Introduction IntelaTrac is a suite of tools to assist operators, field engineers and supervisors to create inspection and regulatory procedures, assign, schedule and execute rounds and report back findings with assigned levels of criticality and severity. It helps to accelerate and sustain operational process improvements and is a key component of an effective Operations Management System. IntelaTrac is comprised of integrated modules to deliver best practices and collect data to ensure plant tasks and goals are efficiently executed in the field and in your decision support systems. In addition to providing a rich set of tools to analyze the data captured by the operator, IntelaTrac also has the ability to deliver data to a Wonderware Historian. This enables plant personnel to analyze the full spectrum of data that’s available from their process. Today’s Tech Tip will illustrate the steps required to setup IntelaTrac and Historian to work together.

Point IntelaTrac to a Historian The first step in this process is to point the IntelaTrac Sync Server to a Wonderware Historian.

1. Start the IntelaTrac Management Center (IMC)

2. Go to the Administration tab and click on Administration Application

3. Click the FILE menu and select Open and then System Configuration

4. Click the dropdown box at the top of the window and select Wonderware Update. Configure the following fields:

a. HostName – this is the name of the Server where Historian is running b. SleepSeconds – this is the time interval that used to send IntelaTrac Data to the Historian.

Default is 30 seconds

5. Select FILE, EXIT. You’ll be asked if you want to save your changes. Click YES to save and exit to the IntelaTrac Management Center. IntelaTrac is now pointed to the Historian.

Configure Procedures to Capture and Send Data After pointing IntelaTrac to a working Historian, our next step is to configure the operator rounds so the system knows which pieces of data we want to send to the Historian.

1. In the IMC, expand CONTENT MANAGEMENT and click on Procedure Builder and select a base where the procedures are defined

2. Click on the Procedure Locator tab, locate the procedure you want and double-click to edit it.

3. Expand the Procedure Builder tree until you find the Task whose value you want to capture. Drag and drop the Wonderware Historian Integration object underneath the Task.

4. Select the Historian Integration object and enter the name of the Historian tag that IntelaTrac will send the data to. Make note of the tagname you enter.

Tagnames may contain any printable ASCII character, with the exception of the pipe ( | ), a left bracket ( [ ) or a right bracket ( ] ). It is highly recommended that you adhere to the rules for SQL Server identifiers. For "conventional" tagnames the first character may be:

Alphabetic

Numeric, provided that the next character is alphabetic. For example, 2ETV433ET

The dollar sign ( $ ) or pound sign ( # ) Subsequent characters may be:

Alphanumeric

An underscore ( _ ), the dollar sign ( $ ), the pound sign ( # ), the percent sign ( % ), or a backslash ( \ ).

The last character of a tagname cannot be a double quotation mark ( " ) or one or more single quotation marks ( ' ) .

5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each task and for every procedure. Once you’ve added all the Wonderware

Historian Integration objects and configured them, select the FILE menu and Close. Save your changes.

6. To apply the changes made in the previous steps, you’ll need to release each procedure. Click on the Procedure Locator tab, right-click on each procedure, select File and then Release Procedure.

7. Select FILE and Exit to close out of Procedure Builder and return to the IntelaTrac Management Center.

Configure Tagnames in Historian The last step of getting data from IntelaTrac to Historian is to define and configure tagnames in the Historian. The Historian tagnames must match each of the tagnames that were assigned to a Wonderware Historian Integration object in Procedure Builder.

1. Start the System Management Console, expand IndustrialSQL Server, Configuration Editor, Data Acquisition and navigate down to MDAS/Manual Tags.

2. Right-click on MDAS/Manual Tags and select New Analog Tag. Enter a tagname from your list of tags created in Procedure Builder.

Click Next.

3. Enter a Description for the tag, select an Engineering Unit, and enter the expected Min and Max values.

4. Data Acquistion type will be MDAS, set the Raw Data Type to Integer or Real and set any Scaling if necessary. Click Next.

5. Since this is manual data acquisition, leave the storage type as Delta and click Finish.

6. Repeat steps 1 through 5 for the remaining tags in your list. Once all the tags created in Procedure Builder have been entered into the Historian, right-click on MDAS and choose Commit Pending Changes to activate the new tags.

IntelaTrac and Historian now linked At this point IntelaTrac and the Historian are now linked. When an operator syncs the handheld in IntelaTrac after performing a set of rounds, the data that’s been captured will not only be sent to the IntelaTrac database but also forwarded to the Historian. The data can then be accessed using any of the ActiveFactory Tools.
