PURIM
Strike Up the music,
Dance and have fun
Wicked Haman is gone and done!
By trying to get rid of all the Jews
His plan backfired and lit its own fuse
Queen Esther and of course Mordechai, the heroes of this story
Were triumphant on that day of glory.
So put on your costumes
Eats lots of Hamantashen, Drink a little wine and do some noshing.
Don’t forget the king who did his part. Lucky for Queen Esther, that she stole his heart.
March
Does March come in like a lion or a lamb?
We have had a harsh winter,
The lion should take a rest-
Let’s put the little lamb to the test
Some gentle weather so we can recover
And warmer weather that we can rediscover
The lion should take a long nap
And take a longer time before coming back
Gentle lamb, it’s up to you,
We have faith that you will come through.
So lets have a good March, one we can enjoy
That is to our liking, now, don’t play coy!

tions or concerns. If you would like to meet

We are in the Jewish month of Adar (first of
two since it is a leap year) and it is said that
joy is increased upon the advent of the month
of Adar. – “M’Shenichnas Adar Marbin
B’Simcha”. I don’t know if it is solely due to
the advent of the months of Adar or just this
wonderful community but I am very heart-
ened to feel the palpable joy of the present
and hope for the future here at Lester.
I arrived after the dining room incident
occurred but have been told that all residents
showed great patience and dealt well and
calmly with what had to be done. Amazing-
ly, the renovations were completed quickly
and, thanks to our great staff, services contin-
ued without disruption. Now you have an
updated, beautiful, warm dining room to en-
joy.
The March calendar of events has many
exciting programs. There is an upcoming
presentation by JCHC University – updating

* I’ll never forget what Marlon Brando told me as he played
an Italian hairdresser. He said, “I’ll make you a coiffure
you can’t refuse!”
I’ll never forget what Jack Nicholson said when I asked
him if I could hold the saber tooth tiger’s long incisor
which he owns. He yelled, “You can’t handle the tooth!”
I’ll never forget what Humphrey Bogart said when I asked
him what estrogen is. He said, “It’s the stuff that dames
are made of.”
A Father took his little girl to see Star Wars. He noticed
she alternated between excitement and puzzlement. After
the movie, he asked her what she though of it. She replied,
“Well, Dad, I liked it a lot except I couldn’t understand a
word that big hairy guy said. “He laughed and said, “Oh, I
know why! That was a Wookie, and ...that's just the way the
Wookie mumbles.”

Naomi’s Rhyme Time
Sparrows on the Ice
The tiny little sparrows were sitting on the ice.
To see them through the snowflakes, had me
looking twice
So tiny and so fragile, so vulnerable and small,
How can they stand the freezing cold and be liv-
ing here at all?
Yet they fly up to a ridge, a window or a tree,
Pondering this question is not really new to me.
As a child, there were sparrows on the wires
above the street,
I wondered how they could survive the wind and
snow and sleet
Yet they sat and yet they flew, and went from
place to place,
The freezing cold and bitter winds no reason to
displace.
The sparrow is a wonder, in our amazing world,
I wish them well in winter storms, as their
stamina is unfurled.

A Snow Day Turns Into a Fun Day!
COO Laurie Loughney has reported an unexpected new admission at our Josh and Judy Weston Assisted
Living Residence, a Mr. Westy who comes from the Antarctica. Bola Kuku, our Director of Wellness,
conducted a nursing assessment and determined that he had frost bitten hands, so we provided gloves. He is not
on any medication; according to Mr. Westy his magic hat keeps him going. Bola said he still has to be on medi-
cation management, however, so our staff can monitor his magic levels.
Mr. Westy complained that his apartment was too warm for him so Moisey made him a room on the Weston
dining room patio. Mr. Westy will have a short “respite” stay at Weston and will be leaving when the sun
comes back up!
As for our actual residents – those in the Weston Dining room watched out the window as Mr. Westy appeared;
they gave him great cheers of welcome, took lots of photos, and shared snow memories with each other. Bola
and Laurie provided a conflict resolution training (snow ball fight!). The residents agreed that Bola won.
Thanks!
On February 18th we welcomed our new Administrator, Marlene Glass, to our Com-
munity. Over 70 Heller and Weston residents gathered to welcome Marlene.
Marlene met with residents during a relaxed ‘meet and greet’ event. All attendees had
a champagne glass of sparkly apple cider. Ms. Helen Heller, President of the Weston
Assisted Living Residents Council gave an eloquent toast to the new
administrator. “We welcome you to Lester Senior Housing. We wish you much
success and happiness in your new role. We hope you will be with us a very
long time’. Everyone raised their glasses and applauded.

Heller Highlights from E. Anne Lipman,
On behalf of the LSH {Lester Senior Housing} residents, I would like to extend a big
Thank You to each of the departments involved in restoring normalcy to our lives in the after-
math of the catastrophic flooding: management, maintenance and meal service.
We found the news quite daunting, when Alex warned, “The Dining Room would be closed
for at least one month.” Our hearts sank to our soles (souls), for the evening meal serves a
valuable aspect of our daily life, it is a time to socialize, as we savor and slurp the soup and
pick apart the chicken wings. It’s a time to kibitz and yes, kvetch -- a little. A time to share
Simchas with our dining companions, tell stories and relate the latest news.
Eating alone in our apartment gave us a new appreciation of better days to come. Our special
thanks to Mitch, Carlos, Joseph, and the Chef. To Al and the Servers who vigilantly kept
track of our orders. To the staff who packaged and delivered our Meals on Wheels. I didn’t
hear of any one missing dinner.
To say we are happy to be back in the Dining Room is an under steakment. (statement)
