Dear All,
In today’s circumstances, lot of adjustments and innovativeness needs to be generated to stay to grow or to sustain the present position. As it is said, you cannot use yesterday’s idea in today’s fast track competition.
The theme on our cover page talks about ; Like raindrops, be consistent, swift, flexible, pure and feel the freshness. Every minute, a new idea generates vibration and a powerful activity takes place thus putting you ahead of others. But the idea has to be pure and truthful building a positive energy not in one but every person who is associated with it.
World is going through unprecedented financial turbulence. Getting money is no longer easy but being difficult. Saving what you have is a necessity. Indian culture is all about saving for tomorrow. Many companies were able to save and stay afloat during this difficult time only by reducing workforce expenses. Hence, we have to learn to save, mould ourselves into a better situation and take advantage of the hidden creativity. The balance has to be seen as an opportunity to challenge ‘Staus-Quo’ and look newer ways of doing things. A small disturbance here and given to novel idea of making use of the smallest thing and thus inventing a pure idea of utilization. A story to be shared with all of you…
Buddha, one day, was on deep thought about the worldly activities and the ways of instilling goodness in human. The following is the text of conversation between him and his disciple.
One of the disciples approached him and said humbly “Oh my teacher! While you are so much concerned about the world and others, why don’t you look into the welfare and needs of your own disciples also”.
Buddha: OK…Tell me how I can help you?
Disciple: Master, My attire is worn out and is beyond the decency to wear the same. Can I get a new one please?
Buddha found the robe indeed was in a bad condition which needed replacement. He asked the store keeper to give the disciple a new robe to wear on. The disciple thanked Buddha and retired to his room. Though he met his disciple’s requirement, Buddha was not all that contended on his decision. He realized he missed out some point. A while after, he realized, what he should have asked the disciple? He went to his disciple’s place and asked him “Is your new attire comfortable? Do you need anything more?”
Disciple: Thank you my Master. The attire is indeed very comfortable. I need nothing more.
Buddha: Having got the new one, what did you do with your old attire?
Disciple: I am using it as my bedspread.
Buddha: Then…hope you have disposed off your bed spread.
Disciple: No…no…Master. I am using my old bedspread as my window curtain.
Buddha: What about your old curtain?
Disciple: Being used to handle hot utensils in the kitchen
Buddha: Oh…I see…Can you tell me what they did with the old cloth they used in the kitchen?
Disciple: They are being used to wash the floor.
Buddha: Then, the old rug being used to wash the floor…????
Disciple: Master, since they were torn off so much, we could not find any better use, but to use as a twig in the oil lamp, which is right now lit in your study room….
Buddha smiled in contentment and left for his room.
Moral: If not to this degree of utilization, can we at least attempt to find the best use of all our resources at home and at office….?? It becomes imperative in the critical time of Recession…..

'TARGET MALARIA' SYMPOSIA
Malaria Par Vaar – Intima ke saath
Ipca's crusade against Malaria is effectively carried on in
the domestic market by Intima division. Having unified all
antimalarials under its banner, Intima has gone all out to
popularize use of ACT (artemisinin based combination
therapy) and promote right usage of antimalarial drugs
through numerous CMEs and other promotional of media
in the last financial year – an initiative otherwise not
undertaken by many companies in the field of malaria.
In this financial year, Intima's efforts attained a new
pinnacle when Intima organized symposia 'Target Malaria'
having highly acclaimed international authority on malaria
'Dr. Peter J Weina' as the speaker at seven cities,
addressing around 1000 Doctors across India.
Dr. Peter J Weina (PhD, MD, FACP) is the chief of the
Department of pharmacology & Director of Walter Reed
Army Institute of Research – an institute that has played
pivotal role in developing many antimalarials.
Dr. Weina, who is currently Colonel in US Army, has a rich
experience of treating malaria patients worldwide. With his
clinical expertise and high teaching skills, Dr. Weina held
the audience spellbound in all symposia. Dr. Weina shared

valuable insights about role of artesunate in severe
malaria, benefits of using ACTs, their usage across the
globe and the emerging standards of malaria management
worldwide.
His talk was followed by a session by Dr. Abhyankar who
put forth the Indian scenario and touched up on Intima's
extensive antimalarial range. A question - answer session
fol lowed, wherein al l at tendees part ic ipated
enthusiastically.
The symposia empowered the top-notches of the medical
fraternity with a global perspective on Malaria, thus
equipping them for better management of malaria patients.
The symposia also served as a launch pad for Intima's
'Target Malaria' campaign – a campaign that, in many
ways, puts Ipca's initiatives and leadership in the malarial
arena.
We take this opportunity to compliment the Intima team
A Proud Moment For All Intimians
Rapither–AB attains No.1 position
Rapither-AB, along with other newer anti-malarials,
became the arrowhead brand after all anti-malarials were
brought under the banner of Intima last year. Since then,
Rapither-AB started getting a strong foothold in the
market with a perfect blend of pull & push tactics,
eventually getting well- entrenched in to various clinical
settings.
The early reflections of its success march was captured by
ORG – IMS, when Rapither-AB become no.1 brand for 3
consecutive months namely Dec'08, Jan'09 & Feb'09.
Rapither-AB started this financial year on a highly positive
note, becoming the No.1 brand on MAT basis in the ORG-
IMS report for April 2009. Rapither-AB, today, is reigning
supreme in the topmost segment of anti-malarial market

It is truly a proud moment for all Intimians and we take this
opportunity to thank each one of them for their contribution.

WORLD SCHIZOPHRENIA DAY
“If you talk to God it is a prayer
If God talks to you, then you are considered
schizophrenic…”
This is not all that ends with schizophrenics, they hear
unusual voices, they suspect that somebody is trying to kill
them; they think they are the most powerful people in the
world. All these symptoms suggest that a person may have
schizophrenia.
“Schizophrenia” – a mental illness is not just a name of a
biological condition whose nature awaits to be elucidated
but is the stigma that forces many to obscure the obvious.
Schizophrenia affects about 1% of population and has
gone unrecognized because of the lack of awareness
among the families.
Innova has taken the initiative to disseminate the
awareness about the schizophrenia to the caretakers by
joining hands with the most renowned practitioners. Innova thhas observed 24 May ‘09 as ‘World Schizophrenia Day’ by
conducting CME’s all over India with the panel of leading
psychiatrists.
Bombay Psychiatry Society (BPS) conducted the first
meeting of the year in co-ordination with Innova. Second
meeting was conducted in association with SCARF.
The objective of observing ‘World Schizophrenia Day’ is to
assure that Innova – a neuropsychiatry division of Ipca has
been conforming mind molecules for better clinical
outcomes. It will also continue its efforts to provide the best
of the treatment with the best molecules like Quel SR &
Ozapin MD to the medical practitioners for their patients
whose capacities for self management has been impaired
by mental illness.

Nepal, the kingdom country has always been in the news
for more than one reason - the abrupt end of monarchy, the
passing of powers to political parties, the political chaos
which is always on and tourist attraction the country offers.
If Nepal as a country has this amazement in place, the
‘Resilience’ of Ipca Nepal Team is definitely a thing to talk
about.
The team has not only proved that it can grow and double
its sales as it has done in the last two years but also looking
at opportunities available in terms of unexplored markets.
In these two years if the team has achieved set plans and
growth they have also seen and gone through
infrastructural difficulties like power load shedding for 16
hours and more....non availability of petrol, bandh, curfews
and more. The only thing that kept the team moving
towards achieving their goals was their sheer
determination to achieve success, to let the world know that
this team will jump back and emerge as winner.
The active support of Mr. A.K.Jain and others in terms of
special manufacturing of products for Nepal, renewal of
registrations on time, customized strategies and follow-ups
kept the whole team heading towards progress and made
everything look so simple and achievable. Ipca Nepal team
has been able to greatly improve its image in Nepal and are
being looked with lot of respect and sincerity. The
participation of Ipca Nepal Team in Regional and National
conferences has given us the opportunity to build our
image in Nepal. The participation of our team in Modern
Trends in the Medical Education seminar organized by
Kathmandu Medical College in January ’09 was widely
appreciated by all. Our recent participation in ANEMECON
’09 in April has made the medical fraternity of Nepal stand
up and acknowledge our participation. In both the
seminar’s, ‘Drop your visiting card’ contest was
enthusiastically played by many doctors and we were able
to collect 250 visiting cards of doctors from different places.
The winners of the contest were announced and their
names were displayed on screens, which made them come
to our stall and collect the prizes. The contest made us
register ourselves more than ever and Ipca was being
talked about by everybody.
As Nepal is getting ready to accept new challenges, build
on the lost time, make progress each day and take new
steps to bring in development and innovative challenges.
Ipca Nepal team will be a part of their new acquired
confidence accepting new challenges and making a mark
to ensure that we grow more and more.

introduction Mr. Cutler visited the Artemisia crop site, IBD-
XV extraction facilities, manufacturing block, powder
processing area, RM/PM Warehouse, Finished Goods
Warehouse, Green Technology Lab and Sterile area. Mr. Cutler agreed with Mr. Ashish Bharillya (Officer-
Agriculture) that higher biomass can be obtained with
lesser spacing between plantlets and good quality seeds
should be produced from mass selection technique. Dr.
Jain told Mr. Cutler that Ipca, in collaboration with Jamia
Humdard University, is developing genetically engineered
plants with higher content of artemisinin than the routine
plants and seeds of these plant will be used in commercial
production of the crop. During discussion with Mr. Amit Jain
(Officer-Agriculture), Mr. Cutler suggested that seeds can
be used for a long time if stored below 25°C.
Mr. Cutler visited Ipca, Baroda plantation site together with thMr. J. L. Nagori and Mr. Murli Sarma on 12 May, ‘09.
During discussion with Ms. Alka Dangash, he said that
even in hot climatic conditions crop response (~ 8 feet
height) is really good. Ipca also shares agriculture
experience and facilitation of agriculture by AVT Natural
products, Kerala and M/s Herbochem Lab. Ltd.,
Hyderabad. On his discussion Mr. V. Rawal, he said that
65-70% recovery is good with respect to global status and

CongratulationsYoungster’s Achievements
In honor to my Parents.. This is a feeling of every
successful son/ daughter. And it is a matter of pride for
Mrs.Meenakshi & Mr. Rajesh Thakkar (Sr. Executive –
Finance – Ipca Laboratories), that their only son has
achieved a remarkable milestone at a young age.
Rajeshbhai (as fondly known in Ipca) is strongly supported
by his better half, Mrs. Meenakshi who works as a Manager
in Bank of Baroda. Both had dreamt to give the best to their
son Nilay who also strived hard to do the best and get the
best. With his efforts and parents support and blessing, he
is now studying in University of Missouri Kansas city, USA.
He is currently pursuing M.S. Ph.D., 5-years course with
specialization in Pharmaceutics and drug designing.
Nilay, age 23 has made his parents proud, as he is the
second author of a paper ‘Transporter-targeted Drug
Delivery’ published in an eminent foreign journal Retina
Today, issue : June 2009.
The article is on drug delivery to retina by means of nutrient
transporter.Retina is most important part of the eye. It is
very difficult to administer drugs in this area. Presently,
topical drugs, oral drugs (drugs taken by mouth) and
injectable drugs are available. But it is difficult to
administer drops in eye. Most of it fall out and do not enter
the retina. The article mentions about various nutrient
transporters which can be used to administer the drugs in
the eye. This will enable the drug to reach the target site i.e.
retina and exert its efficacy. Cheers to three great people.

A grade 5 teacher one day asked the children in her
class to make rhymes with their names.
First up was Dan. A very adventurous child.
My name is Dan,
When I grow up to be a man,
I want to go to India and Japan ,
If I can, If I can, If I can.
'Very good' , the teacher said to Dan.
She then asked Sally that it was now her turn. My name is Sally,
When I grow up to be a lady,
I want to have a baby
If I can, if I can, if I can.
'That is good Sally,' the teacher said.
'But maybe one day you will change your mind.' Next up was Glenn.
He was the naughty one in the class.
Here is his rhyme:
My name is Glenn,
When I grow up to be a man,
Never mind India and Japan ,
I 'm gonna help Sally with her plan,
I know I can, I can, I can.
