Data Collection Methods The results presented here were obtained from a survey of all prospective employers of nurse practitioners and physician assistants as listed below: • Medical practice entities • Hospital and health system management • Community and mental health centers • Iowa-based emergency medicine contractors • Independently practicing nurse practitioners and physician assistants • Student health • Veterans Administration • Correctional facilities • Retail medical clinics The results represent a 100% response rate.

Provider Consultation Services Medical Practice Development Program

The Office of Statewide Clinical Education Programs provides consultative services to providers interested in Iowa medical practice opportunities. The services include: • Advice on practice site selection criteria • Community profiles and provider rosters • Confidential inquiries regarding specific practice opportunities • Identification of important considerations concerning specific

opportunities • Practice management consultations • Negotiation assistance with established providers, hospital representatives

and community recruitment groups • Substantive reviews of contracts • Assistance for providers after they begin a new practice

How to Use the Directory The Directory is divided into three sections:

1. Opportunities for either a nurse practitioner or a physician assistant;

2. Opportunities specifically for nurse practitioners; and

3. Opportunities specifically for physician assistants.

Each section includes a summary that lists communities offering opportunities and a map showing where the communities are located. Specific opportunities are then listed by community and include the following:

• Community population (2010 US Census Bureau data)

• Total number of acute care beds

• Location of the opportunity by region of Iowa as indicated by the initialsbelow the city name, i.e., Northwest (NW), North Central (NC), Northeast(NE), Southeast (SE), South Central (SC), and Southwest (SW).

• Type of practice and/or specialty of the practice opportunity

• Contact information for the practice opportunity. Each contact to the rightof the community information represents at least one opportunity in thecity listed. E-mail addresses are provided when available.
