Groundhog Day
The Ground hog came out to see its shadow,
Instead it saw little old me.
It got so frightened, it hit a tree.
When it came to and looked around,
Was it’s shadow on the ground?
Tune in on February 2nd for further details,
To find out whether it saw the shadow of it’s head or tail!
Presidential Range in South Dakota
I looked at Mount Rushmore with awe and amazement,
The Presidential Range is something to gaze on.
George Washington, Abe Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson and Teddy Roosevelt;
An inspiration to us all.
How would they feel about today? Did we persevere or did we drop the ball?
Mount Rushmore chiseled from rock and stone,
To honor those men who succeeded on their own.
The going was tough, blood and tears were shed,
To wipe out hatred and bigotry;
So we could live as equals instead,
When one looks at their granite faces,
You can almost read between the lines.
Don’t mess things up for future generations
When it comes to be their time.

From the Desk of the Administrator…………
After our fond good-bye to Alex Gross,
administrator, we are looking forward to the
next chapter at Lester Senior Housing
Community. We have met with many
interesting and well- polished applicants for the
administrator position. I will keep everyone
posted when a final decision of a new
administrator has been made.
On a personal level, it has been a pleasure to be
back at Lester and re-connect with all of you.
Some of you know I started my career with
JCHC as the administrator of Lester Senior
Housing.
BRRRR……We have experienced another cold
blast and there are predictions of more cold
temperatures. Just a reminder: let us know
immediately if there are any heating issues in
your apartments. Did you know glass is one of
the best conduits of cold? Make sure you keep
your blinds and curtains drawn, particularly
after the sun goes down.
The Broncos or the Sea Hawks? Don’t forget
the Super Bowl party on Feb. 2nd, 2014.
Go Red in February! The American Heart
Association is promoting awareness of healthy
heart interventions. Although geared towards
women, it is important for all of us to look at
ways to stay our healthiest. Please check the
Administrator’s Corner activity calendar, as Cheryl, Community Life
Coordinator, has planned special health lectures and
programs.
Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions,
comments, compliments and/or concerns. I can be
reached at 973 929- 2747. My cell phone number is
973-618-6215. You should also feel free to stop by the
Administration offices if you would like to meet with
me.

February Facts
In the Georgian calendar, the calendar that most of the
world uses, February is the second month of the year. Most
of the months have 30 or 31 days in a month but February
is shorter. February had 28 days until Julius Caesar gave it
29 & 30 days every four years. Then, the Roman emperor
Augustus took one day from February and added that to
August because August was a month that was named after
him. Below are some fun facts about February:
1. The birthstone for February is Amethyst.
2. Two zodiac signs for February are Aquarius (January 20 -
February 18) and Pisces (February 19 - March 20)
3. The month has 29 days in leap years, when the year
number is divisible by four. In common years the month has
28 days.
4. Viola (plant) and the Primrose are the birth flowers.
5. Black History Month is celebrated in Canada and United
States.
6. On February 4, 1861, a temporary committee met at
Montgomery, Alabama where they organized a Confederate
States of America.
7. On February 6, 1933, Amendment 20 to the United
States was proclaimed which moved the Inauguration Day
to January 20th.
8.. In February 1910, the Boy Scouts of America was
incorporated.

FACES
They look familiar, those I see,
As though they are well known to me.
A second glance and then I know
Knowing them just isn’t so.
Why the mistake and the confusion,
Why knowing them is an illusion.
At this advanced date in time,
Knowing someone in their prime,
Is different than what they look like now,
Wrinkled face and furrowed brow.
A little bent, a little stooped,
A little effort and they’re pooped.
Not knowing them brings an admission,
More powerful than recognition.
I see in them another time,
When they and we were in our prime.
The outer layer may be crumbling,
We may be slow we may be stumbling,
But with canes, walkers and determination,
We try to make life a celebration,
Each day a gift, days may be numbered,
but with depression we’re not encumbered.
We saw a lot, learned to survive,
We carried on, we worked to thrive.
So if I smile as to a friend,
I really know you in the end.

A Fond Farewell to Alex
By Dolly Moser
The Heller multi-purpose room was filled to overflowing with Lester residents who gathered on Thursday afternoon, January 16th, to bid a fond farewell to Alex Gross, Administrator.
Mildred Feldstein, Senior Housing Tenants Association/Heller Building president, Helen Heller, Weston Council President, Bea Freiheiter, Resident Poet, Dolly Moser, Volunteer, and Joan Wesolowski, Business Office manager all spoke. Choir members included residents, Polly Ann Fluke, Arline Frankel, Theodore Halpern, Mira Pratt and Sylvia Zyto. Cheryl Fisch, Community Life Coordinator, was the master of ceremonies. All expressed the admiration, respect, gratitude and affection which Alex earned in such large measure during his four years of service here. A framed certificate expressing those sentiments from the residents of Lester Senior Housing Community was presented to him.
Thanks to all for a warm and meaningful Lester Community Expression
Progress is being made!
Heller Dining Room Water Damage, January 8, 2014
A recent arctic blast of cold weather resulted in one solitary water pipe bursting in the Heller Dining Room. This
caused the sprinkler system to be activated. The quick thinking of the facilities team, headed by Superintendent
Moisey Lisek and Regional Facilities Director Terrence Roselle kept this serious water damage from being a major
building catastrophe. Special thanks to the immediate response from the Hanover Fire Department.
Within hours, clean –up and restoration began and continued throughout the nights. Drapes, tables and chairs
have been professionally cleaned. The carpenters are working well into the night with the ceiling renovations.
Painting was also in progress yesterday. Carpet has been ordered, and installation is scheduled for early next week.
Mitchell Goldberg, Regional Dining Director, and team will continue to provide room service until the re-opening
occurs.
Our anticipated re-opening of the dining room is projected for the week of Feb. 10, 2014.
The Lester team wants to thank the residents for their patience during this important renovation / restoration
project.
