary to main task

Your ability to communicate

Deadlines

Your finished project is due in on the 18th of February

Your research is due in on the 29th November

Your planning is due in on the 4th January

Your pages must be complete by the 7th February

Your evaluation must be complete by 18th February

Deadlines

You will be set tasks during your first lesson of the week

You will have the remainder of lesson time that week and any homework time required to complete the task

Each piece of work will have a deadline

Each deadline must be met

Failure to do so will result in disciplinary action
