Islamic Republic of Pakistan

Pakistan, officially the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, is a sovereign country in South Asia. With a

population exceeding 180 million people, it is the sixth most populous country in the world. Located

at the cross roads of the strategically important region of South Asia, Central Asia and the Western

Asia, Pakistan has a 1,046 kilometre (650 miles) coastline along the Arabian sea and the Gulf of Oman in

the South and is bordered by India to the east, Afghanistan to the west and north, Iran to the southwest

and China in the far northeast. It is separated from Tajikistan by Afghanistan narrow Wakhan Corridor in

the north, and also shares a marine border with Oman.

The territory of modern Pakistan was home to several ancient cultures, including the Neolithic Mehrgarh

and the bronze Age Indus Valley Civilization, and has undergone invasions or settlements by Hindu,

Persian, Indo-Greek, lslamic, Turco-Mongil, Afghan and Sikh cultures. The area has been ruled by

numerous empires and dynasties, including the Indian Mauryan Empire, the Persian Achaemenid Empire,

the Arab Umayyad Caliphate, the Mongol Empire, the Mughal Empire, the Durrani Empire, the Sikh Empire

and the British Empire.

The Muslim state that emerged from partition of British India on 14 August 1947 included an eastern wing

comprising mainly the eastern half of Bengal province and parts of Assam. (The name Pakistan is coinage

representing 'Punjab, the Afghan border states, Kashmir, Sindh and Baluchistan'). It was proclaimed an

Islamic republic on 23 March 1956.

Religion

“What has he found who has lost God?

And what has he lost who has found God?”

¯ Ibn 'Ata' Allah Al-Iskandari

Religion which is referred to as a relation of human beings to God or the gods, or to whatever they consider

sacred or, in some cases, their god is merely supernatural.

Islam- Our religion- The religion of Pakistan; a monotheistic religious tradition that developed in the

Middle East in the 7th century C.E. Islam, which means "surrender" or "submission," was founded on the

teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) as an expression of surrender to the will of Allah, the creator

and sustainer of the world. The Quran, the sacred text of Islam, contains the teachings of the Prophet that

were revealed to him from Allah. Essential to Islam is the belief that Allah is the one and true God with no

partner or equal. There are five Pillars, the fundamental practices of Islam. These five practices include a

ritual profession of faith, ritual prayer, the zakat (charity), fasting, and the hajj (a pilgrimage to Mecca).

Many Muslims are characterized by their commitment to praying to Allah five times a day. One of the

defining characteristics of Islam is the primacy of sacred places including Mecca, Medina, and Jerusalem.

Muslims gather at mosques to worship Allah, pray, and read the holy Quran. There is not a sharp

distinction between the religious and secular aspects of life in Islam; all aspects of a Muslim's life are to be

oriented to serving Allah. Islam expanded almost immediately beyond its birth place in the Arabian

Peninsula and now has significant influence almost all over the world.

11

Page 12: Ipex catalogue 2014

On March 22-23, 1940, in Lahore, the Muslim League adopted a resolution to form a separate Muslim

state, Pakistan. The Pakistan idea was first ridiculed and then tenaciously opposed by the

Congress. But it captured the imagination of the Muslims. Pitted against Jinnah were men of the

stature of Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru. And the British government seemed to be intent on maintaining

the political unity of the Indian subcontinent. But Jinnah led his movement with such skill and tenacity that

ultimately both the Congress and the British government had no option but to agree to the partitioning of

India. Pakistan thus emerged as an independent state on 14th August, 1947. Jinnah emerged as the

leader of a renascent Muslim Nation. Events began to move fast.

Jinnah became the first head of the new state i.e. Pakistan. He took oath as the first Governor General on

August 15, 1947. Faced with the serious problems of a young nation, he tackled Pakistan's problems with

authority. He was not regarded as merely the Governor General, he was revered as the father of the

nation. He worked hard until overpowered by age and disease in Karachi. He died on 11th September,

1948 in Karachi.

The Development of Muslim Identity and Two-Nation Theory.

The sense of nationhood developed among the Muslims before the establishment of Pakistan. Their goal was mostly to protect and promote their identity and interests and shape their lives in accord with their

ideals and philosophy of life without being overwhelmed by an unsympathetic majority. They adopted the

strategy to get constitutional safeguards from the British against the cruel majority of Hindus but because of the antagonistic treatment from the rivals they set the goal of a separate state. Islam had central place

to their further developments.

The role of leadership is very important to put nation on the way. A good leadership infuses the qualities of

awareness, consciousness, mobilization, sense of direction, and defense against the adversaries. The Muslims were lucky having such competent leadership. Muhammad Ali Jinnah was a history-making

leader who changed the course of history. He possessed a visionary leadership, commitment to the cause

and political mobilization capacity. He was a charismatic leader in the real sense of the meaning.

Allama Muhammad Iqbal

Muffakir-e-Pakistan

Allama Muhmmad Iqbal, great poet-philosopher and active political leader, was born in Sialkot,

Punjab, in 1877. He is commonly referred to as Allama Iqbal, received his early education in the

traditional maktab. Later, he joined the Sialkot Mission School, from where he passed his

matriculation examination. In 1897, he obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Government College,

Lahore. Two years later, he secured his Masters Degree and was appointed in the Oriental College, Lahore,

as a lecturer of history, philosophy and english. He later proceeded to Europe for higher studies. After

studying in Cambridge, Munich and Heidelberg, Iqbal established a law practice, but concentrated

primarily on writing scholarly works on politics, economics, history, philosophy and religion.

Iqbal was a strong proponent of the political and spiritual revival of Islamic civilisation across the world,

but specifically in South Asia; a series of famous lectures he delivered to this effect were published as The

Reconstruction of Religious Thought in Islam. One of the most prominent leaders of the All India Muslim

League, Iqbal encouraged the creation of a "state in northwestern India for Muslims" in his 1930

presidential address. He encouraged and worked closely with Muhammad Ali Jinnah, and he is known as Muffakir-e-Pakistan ("The Thinker of Pakistan"), Shair-e-Mashriq ("The Poet of the East"), and Hakeem-

ul-Ummat ("The Sage of Ummah"). He is officially recognized as the national poet of Pakistan.

On April 21, 1938, the great Muslim poet-philosopher and champion of the Muslim cause, passed

away. He lies buried next to the Badshahi Mosque in Lahore.

Pakistani culture is the most valuable for Pakistani people, who like to represent their culture

everywhere in the world with pride. Pakistan is very much possessive for its own cultures because of

one land and uncountable cultures. It is the reality that one man shows the culture against one

nation, so keep in mind, we can assess that Pakistani culture is represented by the people of Pakistan.

People are generating the culture and culture is modifying the people. It is the fact that Pakistan having the

culture which is actually compatible with the culture of Pakistan’s ideology as well as the vision and

ultimate goal of Pakistan.

‘Culture’ can be defined in many different ways. Culture may be defined as behavior peculiar to human

beings, together with material objects used. Culture consists of language, ideas, values, attributes,

beliefs, customs, codes, institutions, tools, works and arts , religion, law, morality ,ceremonies and

festivals.

Architecture

The Lahore fort, a landmark built during the Mughal era, is a UNESCO World Heritage Pakistani

architectures and has four recognized periods: Pre-Islamic, Islamic, Colonial and Post-Colonial.

With the beginning of the Indus civilization millennium around the middle of the 3rd millennium BCE,

an advanced urban culture developed for the first time in the region, with large buildings, some of which survive to this day. Mohenjo Daro, Harappa and Kot Diji are among the pre-Islamic settlements that are

now tourist attractions. The rise of Buddhism and the persian and greek influence led to the developent of the Greco-Buddhist style, starting from the 1st century CE.

The high point of this era was reached at the peak of the Ghandara style. An example of buddhist

architecture is the ruins of the buddhist monastery Takht-i-Bhai in Khyber Paktunkhwa. The arrival of

Islam in today’s Pakistan meant a sudden end of Buddhist architecture in the area and a smooth transition

to the predominantly pictureless Islamic architecture. The most important Persian-style building still standing is the tomb of the Sha Rukan-i-Alam in Multan During the Mughal era, design elements of Persian

-Islamic architecture were fused with and often produced playful forms of Hinduistani art. Lahore,

occasional residence of Mughal rulers, exhibits many important buildings from the empire. Most prominent among them are Badshahi Mosque, the Fortress of Lahore with the famous Alamgiri Gate, the

colorful, persain style Wazir Khan Mosque, the Shalimar Garden in Lahore and the Shahjahan Mosque in

Thatta. In the British Colonial period, predominantly functional buildings of the Indo-European representative style developed from a mixture of European and Indian-Islamic omponents. Postcolonial

national identity is expressed in modern structures like the Faisal Mosque, the Minar-e-Pakistan and the

Mazar-e-Quaid

Pakistan is a rapidly developing country and is

one of the Next Eleven, the eleven countries

that, BRICs, have a high potential to become

the world’s largest economies in the 21st century.

The economy is semi-industrialized, with centers of

growth along the Indus River. The diversified

economies of Karachi and Punjab’s urban centers

coexist with less developed areas in other parts of

the country. A 2010 reported by RAD-AID

positioned Pakistan’s economy at 27th largest in

the world by purchasing power and 45th largest in

absolute dollars. It is South Asia‘s second largest

economy, representing about 15% of regional GDP.

A mango orchard in Multan, southern Punjab:

agriculture is the backbone of Pakistan’s

economy.Pakistan is one of the largest producers of natural commodities, and its labor market is the 10th

largest in the world. Around 600,000 Pakistani’s went abroad to work in 2009.The structure of the

Pakistani economy has changed from mainly agricultural to a strong service base. Agricultural now

accounts for only 21.2% of the GDP. Even so, according to the United Nations food and Agricultural

Organization, other important industries include clothing and textiles ( accounting for nearly 60% of

exports) Food processing, chemicals manufacture, iron and steel. There is great potential for tourism in

Pakistan, but it is severely affected by the country’s instability.

Economy

There are four broadly classified product divisions,

namely, Agro and Food, Textile and Clothing,

Minerals and Metals, Engineering and Other

Manufacturing. These product divisions are focused on

providing direction and road map pertaining to entire value chain of each product, further development of

export potential for the existing export products as well

as facilitating development of new markets, whereby broadening the export base of Pakistan.

Agriculture sector plays an important role in the economy of Pakistan, as it accounts for a significant

percentage of the country's GDP (nearly 22%), and employs an even larger percentage of the country's workforce (nearly 45%). Despite such noticeable numbers, it is the considered opinion of experts that

Pakistan still has a huge untapped potential for grabbing a significant share of world agro-food exports.

Textile is the largest sector of our exports, and the single largest employer. To endeavor to move forward rapidly on the export front, it is inevitable that special attention be paid towards this sector.

Page 17: Ipex catalogue 2014

TDAP has tried to provide a focused approach in

attaining this objective. Steady growth in worldwide

demand in Textile & Clothing and rapid changes in

fashion industry have made it unavoidable to equip

this sector with modern techniques and technology

to make it nimble footed enough to identify and

respond to changing tastes worldwide. The Division

keeps a strong liaison with the entire Textile related

Associations on this platform. The Division has been

doing a region-wise market study to see the demand

and future trends in Textile Sector in different

countries and regions.

Pakistan has exceptional export potential of mineral

& metals due to its significant natural resources. The

country is well-endowed with a great number of

minerals and metals which include: Petroleum

Group, Marble, Onyx, Granite and other

Dimensional Stones, Talc (Soap Stone), Rock Salt,

Sea Salt, Gypsum, Coal, Gemstones, Noble Metals,

Chromites, Copper Ore, Iron Ore, Lead-Zinc Ores

etc.

Keeping in view the enormous export potential of

minerals, the Minerals & Metals Division was

established at TDAP to tackle issues pertaining to

entire value chain of minerals & metals and to

broaden the spectrum of exports. The Division is responsible for the following:

• Extensive interactions with internal and external stakeholders

• Developing new exportable products and new exporters

• Addressing region specific challenges

• Identifying all potential minerals and metals available in Pakistan that can generate export revenue

• Identifying aspects of production process with high wastage in the existing resource extraction and

processing activity sequence, prior to export

• Preparing marketing plans for foreign investment, joint venture and technology transfer for

development of minerals and metals.

Engineering & Other Manufacturing Division mainly looks after export promotion of Engineering goods including Electric Fans, Transport Equipments, Other Electrical Machinery, Machinery Specialized, Auto

parts & Accessories, Surgical Instruments, Cutlery, Sports Goods. In addition, Pharmaceuticals, Other

chemicals, Plastic & its products, Furniture & Cement are also covered under the scope of this Division. Thus, the spectrum of manufacturing units range from small to large scale industries spread across the

country.

This division is mandated to facilitate the exporters by providing information regarding potential markets

and products to the stakeholders for the growth of exports from Pakistan. These endeavors succeeded in

maintaining the level of overall exports of engineering goods and arresting the declining trend in exports.

The Engineering division maintains a close liaison with the stakeholders and relevant associations, and regularly organizes seminars and workshops for exchange of information, ideas with the view to create

awareness and also as a capacity building initiative.

Commercial Poultry in Pakistan was established in 1962. It is one of the largest agro based segment of

Pakistan having an investment of more than 564 billions rupees. Poultry Industry of Pakistan is making a

tremendous contribution in bridging the gap between the supply and demand of meat protein. With the

continuous depletion of supply of red meat, poultry is the cheapest available animal protein for our masses

and as such is an effective check upon the spiraling animal protein prices. Therefore we are already

consuming less protein as per required standards. Poultry Industry generates employment and provdes

source of income to more than 1.5 million people of Pakistan.

Statisticals of Pakistan Poultry Industry 2013-14

I would like to place on record my profound thanks to honorable members of Pakistan Poultry Association

for bestowing upon me the honor to be the Chief Organizer of International Poultry Expo 2014. The

experience of the last fifteen years in organizing such gatherings would help us reorganize our priorities

for this event. I will try to incorporate new ideas, while selecting topics for technical sessions and hope to

devise appropriate measures for the Expo accordingly. Other important features during this IPEX are

Exhibition, Souvenir disbursement Cooking Competition and Umra & Lucky draws. The events would

hopefully educate and fascinate the farmers and veterinarians.

On this occasion I would suggest to the poultry scientists and the participants of IPEX, to launch allout

efforts for the eradication of diseases. A cohesive interaction between all the segments of poultry sector

will help to achieve this task. It must be recognized that when we address disease, we are infact aiming at

increased production at minimum cost. The profit and benefits of which are to be reaped by all the

segments, i.e. Breeding, Feed Milling, Processing, Pharmaceuticals, Marketing channels and the benefit of

the growing volumes, efficient production should continue to be passed on to the consumers.

We cordially invite you to the largest ever Poultry Expo, commencing on 25, 26 & 27th September, 2014 at

Lahore Expo Centre. It will be also an opportunity for the International entrepreneurs to get reach in, one

of the developing country of South Asia. This three days Expo, which held annually in September became a

source of selling and purchasing for Producers, Poultry Farmers,

previous exhibitions. This time too, the organizers will focus on the huge participation of Poultry

Entrepreneurs, new Investors, Researchers, Veterinarians, Students and Consumers to provide them a

capable platform where they will be able to find professional guidance and international exposure too.

So once again the PPA takes the initiative to hold IPEX – 2014and offers a junction for global and regional

market players that will lead to high growth and rapid development of Poultry Industry. Therefore, we are

looking forward for your cooperation by getting yourself registered for the conference, to reserve stalls, to

advertise in Souvenir and for the promotion of their products and company through Banners in Expo

Center and its surrounding areas.

At the end, I pray for the success of the International Poultry Expo 2014. I would like to extend my heart

felt gratitude to the devoted volunteers of Poultry Sector, who spent their valuable time to make this event

a great success.
