Elementa Group - OverviewPatented Technology for Sustainable Energy Solutions

The World Faces 2 Major Problems• Elementa is a technology company with a solution for two of the world’s most pressing

environmental problems:• Eliminating landfills• Providing a variety of clean energy options

Elementa Has Best-in-Class Technology• Elementa’s process is based on Steam Reformation (SR)

– a non-incineration, thermal technology:• New technology applied to a well-known chemistry• Small environmental footprint•Modular and scalable• Robust, tested, off-the-shelf systems & equipment• Unparalleled energy and economic efficiency• The highest GHG reduction rate per MWe

Elementa Group – Overview ContinuedPatented Technology for Sustainable Energy Solutions

Elementa is a Company Positioning for Rapid Growth• Elementa has:

• Proprietary processes with IP ownership• Demonstrated experience – and success• In-house business and technology expertise – 25 employees and growing• Global client and partner relationships, with a rapidly growing project pipeline

Elementa Waste Conversion

•Breaks down waste through the application of indirect heat

(no incineration),the absence of oxygen and the proper balance of chemistry: C + H2O = CO + H2

• Can accept various types of carbon based feedstock : paper, wood, green wastes, plastic, textiles – MSW, sewage sludge, medical waste – Elementa is currently focused on the MSW and industrial based markets• Requires only minimal preparation of waste• Exceedingly low air emissions (well below stringent international standards)• Self-sustaining closed-loop system • Significantly reduces the need for landfilling – therefore no odour issues, air emissions (methane),

leachate, improper land use, and waste of valuable resources

Elementa Power Generation

• Offsets energy produced from fossil fuels• Sustainably reduces GHG emissions• High conversion efficiency • Steady, reliable based power output• Located close to the load centres

Proven ConceptOur challenge: Build on the Past by Optimizing the Future

Elementa’s technology uses rotary kilns, which are the same as those used in ‘pyrolysis’ (a similar process but using different chemistry and temperature). Pyrolysis plants with rotary kilns have been successfully processing MSW in Germany for over 20 years.

•MSW Pyrolysis Plant in Burgau, Germany• Operational in 1984• Capacity of 35,000 tonnes/year

• ConTherm Plant in Hamm, Germany• Operational in 2001• Operated in combination with Westfalen

coal-fired plant• Capacity of 100,000 tonnes/yr

Technology DemonstratorSault Ste. Marie

• Pilot Demonstration Site in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario

• Operating since the fall of 2007

• Capacity of 3 tonnes/day (increasing to 7 tonne/day)

• Received Ministry of Environment approvals for Air and Waste (first in Ontario)
